INSTRUCTIONS

X-RAY VISION To start take your three balls and the box in your magic box set. Ask someone to choose one of the balls without telling you which one and then to place their chosen ball inside the box, and to put a lid on it. Your eyes should be closed. You then say you are going to guess the colour chosen. Place the closed box behind your back and repeat the same trick as in “A Magical Guess”. Bring the fully closed box back to the audience and tell them what colour the ball is.

A BALL FROM NOWHERE Make a ball appear from nowhere! Place a ball in your hand with your back towards the audience. Draw an imaginary ball into the air with the forefinger of your left hand; with the fingers of the right hand extended and the back of the hand towards the audience, pretend that you catch the imaginary ball. Actually what you do is to put the hand in first, over the hidden ball. Say the words “Abracadabra”! Open your hand and show the audience that the imaginary ball is now real.

CARDWARP Start by placing a card, flat on the back of your palm. You can cause the card to warp in front of your audience’s eyes! Now, rub your hands together, making sure you rub the back of your hands too. You are secretly trying to generate heat as much as possible. Now before you place the card on top of your hand you need to moisten the back of your hand with a bit of saliva. Pretend to be wiping your nose with the back of your hand, while licking it in the process. The warmth from your hand and the saliva will cause the card to warp naturally! The warmer and wetter the faster the warping.

ACE SHAKER Someone from the audience signs a card and makes their card appear in between two aces. To start, give a member of the audience two red aces and tell them to hold them. Fan out the deck and tell them to touch a card. Square the deck up leaving their card stuck out to be signed and shown. Secretly put the card hidden into “palm position” when you square up the deck so you can easily palm the card when you want to. It must stick out of the lower corner of the pack, meeting your inner thumb. Let them sign the card and then hand them the deck, secretly palming their card. After they are convinced that the card is lost within the deck, ask for the two aces and sandwich the face down palmed card between the aces, showing only the aces face up. Tell them to hold the deck openly and start to shake the aces directly over the pack. Tell them to watch their card rise from the deck into the two aces.

MAGIC CARDS Choose a small amount of cards you feel comfortable holding. Hold the edge of the pack with your fingers and use your thumb to peel the top card. Keep the back of your palm faced towards the audience. Continue using your thumb to move the card up to the audience’s view; held between the thumb and forefinger. At the same time as you are pulling out the card, your hand should be pushed forward slightly, as if the card has been grabbed from thin air. Continue to pull cards from the air in this manner, throwing up each card to the audience before producing the next card.

THE THREE MUSKETEERS Remove the four Jacks from your deck of cards and place one of the Jacks face down on the top of the pack. Start the trick by presenting the other three Jacks as the three Musketeers and stating they must always be together. Now ask someone in the audience to place a Jack on top of the pack and one Jack anywhere in the middle and the last Jack on the bottom of the pack. Get the audience member to cut the pack and put the bottom half of the top and bottom jacks together with previously placed Jack. The cards are then turned face up from the top of the pack, eventually showing the three Jacks together near the centre to the audience’s amazement.

TOE-TALLY MAGIC Take a large towel then take off your shoes. Next, fold the towel at the top over your hands so when held against yourself at chest height only your ankles can be seen. Slowly lower your towel so you can’t see your feet. Lift the towel up to show both feet whilst keeping both feet together. Now lower the towel and bend one of your legs 90 degrees. Lift the towel up again and it will miraculously seem that one of your legs have disappeared! THE SECRET NUMBER To start you will need one deck of cards. Give the cards to a member of the audience and have the member fan out the cards, they should select a card but keep it in the pack. Now have them count over from the RIGHT to the selected card. This will form their secret number. Have them close the pack and hand it back to you. Move 4 cards at a time from the bottom of the pack. Give the cards to another member of the audience. Have the first member tell the second what the secret number was. Have the second member move cards one at a time from the bottom to the top counting until the secret number is reached. Take the cards back and pretend you are shuffling them, but just for show. Give the cards back to the second member and tell him to take the top card and put it on the bottom. He should then take the next top card and put it on the table. Take the next top card after that and put it on the bottom pile. Tell him to continue alternating this way until there is only one card left, which should be the selected card.

INVISIBLE MAGIC CHICKEN Tie a thin piece of thread (approximately 38cm long) around the middle of the egg, right in the middle where the halves meet. Take the piece of cloth and have an adult sew the untied end of thread to the middle of the cloth. Make sure that the colour of the thread matches the piece of cloth provided! Hold the cloth with both hands, one hand on each top corner. The egg should now hang down behind the cloth and out of sight. Wrap the egg inside your piece of cloth and then into the compartment at the bottom of the hat. Show the audience the empty hat and place it on a table. Carefully open the flap by tilting the hat on its side. Pull out the piece of cloth. Let the egg hang down so that it stays inside your hat while you pull the cloth out. Show the empty piece of cloth.

MAGIC SPOON BENDING Firstly you will need a spoon. Using both hands hold the spoon and gently press the round part of the spoon on to the top of a flat surface. One hand should be holding the handle of the spoon so that it is completely covered. Slowly let the handle slide through your hands until it cannot slide through your hand any further. This creates the illusion that your spoon is being bent.

COIN CASCADE For this trick you will need your hat and some spare coins. Place the coins in the secret compartment in the bottom of the hat. Do this quietly and tilt the hat towards your audience. Tap on the brim with your and say abracadabra! Turn the hat over and pour out the coins inside.

MAGIC ROPE Tie a small piece of rope loosely around the centre of a longer piece of rope. Next, tie the two ends of the long piece of rope to the two ends of the short piece of rope so that it looks like two long pieces of rope knotted together in the middle. Pick up the knotted ropes and explain how there are two ways to make these short ropes into one long rope. The first is untying the ends (undo the real knotted ends of the long rope). At the same time, say how that is going to leave a knot in the middle! Wind the rope around your hand up to the shorter piece in the middle, hold it and push it along the length so that it slips off the end of the rope. Now reach into your pocket leaving a little bit of rope hanging out. Take your magic wand, wave it over your pocket and shout abracadabra. Take it out to reveal how the rope is magically in one long piece.

