November 2020 cf. Basler Pop-Preis 2020: Die vier Nominierten stehen fest Preis wird am 19. November vergeben Es war eine Weile ruhig um die höchste Auszeichnung der Nordwestschweizer Popszene, den Basler Pop- Preis. Im November 2018 ist er zum letzten Mal vergeben worden(an Audio Dope), dann hat der RFV Basel zusammen mit der Popmusikszene dem Spitzenförderungspreis ein neues Konzept verpasst und nun wird – trotz oder gerade wegen der Corona-Krise –der Basler Pop-Preis 2020 am 19. November zum elften Mal vergeben – natürlich ohne öffentliche Feier. Geplant ist ein Live-Stream der Verleihung. Der Preis ist neu mit 20 000 CHF statt bisher 15 000 CHF dotiert. Neues Verfahren für die Nominierung Erstmals konnten alle interessierten Musikfans ihre Vorschläge für den oder die Preisträger*in 2020 online einreichen. Über 250 verschiedene Namen von Bands und Musiker*innen aus der Region Basel sind beim RFV eigetroffen; 900 Musikfans haben teilgenommen. Nach der formalen Prüfung der Bands und ihrer Leistungsausweise durch die Geschäftsstelle des RFV Basel hat die fünfköpfige Fachjury nun ihre vier Favoriten aus diesen Vorschlägen ermittelt. Entscheidend für die Punktevergabe ist unter anderem der Leistungsausweis der Bands der letzten 24 Monate. His approach draws on an alternate history and stems from two thoughts: Christianity was imposed upon American slaves, just as it was imposed in Norway, and black metal in the '90s grew as a rebellion to monotheism. What would have happened if American slaves had rebelled in the same way? Or put bluntly: What would satanic spirituals sound like? First album Devil Is Fine was released globally in February 2017. How do you generally start writing a song? Do you have an instrument that you usually reach for first? It varies from guitar to computer to piano or just something sung. It doesn’t really matter. Sometimes it’s a guitar lick or something vocal or just a sensory thing. When you’re trying to create something you’re kind of desperate, and it’s always that hunt for something that’s good. It’s like when you drink and you try to be happy but sometimes you drink and you just get sadder than you already are. It’s about hunting down something good, something worth hunting. What about lyrically? Are you writing ideas down constantly, or do you only write when there’s a song to write to? I do write stuff into my phone, and those are mostly snippets that I might find interesting three months later—I might elaborate on them then. But on a day-to-day basis, it’s just short ideas that I try to make sense of. Have you ever experienced writer’s block? Not really. There have been times when I tried to make something specific and it ended up being something wholly different, but not writer’s block, per se.

It is a complex amplification of heavy metal that has garnered increased attention during the last two decades due to some bands becoming more popular and accessible than anticipated for the styles it comprises. Although women have a small but steady presence in heavy metal, this number shrinks when applied to extreme metal - a subculture which has typically been coded as a masculine domain (Purcell 2003; Kahn-Harris 2007; Walser 1993; Weinstein 1991). For women, participating in such an overwhelmingly male-coded environment can incur sexism, marginalization, and misogyny.
