WE'LL TALK ABOUT THIS MORE IN YOUR PRE-SHOOT CONSULTATION, BUT A GREAT OUTFIT HAS FOUNDATIONS, SO MAKE SURE YOU INVEST IN WELL FITTING UNDERWEAR. I'VE INCLUDED A LIST OF MY FAVOURITE BRANDS IN THIS PDF FOR YOU. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND A BRA FITTING TO MAKE SURE YOU PURCHASE THE CORRECT SIZE AND STYLE FOR YOUR SHAPE. UNDERWIRED BRAS WILL GIVE YOU THE BEST SHAPE, BUT THEY ARE NOT A REQUIREMENT. IF YOU'RE A BRALET OR NO BRA KIND OF PERSON, YOU DO YOU! WHILST IT MAY BE TEMPTING TO OPT FOR SKIMPY KNICKERS, BIGGER KNICKERS CAN BE JUST AS SEXY IN THE RIGHT FABRICS. ALSO, SIZE UP FOR A LITTLE EXTRA COMFORT. NO ONE WILL SEE THE SIZE LABEL. IF YOU DECIDE TO WEAR A CORSET, BUY IT IN ADVANCE SO YOU CAN GET ACCUSTOMED TO ITS RESTRICTIVENESS BEFORE THE SHOOT. FOR YOUR FIRST CORSET, I RECOMMEND GOING NO MORE THAN 4 INCHES SMALLER THAN YOUR NATURAL WAIST. FOR LESS RESTRICTIVE SHAPEWEAR - AND MORE COMFORTABLE POSING - TRY A CORSELETTE OR BASQUE. THE STRETCHY FABRIC WILL PULL YOU IN WITHOUT LIMITING MOVEMENT. STOCKINGS TEND TO BE MORE FLATTERING ON THE THIGHS THAN HOLD UPS. BRING A COUPLE OF PAIRS WITH YOU IN CASE OF LADDERS. HIGH HEELS ELONGATE THE LEGS AND IMPROVE POSTURE. YOU DON’T HAVE TO BE ABLE TO WALK IN THEM, SO THE HIGHER THE BETTER! DRESSING GOWNS OR KIMONOS ARE A GREAT ADDITION TO ANY OUTFIT AND CAN HIDE TUMMIES AND ARMS. THEY ARE ALSO PERFECT FOR KEEPING COVERED IN THE STUDIO BEFORE AND AFTER YOUR SHOOT. 6 | TIGZ RICE | WWW.TIGZRICE.COM MISS VICTORY VIOLET WWW.TIGZRICE.COM | TIGZ RICE | 7 LEAH DEBRINCAT 8 | TIGZ RICE | WWW.TIGZRICE.COM PROPS AND JEWELLERY ADD THE PERFECT FINISHING TOUCHES TO YOUR OUTFIT THE ESSENCE OF A GOOD SHOOT IS IN THE DETAILS, SO BRING YOUR COSTUME JEWELLERY. DIAMANTES WILL SPARKLE WELL UNDER STUDIO LIGHTS AND THE STONES ARE RELATIVELY CHEAP, SO YOU CAN FIND SOME STATEMENT PIECES FOR VERY REASONABLE PRICES. THE INTERNET IS A GREAT PLACE TO START FOR COSTUME JEWELLERY, PARICULARLY EBAY. YOU COULD ALSO LOOK IN THE JEWELLERY SECTION OF YOUR LOCAL CHARITY SHOPS AND CHECK OUT MARKETS. PROPS ARE GREAT FOR IDLE HANDS AND WILL HELP YOU POSE BETTER IF YOU’RE FEELING A LITTLE AWKWARD IN FRONT OF THE CAMERA. FIND SOMETHING INSPIRED BY YOUR OUTFIT TO BRING WITH YOU. IT COULD BE A VINTAGE TELEPHONE, FLOWERS, A WHIP, FEATHER FANS... IF YOU ARE PLANNING TO GET RID OF ANY BODY HAIR VIA WAXING OR HANNAH THREADING, DO THIS AT LEAST 24 HOURS BEFORE YOUR SHOOT TO ALLOW FOR ANY SWELLING OR REDNESS TO GO DOWN. ROOTS WILL SHOW IN YOUR PHOTOGRAPHS, SO IF YOU DYE YOU HAIR, YOU MAY WANT TO COINCIDE YOUR NEXT SALON VISIT WITH THE SHOOT. ITS MUCH EASIER TO STYLE HAIR WHEN IT IS FULLY DRY, CLEAN AND PRODUCT FREE. WASH AND DRY IT FULLY THE NIGHT BEFORE. YOUR HAIR WILL BE SET FOR YOU, HOWEVER IF YOU PREFER TO SET YOUR OWN, PLEASE FEEL FREE TO DO SO. NOURISHED SKIN IS HEALTHY SKIN. TREAT YOURSELF TO A FACE MASK THE NIGHT BEFORE & DRINK THE RECOMMENDED 2 LITRES OF WATER PER DAY TO KEEP HYDRATED. ITS IMPORTANT THAT YOU ARRIVE TO THE STUDIO FEELING YOUR BEST, SO PLAN AN EARLY NIGHT BEFORE YOUR SHOOT AND SET YOUR ALARM CLOCK WITH PLENTY OF TIME TO GET READY. HANGOVERS AND FLASHING LIGHTS NEVER GO WELL TOGETHER, SO ITS A GOOD IDEA TO ABSTAIN FROM ALCOHOL PRIOR TO YOUR SHOOT. IT WILL ALSO STOP YOU LOOKING RED AND PUFFY IN PHOTOS. APPLY NAIL VARNISH AS CLOSE TO SHOOTING AS POSSIBLE, TO MAKE SURE IT DOESN’T CHIP, OR INVEST IN GELS, WHICH LAST LONGER. ACRYLIC NAILS SHOULD BE FRESHLY FILLED. WHILST IT MAY BE TEMPTING TO SELF TAN BEFORE YOUR SHOOT, YOU WILL APPEAR ORANGE ON CAMERA. I PERSONALLY RECOMMEND DITCHING THE FAKE TAN AND ROCKING BARE SKIN. 