THE FRENCH DROP If you want to look like a professional you could vanish the ball in your hands using a technique called ‘The French Drop’. Grasp the ball between the fingers and thumb of your left hand. With your right hand stretched out as if you are going to grab the ball. Your right thumb goes behind the ball and your right fingers begin to curl around it. When the ball is covered, you secretly let the ball drop down into your left hand. Shut your right hand into an unfastened fist and hold it up as your left hand (secretly hiding the ball), falls down to your left side. It is crucial to draw all attention onto your right hand just as if the ball was there. You can now steadily open your hand to show that the ball has disappeared! As you make it disappear you can slowly put your left hand into your pants pocket and drop the ball behind. Make sure to go over this move before trying it on your helpers. You’ll find that staring at yourself in a mirror will undoubtedly help you to get all the angles right!

BEND RUBBER WAND Show the audience your magic wand, telling them that it is made of strong plastic. Announce that you going to turn your wand to jelly! Hold it loosely at the bottom between your thumb and first finger. Keeping your wrist loose at all times, make an up and down motion. This creates the illusion that your wand really is as wobbly as jelly! FLIPPING FANTASTIC Take a piece of paper and draw a large arrow on it with a marker. Next you will need a drinking glass. Ask someone if they can turn the arrow around the other way without turning or flipping the piece of paper. However hard they try they won’t be able to. Now it’s your turn to magically flip the arrow. Pour some water into the drinking glass and hold the piece of paper behind it and Ta-Dah! The arrow has now flipped around.

THE MAGIC THIMBLES With the back of your right hand facing the audience, place a thimble on each of your fingers. Make the thimble vanish off your first finger by trapping it at the base of your thumb and little finger. Extend the first finger again, which is now missing the thimble. Repeat this leaving three thimbles on your fingers and show the audience. Hide your third finger again and put the thimble from your right hand onto the second finger at the base of your thumb. Bring your left hand in again and put the hidden thimble on your left hand and second finger. Hide the last thimble that you have in your right hand, by making a fist, and put it on the little finger of your left hand. This trick takes practice!

THE MAGIC BALL Place a ball on a cloth covered table. Wave your magic wand over it. Suddenly, the ball starts rolling across the table until it falls on the floor. Before starting your trick, tie one of the plastic rings from your kit to a thread 20” in length. Next, hide the under the table cloth. Be sure to leave the end of the string hanging down below the table cloth, easily in reach. Place one of the plastic balls on top of the hidden ring and secretly pull the end of the thread. The ring will pull the ball with it.

THE HEAVIEST BALL IN THE WORLD You are going to convince someone with this trick that a plastic ball is so heavy that their foot will not be able to lift it. First, stand someone against a wall so that their right side and right foot are touching the wall. Now balance the ball on his left foot. Ask them if they can lift their left foot.

CUP TRICK Place the three cups on the table where each one is alternating facing up and down. Tell your audience you are able to put the three cups all bottoms-up in three movements, turning two cups upside down each move. First move: turn cups 2 and 3 Second move: turn cups 1 and 3 Third move: turn cups 2 and 3 The cups should all be bottoms up. Set the cups again and allow a member of your audience to try themselves.

BLACK OR RED Take the deck of cards and separate them by black cards and red cards. Now you will have two smaller decks. Separate the decks and lay them face down on a flat surface in front of your audience. Have a person in the audience choose 1 card from each pile, memorise them and put each card in opposite piles. Now have them shuffle each deck separately. Now, look through the decks and find the 2 cards that does not match the colour of the cards.

CARD TRANSPORTER Make a card disappear and then re-appear! The secret is to place the “empty hat” card in the trick folder and make it disappear. Then on the other side place the rabbit and the hat card facing the audience. Close the booklet and secretly turn it around 180 degrees. When you open it again, the rabbit is gone!

PINS AND RINGS You will need a ring from your kit and two safety pins. Ask an adult if they have two safety pins that you can borrow. Open one of the safety pins and secure the ring inside. Take the safety pin with the ring on it in your left hand. Hold it between your first finger and thumb, around the “eye” of the pin. The ring should be in the part where the safety pin closed. Call this safety pin ‘1’. Take another safety pin ‘2’ in your right hand holding it by the part where it opens and closes (the “eye”). Bring both hands near each other and place the safety pins together. Start rubbing them together as if you are trying to make the ring jump from one pin to the other. In fact, you are really switching the pins around. Keep your hands together for a moment, move them a little and then slowly separate them. It will appear as if the ring has gone from one safety pin to the other.

PIN THE HANDKERCHIEF Fold the piece of cloth in half with the folded edge towards you. Insert the point of a safety pin through both thicknesses of cloth, approximately 0.5 inches from the folded edge and then back through a little further than half an inch. Now roll and turn the pin to the right four times. Press down above the pin at the spot with your left hand. Then pull the pin up firmly. It should magically come up out of the fabric without tearing the cloth! DISAPPEARING RING Fold the rope in half and pass one of the plastic rings onto it. Then pass the loop over the two ends of the rope and pull. Now you have a ring tied into the rope. Pass the other three rings through the end of the rope and it will seem as if the three rings cannot escape. Give it to the audience to double check it. Now cover the rings with the piece of cloth. Under the fabric untie the knot that you tied and slip the rings off the rope. Put the first one back in its place. Remove the cloth and the audience will be amazed that you got the rings off the rope! Speed is the key to this trick.

