11th December 2014 at 4:00pm – Cinema Trevi Roma, vicolo del Puttarello, 25

Entrance is free until seat exhaustion

The unemployment issue was very heavy and felt also in the Sixties. In Italy, even though the economic boom was taking place, according to statistics, there were around 2 million unemployed without counting women (not included in official statistics). The great cinema of the past leads us to a reflection on the contemporary society of the XVIII Tertio Millennio Film Fest that devotes a special event to the projection of From a Roman Balcony. The film directed by Mauro Bolognini and played by Jean Sorel, Lea Massari, Jeanne Valérie, , Paolo Stoppa, Rick Battaglia and Valeria Ciangottini, will be projected (with free entrance until seat exhaustion) Thursday 11th December at 4:00pm in the Cinema Trevi di Roma. It will be the starting point of the event conceived and conducted by journalist Dina d’Isa. The debate will move from the social denunciation of the 60’s to linger on current themes like corruption, food fraud, unemployment and prostitution of youngsters via telephone.

Written by with , From a Roman Balcony tells the story of the young unemployed, Davide Saraceno who, for one whole day looks for a job in order to support his family. He finds everything but a job. During the course of his day the young man encounters a peer, a young lady, like him unemployed and thus forced to make some money through being a call girl. In addition to unemployment, here is the second social issue: prostitution connected with the telephone; theme which precedes in less suspect times a reality which today is all encompassing. Davide in his search for a job is then employed as a truck driver for an oil industry that makes oil from soap fat. The creator of this successful oil has a lover whom, probably disgusted by his professional immorality, gives herself to Davide who is young, poor and innocent. This is the third social issue, a food fraud against which law seems powerless.
