While the first chartered flight may have landed in Bahrain in 1927, the first scheduled commercial flight only arrived in Bahrain in 1932, en-route from London to Delhi, carrying 24 passengers and establishing Bahrain as the Gulf’s first international airport.

By 1937 regular service commenced using Short’s Empire seaplanes where the “landing strip” was a stretch of water with the passenger terminal located nearby on dry land.

With the new US$ 100 million terminal inaugurated in 1994, Bahrain International Airport moved to an expanded handling capacity of 9 million passengers a year. The airport continues its successful journey of success and growth, and is today well on its way to becoming one of finest airports in the world. cover6Bahrain International Airport

Strategic Location Bahrain is uniquely located at the heart of the Gulf. The Kingdom’s reputation for cultural neutrality and distinguished relations with its neighbours provides a neutral platform for businesses to flourish. The other advantage being that Bahrain has the shortest travel time between its seaport, airport, and the logistics processing zone of anywhere in the Gulf, enabling companies to serve other markets in the Middle East with great ease and efficiency.

Preferred Aviation Hub For over 60 years Bahrain International Airport has been the ideal hub for operations in the fast-growing Gulf and Middle East & North Africa (MENA) markets. It has the widest range and highest frequency of regional services with connections to major international destinations in Europe, Asia, Africa, the Far East and Australasia.