THE ESCAPING RING Give someone the rope and a ring to examine. Tell them to thread the ring onto the rope and then hold one end in each hand. They can lower the middle of the rope over the side of a table. Make sure the audience cannot see what you are doing. But warn your volunteer not to let go of the rope. What they don’t know is that you have a duplicate ring in your hand. Put your hand under the table and pull the middle of the rope through the ring then push it back up to the top of the ring. This ties the ring to the rope. Announce that the trick is done. Conceal the original ring in your hand and slide both hands out of the ends of the rope and ask them to lift the rope up. They will let go of the ends and find the ring knotted on the rope. As they do this, slide your hands to the very ends of the rope and ask them to take hold of the rope again. They can take hold inside your hands. Lift the rope up and over the table to reveal the spare ring as you do and untie the knot.

ELASTIC TRICKERY Place an elastic band on your finger. Take the end hanging down and stretch it around the middle finger of your left hand, then put it back over the forefinger again. With your right pointer finger and thumb, hold the top of your left pointer finger and bend your left middle finger. However tightly you may be holding your finger, the elastic band will go through from one hand to the other.

MULTIPLYING BALL You will need 2 full plastic balls and a half ball. In one hand hide one of the full balls so no-one can see it. In the other hand, place the half ball over the full ball so it looks like a normal ball. You can use two fingers to take the full ball from outside the half ball. At the same time, move the normal ball between your fingers. You can do this again with the half ball and now the audience will think that you have three balls in your hand!

THE DISAPPEARING CUP TRICK Put a secret elastic band around the top of a cup. Put the piece of fabric on the tips of your right hand fingers and put the cup upside down on your fingers. Pull the elastic band off the cup, so that it is now on your fingers. Put your left hand palm on the bottom of the cup and turn everything over. The cup falls in the left hand while the fabric covers the fingers of your right hand, which are inside the cup and turn everything over. The cup can now be held comfortably in your half closed left fist as it comes out from under the fabric. The rubber band will make it look as though you are holding the cup with your right hand. Take out your wand, having dumped the cup. Tap your right hand and pull away the fabric. The cup has disappeared!

MAGIC RING AND WAND You will need two rings and your wand. To start you need to make a circle with your left hand and hide the ring between your thumb and other fingers so the audience won’t be able to see it. Take your wand and put it through the hole you made with your left hand and the secret hidden ring. Then take the other ring and try to push it through the wand between your pointer and middle finger. Pull the wand quickly to expose the hidden ring and make it seem like you pushed the other ring through the wand. At the same time you must hide the ring you showed the audience, in your left hand the same way you did with the hidden ring in the beginning of the trick.

THE DISAPPEARING KNOT You will need a piece of rope and a piece of fabric. In front of the audience tie what looks like a knot in the rope, but in fact the knot will be able to disappearwhen the ends are pulled on. You now pull the ends of the rope a little so it looks as if the knot is tightening and ask some-one from the audience to put the piece of fabric over the knot in the rope. Say abracadabra and tug on both ends of the rope a few times so that the pretend knot falls out. Now take the piece of fabric off and the knot will have magically disappeared! TOSS UP VANISH Do a little manipulation with playing cards! You need a single playing card. Hold the card in between your forefinger and second finger. Shift your body so that your hand is facing the audience. Bring your hand down to your waist level and then back up to your eye level, making a continuous motion as if you are tossing the card in the air. As your hand comes down to your side, curl your first two fingers and capture the card between your thumb and palm. Now it appears like the card has vanished.

MAGIC THIRD COIN You are going to need two large coins for this trick! Hold the two large coins together between your index fingers. Rub the coins up and down quickly and watch what happens. It looks like a third coin magically appears between the other two coins.

THE TRICK RING You can use your magic rings to put on a show for the audience. You can use your one trick ring to keep putting it on and taking if off the other rings. The audience will think that you are pushing the rings through each other.

TELL YOU YOUR AGE Ask someone to give you the number of the month they were born (June would be 6). Make sure that this person is good at maths. Have the person multiply the number by 2 and then add 5 to it. Then multiply it by SO and then finally add how old they are to the number they got after they multiplied it by 50. Ask them to tell you that number and if you subtract 250 from it you will give the month they were born and how old they are. For example, if the number is 1021, 10 means they were born in October and 21 means that they were 21 years old!

DISAPPEARING BALL Tie a piece of string around the middle of the ball where the two pieces attach and tie the other side of the string to your pointer finger. Bring your other hand by your hand with the ball and quickly move the ball from in front of your palm to behind your palm. The ball will disappear.

THE DISAPPEARING EGG This is the same trick but using an egg.

WHERE’S THE DIE GONE? You will need 3 of the plastic ball halves and a die. You put the 3 halves on the table and ask an audience member to place the die under one of the halves when you turn around. Turn around and close your eyes and turn back round. Since your eyes have been closed the half with the die under it will be a little bit lighter and you will be able to spot it every time. Since the audience have had their eyes open the entire time, they will not be able to spot it!

THE DISAPPEARING THIMBLE Place a thimble on your finger of your right hand and point towards the left. Make a fist with the rest of your fingers in your right hand. Put your left hand in front of your right quickly and while you do this bend your pointer finger and take the thimble off with your middle finger and palm, allowing it to rest there and look as if the thimble has disappeared.

BALANCING A CUP You will need a plastic cup, a small pom pom and your piece of fabric. To prepare, you will want to put a small pom pom on a certain part of the table and lay the piece of fabric over it. In front of the audience ask a volunteer to come up and try to balance the cup on its edge. He will not be able to do it. You can then tell the audience it is easy and place the cup where the pom pom was underneath the piece of fabric and it will give the illusion that it is standing on its edge.

THE DREAM CARD Ask a member of the audience to help. Tell them that you have been dreaming last night and you saw an image of a card and they will help you find it physically. Ask them to thumb through the deck facing you and when you see the card you will remove it. As he is thumbing through, remember the number of the first card and suit of the second card (e.g. ace and diamond) and when you see that card remove it without letting them see. Tell them to gather up the cards and deal in to one pile until they are satisfied. Tell them to deal this pile into two even sets, one at a time as if dealing for a game. The last card they put down is the number card. The card on top of the other pile is the suit card.