12 | TIGZ RICE | WWW.TIGZRICE.COM HANNAH WWW.TIGZRICE.COM | TIGZ RICE | 13 GABRIELA SERAN 14 | TIGZ RICE | WWW.TIGZRICE.COM ON THE DAY TIPS TO HELP YOUR SHOOT RUN AS SMOOTHLY AS POSSIBLE IT IS REALLY IMPORTANT TO SNACK BEFORE AND DURING YOUR SHOOT TO MAINTAIN ENERGY LEVELS. REMEMBER TO KEEP FULLY HYDRATED IN FRONT OF THE LIGHTS ALSO, WHICH CAN GET QUITE WARM. PLEASE LEAVE PLENTY OF TIME TO GET TO YOUR SHOOT, SO YOU DON’T FEEL STRESSED IF SOMETHING SLOWS DOWN YOUR JOURNEY. YOU HAVE MY PHONE NUMBER IF THERE ARE ANY PROBLEMS. WEAR LOOSE FITTING CLOTHING TO YOUR SHOOT, WHICH WILL PREVENT LINES AND INDENTATIONS ON THE SKIN. ONCE YOU ARRIVE AT THE STUDIO, I RECOMMEND UNDRESSING AND SLIPPING INTO YOUR DRESSING GOWN WHILST HAVING HAIR AND MAKE UP DONE. TAKING PART IN A PHOTO SHOOT IS A PHYSICAL PROCESS - YOU’LL BE PUSHING YOUR BODY TO ACHIEVE PIN UP PERFECTION. BEFORE THE SHOOT BEGINS, TAKE A FEW MINUTES TO GIVE YOUR MUSCLES A REALLY GOOD STRETCH - PARTICULARLY THE TORSO, HIPS AND THIGHS. THE FIRST PART OF YOUR SESSION WILL BE SPENT IN HAIR AND MAKE UP. PLEASE LET YOUR MAKE UP ARTIST KNOW IF YOU HAVE ANY SKIN ALLERGIES, SO THEY CAN SELECT PRODUCTS ACCORDINGLY. THE REMAINING SESSION TIME WILL BE SPENT SHOOTING WITH ME. I WILL PERSONALLY GUIDE YOU THROUGH YOUR PHOTO SHOOT WITH POSING ADVICE AND LOTS OF TIPS AND TRICKS TO MAKE YOU LOOK AND FEEL FABULOUS. IF AT ANY TIME YOU FEEL UNCOMFORTABLE AND WANT TO STOP, I WILL PUT THE CAMERA DOWN UNTIL YOU CONFIRM YOU ARE READY TO SHOOT AGAIN. PERFORMED IDENTITIES: HEAVY METAL MUSICIANS BETWEEN 1984 AND 1991 Bradley C. Klypchak A Dissertation Submitted to the Graduate College of Bowling Green State University in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY May 2007 Committee: Dr. Jeffrey A. Brown, Advisor Dr. John Makay Graduate Faculty Representative Dr. Ron E. Shields Dr. Don McQuarie © 2007 Bradley C. Klypchak All Rights Reserved iii ABSTRACT Dr. Jeffrey A. Brown, Advisor Between 1984 and 1991, heavy metal became one of the most publicly popular and commercially successful rock music subgenres. The focus of this dissertation is to explore the following research questions: How did the subculture of heavy metal music between 1984 and 1991 evolve and what meanings can be derived from this ongoing process? How did the contextual circumstances surrounding heavy metal music during this period impact the performative choices exhibited by artists, and from a position of retrospection, what lasting significance does this particular era of heavy metal merit today? A textual analysis of metal- related materials fostered the development of themes relating to the selective choices made and performances enacted by metal artists. These themes were then considered in terms of gender, sexuality, race, and age constructions as well as the ongoing negotiations of the metal artist within multiple performative realms. Occurring at the juncture of art and commerce, heavy metal music is a purposeful construction. Metal musicians made performative choices for serving particular aims, be it fame, wealth, or art. These same individuals worked within a greater system of influence. Metal bands were the contracted employees of record labels whose own corporate aims needed to be recognized.

Buyers said they welcomed a shift from overt hard-edged sexiness to something softer and more romantic, with lots of floral prints and artistic touches. Collections by Dolce & Gabbana, Jil Sander, 6267, Marni, Fendi, Prada and Versace won wide praise, while ethnic-themed prints, transparency and full skirts of all lengths were cited among key trends.