MAGIC SHAKER Show your audience the ace of spades on top of your deck of cards. Now place the card in the centre of the deck, magically shake your hand and the ace of spades will return to the top. To perform this trick you will need to take any card and place it on top of the ace of spades on the top of your deck of cards. The ace of spades is now the second card from the top. Use the pad of your small finger to hold a break between the top two cards as one and show the audience. They will think you are only holding the ace of spades. Place both cards and push it into the centre of the deck. Give the deck a real shake and reveal the ace of spades magically at the top. SPRINGING CARDS Hold the deck in your right hand and bend the cards so that they bow into your hand. Let them slide and spring off your thumb. Your hand will go from the shape of a “C” to the shape of a swan by the time you are done. Use your small finger of your left hand as a stopper. Your left hand will look like you are waving to someone but the small finger will be pointing straight towards the cards.

THE DISAPPEARING DIE Put a die on top of your closed left fist ,with your thumb remaining on the outside of the fist. Now pretend to take the die with your right hand in the fist but in reality you let it fall to the left fist by opening it a bit. With two fingers of your left hand take the magic wand from your pocket and at the same time hide the die in the pocket. Tap your right fist with the wand and say abracadabra! Open your fists and show both hands are empty. The die has disappeared!

FLYING DIE DOTS Take your die and hold it between your finger and thumb. Have the number 5 facing front and the number 1 under your finger. Quickly roll the die forward between your finger and thumb, the number 1 will be on the front. Combine this with quick up and down movements of the hand and it will appear like four of the dots have flown off the die.

COIN ON FINGER Take any card from a deck from your magic box and a small coin. Give the card and the coin to someone in the audience and have them take a look at them carefully, making sure there is nothing strange about them. Now bet with someone that you will be able to put the card on your index finger with the coin on top of it and that with just one flick, the card will fly away without touching the coin and the coin will remain on your finger. You have to give a flick to the card on a corner and never in the centre. Give the card and coin to a member of the audience so that he can try to do it. It will be impossible!

MAKE A CARD DISAPPEAR Place a card inside your magic trick book. Close the book and shout the magic words abracadabra! Show that the playing card has vanished!

NOSE BREAK Announce to the audience that you are going to break your nose without feeling any pain. Cup your hands like you are praying with your thumb pointing inwards towards your mouth. Reach over to your nose and pretend you are trying to find the bones. Your thumbs and mouth should be hidden from your audience, reach into your mouth with your thumbs and scrape your thumbnails against your teeth. This will make a bone breaking sound and will make them think you have broken your nose. Squint your eyes and pretend it hurts.

WHERE’S THE CARD? You will need a 10 of spades, a 10 of hearts and a 10 of spades with the 10 of hearts on the other side, a plastic cup and magic handkerchief. To starts this trick, hide the ordinary 10 of hearts under the table or in another hiding place. In front of the audience take the other 2 cards and put them in the plastic cup and cover the cup with the handkerchief. Take the double sided card out but only show the spades side. Exchange this card for 10 of hearts that you have previously hidden. You can now take the handkerchief off and show the card that was under the table. The audience will be surprised when you show them a 10 of hearts!

THE NUMBER CARD TRICK To start this trick you will need to make sure you take all the lO’s, Jacks, Queens and Kings out of the deck. Aces will be 1. Have some-one in the audience shuffle the cards. Then take a group of cards in your hand, spread them out so they look like a fan and ask the person from the audience to pick a card and them put it back in the deck. Have them multiply that number by 2, then add 5 to it, then multiply that number by 5. Ask them to remember that number. Now have them pick another card from the deck and add that number to the one they were already remembering. They can now tell you the final number. Subtract 25 from the number they just told you and it will be a two digit number. For example 14, this will show the 2 cards they picked; they would have picked an Ace and a 4.

BOTTOM CARD TRICK Hold the deck in your left hand and put your right fingers on top, thumb on bottom. Your right fingers begin to slide cards back, one by one, and ask a member of the audience to say stop at any time. When they say stop, use your right hand to pull off the cards that were moved. At the same time, your left thumb presses on the bottom card. As you slide the top cards away from the deck, the bottom card will come with them. Hold your right hand up so the audience can see the bottom card of the group but you can’t. Now announce the card that was on the bottom! THE MIRROR To start you need to put the deck of cards in order so the cards alternate red, black etc. Have some-one from the audience cut the deck and then shuffle it once. Then you can cut the pack between two cards of the same colour. Turn over the top card. If it is red, deal it to your left, face up. If it is black, deal it to your right, face up. Deal the next card face down underneath it. Repeat step 4, then this step (5) until the pack is gone. The piles you have are mirror images. The cards underneath the red face up pile are black and the cards underneath the black face up pile are red.

DICETRICK To start this trick you will need to see what card is 14th in the pile. In front of the audience predict that someone will pick whatever the 14th card was. Have the person roll the dice and you ask them to add the two numbers on the top that are showing. You also ask them to pick up the dice and add the numbers from the bottom as well. Because the opposite sides of dice will always add up to 7, the numbers from both dice will always equal 14. Count 14 cards into the pile, turn it over and it will be the card you predicted!

NUMBER 13 To start this trick you need to make sure the cards are in order (Ace, 2, 3, 4, 5, etc. of each suit). When you shuffle you do it end over end. Actually you are just cutting the deck every time. You must do it thirteen times. Deal out thirteen cards. Once you are at thirteen go back and repeat. Do this until the deck is done and you have thirteen piles of four cards each. Tap the cards, or make some other magical gesture and flip over each pile. All the suits are together!

RUNAWAY TOOTHPICK For this trick you will need 5 toothpicks, washing up liquid and a plate. Lightly fill the plate with a low level of water and place 4 of the toothpicks on top of the water in the shape of a square. Dip the tip of the remaining toothpick into the washing up liquid. Gently touch the water in between the other toothpicks and watch you audience stand back in amazement as they scatter away right before their eyes!

THIMBLE BABIES For this trick you will need 2 big thimbles, 2 small thimbles, your piece of cloth and your magic wand. Hide the two small thimbles in your hand and tell the audience that your big thimbles are going to multiply with smaller thimbles. As you put the piece of cloth over the big thimbles drop the smaller ones on the table but make sure no-one notices. Make a move through the air like you are grabbing a thimble out of thin air. Repeat this motion and then lift the piece of cloth up off the table and the smaller thimbles will magically appear!

THE THIMBLE THAT CHANGES COLOUR You need a small thimble and a large one that fits on top of it. To start, you put both thimbles on your finger. In front of the audience point your finger left, and make a fist with the rest of the fingers. Move your other hand in front of your finger very quickly and at the same time bend your finger and take the large thimble off with your middle finger and thumb. Then hide it in the fist you made. Move your other hand out of the way of your finger with the thimble. It will give the illusion that it has changed colour.

MIXED UP CARDS Hold the deck of cards face down in your left hand. With your right hand take a small bunch of the cards and turn them face up and put them back on top of the cards in your left hand. Now take all the cards and some more from your left hand and turn them over and place them back on the deck of cards in your right hand again. Repeat this until you have gone through the entire deck. Now the audience thinks the cards are really mixed up, but they are just in two piles, facing each other. Find the place where the two piles come together and separate them. Put the piles on the table and give them one last quick shuffle. Now spread the cards out to show they have been magically returned to order!

COLOURED BALLS You will need 2 full balls and a half of one. The trick is to make it seem to the audience that you are holding 2 balls in between your fingers. In reality the top ball is the full ball and the bottom is only the half. The other full ball is hidden in your opposite hand. Put your right hand behind your left hand and push the top ball onto the bottom half and then put the ball that was hidden between your fingers of your right hand, where the first ball was in the beginning of the trick. This gives the illusion as if the ball has switched colour to the audience. THE CHANGING DICE You will need 2 dice, the dice box and your magic wand. Tell the audience that you will be able to change the number on the die as you push it through the box. But not only will you be able to do that, you will also be able to tell them what the dice will add up to once it comes out of the box. Make sure the audience can’t see the hole at the bottom of the die box! As you push the die through revealing the number that was previously on its left. So if you put the die through the box with the 1 showing it will now show 4. For example, if you put one die through with a 1 and one die through with 3, the resulting numbers will be 4 and 5, which adds up to 9.

ADD UP TO TWENTY Ask a person to come up with 5 odd figures that add up to 20. As twenty is an even number, people who try it will soon give up. The numbers are 13, 5, 1 and 1. When you add these numbers up you will find the total is 20. There are only 4 odd numbers but there are 5 odd figures: 1, 3, 5, 1 and 13. The trick calls for five odd figures, which most people take to mean 5 odd numbers!

NUMBER GUESSING Ask someone to think of a number between 1 and 10. Tell them to tell the person sitting next to them what the number is. For example, the number may be 5. You have to double it so they get 10. Then tell them to add 10 to the answer. This should give them 20, and then divide that by two so they will get 10 again. Now tell your volunteer to yell out their final number which is 10. When they yell out their number all you have to do is to subtract 5 from it and this will give you the number they started with.

IMPOSSIBLE KNOT TRICK Lay a length of rope out on the table and then cross your arms at your chest. Pick up the length of rope with your arms still crossed. Now while still holding onto the rope, uncross your arms and there will magically be a knot in the rope!

COUNTING CARDS Make sure the cards are in numerical order (Ace, 2, 3, 4, 5 and so on). Tell the audience that the cards can hear their names and will appear when it is spelled out. Starting by saying “A-C-E” and when you hear “E” flip over a card. It should be an ace. Do this throughout the whole deck. It should end on the last King.

CUP AND BALLS TRICK You will need 3 plastic cups and 3 pom poms. You simply stack two cups, place a ball on top of the stack and place the third cup over the entire stack. When you lift the three cup stack, the ball seemed to have slipped through the two cups and is found on the table. Once again you stack two cups and place over the ball that has already journeyed through the cups. The second ball is placed on top of the two cups stack and the third cup is placed over the entire stack. When you lift the three cup stack, the second ball seems to have slipped through the two cups and is found on the table with the first ball. Now to finish, place one cup over the two balls on the table, rest another cup on the table a short distance away, put the last ball on top of that cup and place the last cup on top of the ball. Now lift the first cup to show that the third ball has magically joined the other two under the first cup.

THE ELEVATOR TRICK Take a deck of cards. Start by taking any card and place it on top of the deck. The ace of spades is now the second card from the top. Use the pad of your small finger to hold a break between the top two cards and the rest of the deck. Pick up the two cards as one and show the audience. They will think you are only holding the ace of spades. Place both cards back on the deck. Take the top card, which isn’t the ace of spades and push it into the centre of the deck. Give the deck a good shake and reveal that the ace of spades has magically appeared at the top.

COIN THROUGH A PIECE OF CLOTH TRICK Start by putting a coin in your right hand and cover it with your piece of cloth. Pretend you are straightening the piece of cloth out, whilst doing this tuck a little bit of cloth in-between the coin and your thumb. Take the front of the piece of cloth and throw it over the back, showing that the coin is still there. Now take both sides and throw them to the front, which should stay because of the piece you tucked in between your thumb and coin earlier. Start twisting around the coin. The coin will want to come out but do not release it yet. Continue twisting until it is tight. Now push the coin through appearing as if it is slipping through the piece of cloth. Take the coin out and show the audience your cloth . It’s magic, there’s no hole! REVERSE CARD TRICK Start by putting the bottom card in the deck face up. Have a volunteer from the audience pick up a card and show the rest of the members of the audience. While the rest of the audience is distracted, turn the deck around so the top card will face down while the other cards will be facing up towards you. Have someone put the card back into the middle of the desk. Turn the cards back over so now the cards will be facing down. The card that the volunteer pushed in the deck will now be facing the opposite direction of the rest of the cards. Now you can shuffle through the cards one at a time until you reach the card that is facing the opposite direction of the rest of the cards.

ONE-HANDED FAN TRICK Hold a deck of cards on its side in one hand (left hand if your left-handed, right hand if your right-handed). Place your middle and ring fingers around the short end of the deck, the small finger underneath the bottom long end, the index finger over the top long end and the thumb on the back corner. Now you move the index and small fingers away from the deck while holding on with the middle ring fingers. Spread the cards upwards in one smooth motion with pressure from the thumb to form a fan. Now replace the index and small fingers to the bottom of the fan once the thumb is up as high as it can go. Apply a little pressure with the index and small fingers to the bottom of the fan to get a wider spread. The fan should be spread wide enough so that the numbers are equally visible.

REVERSE ONE-HANDED FAN TRICK Place your index finger and thumb in the top right corner of the deck. One finger must be on each side, and you’ll use these two fingers primarily to hold the deck. Bend your middle finger, ring finger and small finger. The tips of these fingers must be touching the edge of the card deck. Use the three bent fingers to fan the cards out. Push the cards by starting with the middle finger, then following with the ring finger and finally the small finger. Hold your thumb and index finger in place while pushing with the other fingers. Now push with your pointer finger. At the end of the card fan, give the cards a little push with your index finger to open up a larger fan.

THE JUMPING ROPE Take a smaller piece of rope that matches the rope you have in your box. Fold your original rope in half and tie the small piece around its middle. It will look like you have two pieces of rope tied together. Now take an end in each hand pull them away from each other and the knot will appear to fly off the rope!

FALSE CARD SHUFFLE Hold the deck in one hand and pull up the cards and drop them back into the deck with the other hand. Hold the deck on its side in your left hand with fingers curled around the side and your thumb supporting the centre of the deck. Have the cards facing your thumb to hold the top card. Keep your body turned just slightly to the left so that no-one can see you are not shuffling a particular card. Pull the cards up from the middle of the deck with your right hand, pressing lightly with your thumb to move a few of the thumb side cards to the finger side. The card you want to keep should not move within the deck. Now shuffle the cards from your right hand into your left hand and repeat the action until you are satisfied. The card touching your fingertips is the card you want!

MAKE A CUP DISAPPEAR You will need a cup, a pom pom and a piece of fabric. You are now going to make the pom pom disappear! Put a pom pom on the table and put the cup on top so it completely covers it. Now cover the cup with the piece of fabric. Say abracadabra over the top of the cup. Make sure to keep the cup covered. Lift the piece of fabric and cup off the pom pom. Express amazement that the pom pom is still there. While doing so, move the piece of fabric and cup towards you, allowing the cup to drop into your lap. Keep the piece of fabric’s shape with your hand as though the cup is still there. Move the piece of fabric back over the pom pom. Bang the piece of fabric down on the table with your free hand. It is empty!

DISAPPEARING COIN Place a coin on the table. The trick is to make the coin disappear when picked up. To do this you need to position the coin onto the table with your left hand. Press down on the coin with your index, middle and third fingers of your hand keeping your arm parallel to the table, now slide the coin towards you making sure it is completely covered up. Slide the coin off the table so it falls into your lap. Touch your thumb to your middle finger as if you are picking up the coin as it reaches the edge of the table. Keeping all of your fingers closed, stare at where the coin should be as you slowly move your hand away from your back to about 6 inches above where the coin was. Start moving your thumb in a circular motion to demonstrate the coin is starting to disappear! Now slowly turn your hand around and spread your fingers apart revealing the coin. THE BASIC BALL TRICK Start by holding the ball that splits in half in the palm of your right hand. Position your left hand at the same level as your right hand. Pretend to pass the ball from hand to hand. Make sure you cover your right hand with the fingers of your left hand so that the audience cannot see what you are doing. When you turn your right hand, the ball is held in your palm, at the same time keeping your hand looking normal. Add some pressure with your thumb and small finger to make it work. With your left fist clenched and your right hand relaxed, point with your finger towards your left fist. The audience is now looking at your left hand. Slowly open that hand, finger by finger revealing the ball has disappeared. The ball is now in your right hand!

JUMPING BALL Make a ball leap between your magic box and lid. Using the plastic box with the lid and the plastic ball from your magic box. To start, drop the ball into the box and hold the lid next to the open box. When you blow into the box that holds the ball, the ball will pop out and you catch it in the lid.

KEY AND THE ROPE A member of the audience makes 2 loops in the ends of the rope and passes them over your hands. The rest of the rope hangs between your two hands. Now the person takes the rope in the middle forming a loop with it and passes this loop through a key and over the right hand and through the loop formed by the end of the rope around your wrist. To finish, the big loop is passed over your fingers so that the key is hanging down, tied to the rope.

ROPED RINGS Hang two rings in the loop of your rope, which you have folded in two. Then move the right hand ring downwards, along with the right hand part of the loop. Cover the ring partially with your thumb (the right hand side of the loop goes over through the ring). Then you push the other ring and take it off the rope by letting it slip so far to the right hand side of the loop that the end of the rope goes through the ring, after which the ring is free. With your thumb pressing the right hand part of the loop and the rope. As soon as the first ring is free, you blow on the other ring and open your hand. The other ring then appears! Keep your left hand in the same position, so it looks as if the ring is still on the rope.

VANISHING COIN Take a piece of paper around and then borrow a coin from the audience and place it on the paper. Fold up the paper from the bottom covering the coin but do not let the edge meet the top of the paper. Pick up the paper in your left hand. Fold the ridge edge downwards and back onto the coin. Then fold the left edge down and back which leaves you with a neat packet containing the coin. Press the paper down onto the coin so that the shape of the coin becomes visible. Then turn the packet over so that the coin can slide secretly into your left hand. Continue to hold the paper as if it still contains the coin and transfer it to your right hand. Meanwhile, let the coin casually drop into your pocket. Finally, rip up the paper to show that the coin has vanished.

THE ULTIMATE CARD TRICK You will need three cards, the 10 of hearts, the 10 of spades and the card that has the 10 of hearts on one side and the 10 of spades on the other side. To start, place the 10 of hearts into your pocket before the trick starts so no-one will know it is there. This will make the audience think that you are only doing this trick with two cards, not 3. Show them the 10 of hearts and the 10 of spades and hide them where no-one can see them. Turn the double face card over so only the 10 of spades show and only show this side. Then place this card into the pocket where the 10 of hearts is in. Ask the audience where they think each card is. They will be shocked to find out that they are normal playing cards, one being pulled from your pocket and the other being pulled from your hiding place.

THE KEY TO TRICKS This is specifically a dice trick. If any trick includes a member of the audience, adding up the top of the die showing side of the die to the side you can’t see, it will always add up to 7.

THE ART OF A TRICK This special magic card in the pack has a 5 on one side and 2 on the other but depending on how you hold it, it can be a 4 on one side and 1 on the other, or a 6 and a 3, or many other combinations. Practice holding the card in different ways, covering different pictures. As you flip it over you can give the illusion that the card has more or less pictures that it really has. This will amaze the audience every time!

BASICS TO THIMBLE TRICKS Place the thimble on your finger and keep the back of your hand towards the audience and keep your finger horizontal. Make a throwing motion with your hand and curl your finger down and grab the thimble with the base of your thumb and palm so the audience can’t see it. It gives the illusion that you have thrown the thimble and it has vanished into thin air! MAKING A THIMBLE APPEAR To start you will need a small thimble. Keep the thimble hidden at the base of your thumb and palm. You can make a grabbing motion and slide the thimble onto your finger. This will give the illusion that the thimble has just appeared!

FLYING THIMBLE To start, place the thimble on your middle finger. In front of the audience, put your left hand palm up and place your middle finger that has the thimble on it and your finger. Whilst doing this you must bend your finger and extend your third finger. This makes it seem like the thimble is flying from one finger to another.

FLYING THIMBLE TECHNIQUES When you have mastered the flying thimble you can now make the thimble really fly. When you go to put your right hand into your left palm, you grab the thimble between your thumb and third finger, moving from your middle finger to your finger and watch it fly.

CARD OUT OF THIN AIR Proclaim you can make a card appear out of thin air. You can make it appear from behind their ear, around the back of their head, anywhere in the room! First hold a comfortable amount of cards in your palm and grip it with your fingers. Use your thumb to pull the top card. Continue using your thumb to slide the card up so your audience can see it and grasp it between your thumb and forefinger. As you are moving the card up have your hand slightly forward to give the effect that you are grabbing it out of the air. You can continue doing this with all the cards left in your hand. Throw each card in the direction of the audience before producing the next card.

THE ESCAPING RING You will need rope, ring and a piece of fabric. To prepare for this trick you must fold the rope in half and put it through the ring in order to make a knot around the ring. In front of the audience you need to knot the two ends of the string together. You want to ask someone from the audience to hold the knot you have just made in front of them and cover the ring with your piece of fabric. While you are holding the ring under the fabric, you want to loosen the knot a little bit without the audience realising. In order to do this, you push the knot down to the bottom of the ring and ask the volunteer to then remove the fabric. The audience will see that the ring has been removed from the rope but they won’t know how it was done!

MOVING RING You will need a ring and rope. Ask someone to tie a loop around each of your wrists. Turn around and tell the audience that you are going to make the ring appear on the rope. Pull string from the middle to make a loop and slide the ring onto it. Then take that same loop and slide it over one of your hands, and then pull it back over your fingers. Now turn around and show the audience a ring on the rope but a ring which is also tied to the rope.

POM POM TRICK Put the pom pom on your palm and cover it up with your piece of fabric. Go around the audience to look under the fabric to make sure the pom pom is really there. Have your helper look last and while no-one is looking take the pom pom from your hand. Now you can say abracadabra and lift the piece of fabric off your hand. The pom pom is gone!

MIND READER You will need your foam rabbit and wand. You will also need a secret helper. To start, lay the 3 objects in a row where your audience will be able to see them. Select someone to be your secret helper and figure out which object is considered the left, right and middle. You are going to tell someone in the audience to pick an object, once you leave the room, and tell everyone in the audience which one they picked. Your secret helper will yell to you to tell you they are ready to guess which object the audience member picked. Depending on whether the audience picked the left, right or middle, you and your secret helper will have a special saying to figure out which one they picked. If the audience member picked the left, your secret helper can yell “Come back in”. If they picked the right, the secret helper can yell “We’re ready” If they picked the middle, the secret helper can yell “OK we picked an object” Depending on which one the secret helper says, it will let you know which object the audience member picked.

MAGIC Ask some-one to select an item while you are out of the room, and tell everyone else which item was selected and leave it in place. When you return, another person goes from object to object, touching them in random order. You will be able to tell what the object is. To prepare for this, have a friend who is in on it, touch each object with a specific colour when you come back into the room. Beforehand, you and the secret person would agree on a certain colour. After the secret person touches black, the following object will be the one that was selected. COIN THROUGH LEG Make a coin magically pass through your leg! Show a coin to the audience. The coin is held between the thumb and fingers. Now, lower the coin to your trousers leg and slightly above your knee. Place the coin on your leg above your knee. Now with your other hand bring it over besides the coin; with both fingers lift some fabric up and under the coin. Now the coin is covered, the thumb of your right hand pulls the coin up behind your right fingers then move your right hand away and place it behind your left leg. The left hand appears to be holding onto the coin. For the vanishing movement, your left hand has to be turned to show the audience that it is empty while the fabric should drop revealing it has vanished. Now show from behind your knee the coin that has magically gone through your leg.

A MAGICAL GUESS You will need the magic box with the lid. Start by asking the audience to put a small object inside. With your eyes closed, ask the audience to place the object in your box. Now close the box, reopen your eyes and place the box behind your back. You are now going to guess what is in the box. While the box is behind your back, take the lid and place it on one of the side panels of the box. Now you take the box from behind your back and show the bottom to the audience with the open part towards you. You can see the chosen object while the audience still thinks the box is whole. You now put the box behind your back again, put the lid back on and bring the closed box to the audience’s view. Tell the audience what is inside the box!

DISAPPEARING KNOT Take out a handkerchief and roll it very tightly. Now grip four inches of the handkerchief in your right hand between your first and second fingers. Close your third and fourth fingers around the rest of the handkerchief and hold it in the palm of your hand. Make an X with the handkerchief by bringing the other end up between your second and third fingers, holding it with your thumb. Reach into the loop you just made with your left hand and grab the end being held between your first and second fingers. Pull it through the loop at the same time you tighten the grip of your third and fourth fingers. This will make a small bunch of the hanky get trapped in the loop and it will look like a knot! Show the knot to the audience. To make it disappear, simply pull the ends of the handkerchief and the knot will disappear.

ROPE THROUGH YOUR BODY Measure two pieces of rope to make sure they are the same size. Place the ends together and find the middle of the two ropes. Cut a small piece of thread and tie it in a knot around the middle of the ropes. Show the ropes to the audience after you’ve prepared the ropes. Pull on the ends to show that they’re strong. Place the ropes behind your back and prepare to perform the secret move. Find the attached thread in the middle. Then as you move the ropes behind while holding them by the threads, put your thumb under one of the ropes and switch the position of the ropes so that they are making loops. Place the newly made loops of the ropes against your back and bring the ends around your waist in front of you. Do not pull too tightly on the thread or it will break! Take any two of the ends in each hand and tie them into a knot to secure the rope around your waist. Hold all four ends firmly and give them a little pull. The thread will break behind you as you pull to release the loops. It looks like the ropes have passed through you!

THE VALUE OF THE COIN Someone places a coin under a piece of paper while you have turned your back to them. When they have finished, turn your back and say that you know the value of the coin that is under the piece of paper without lifting the paper or asking any questions. To start, you will need a pencil and a small piece of paper. The secret is to take the pencil out of your pocket, and by touching the piece of paper to the coin with the pencil, the imprint of the coin will appear then you will be able to guess the coins value!

VANISH You will need a single playing card. It appears like the card has completely vanished!

HOT MONEY You will need a non-see through container and some coins for this trick. Put the coins in a container or bag and then ask someone to take a coin out of the hat and mark it with a marker. Now pass the coin between the audience and put it back into the hat. With your eyes closed you are able to take the marked coin out. The coin that went from hand to hand will be warmer than the others! THIMBLE FINGERS Start with a small thimble on your right first finger and a large thimble of the same colour on top of this. It will appear as if you have only one. Now take a handkerchief in your left hand and hold it in front of your right hand. While it is in front, remove the larger thimble and place it onto the middle finger. Take away the handkerchief and the audience now sees two!

THE MAGIC TOOTHPICK This trick requires 2 toothpicks and a handkerchief. Before you start this trick insert one of the toothpicks down one edge inside the handkerchief (this is the one you will be snapping). Next place the other toothpick in the middle of the handkerchief. The handkerchief is then folded over the toothpick and picked up. Then proceed to break the toothpick in several places {the toothpick you inserted down the edge). The toothpick can easily be heard snapping. The handkerchief is then unfolded and the toothpick is shown to be whole and undamaged. It can be handed out to the audience for examination. Magic!

DISAPPEARING TOOTH PICK You will need a half plastic ball, a pom pom and a piece of cloth. Tell your audience that you are going to make the pom pom disappear on a table or hard surface, and put the ball half on top so it completely covers the pom pom. Now cover the ball half with the piece of cloth. Say abracadabra over the piece of fabric and half of ball. Lift the piece of fabric and ball half off the pom pom. Now move the fabric and half ball towards you, allowing the ball half to drop into your lap. Keep the fabric shape with your hand as though the ball half is still there. Move the piece of fabric down with your free hand revealing it to be empty.

CHANGING RINGS For this trick you need the half shell ring that fits over the top of the other rings. Hold them both together in your left hand, between your finger and thumb, so that it looks like you are just holding a ring. Now move your right hand over the top and secretly remove the shell half ring leaving the whole red ring behind. It’s changed colour!

BOTTOMLESS THIMBLE Place a thimble upside down and grasp it with your forefinger and thumb near its rim. With your other hand poke the wand up and down inside the thimble, hitting the bottom several times. Now, poke up behind the thimble and beyond the bottom and back up again and it will look like you have gone right through the bottom of the thimble!

THE MAGIC BALL This trick requires a light coloured string and two ball halves that clip together. To start you will have to tie the string around the middle of the ball and the other end gets tied around your finger. Hold the ball between your thumb and finger. When you drop the ball it should hang by your palm making sure that no-one in the audience will be able to see the string.

THE MAGIC ROPE This trick requires rope and a small piece of string. To start, tie the piece of rope in a small bunch and tie the string to the end of it. You will need to hide the rope in your jacket collar by your neck and attach the string to your top button or zipper of your jacket. Show the audience that you have nothing in your hands and smoothly move your hand to slip your thumb behind the string and pull forward and the rope will then magically appear for the audience.

AMAZING PREDICTIONS You will need three cups and 6 half balls for this trick. To prepare you put a pink half ball under the blue cup, the purple half under the red cup and the blue half under the yellow cup. You need to remember what colour is under each cup or else the trick will not work. Tell the audience that you can make a prediction (but don’t tell them what the prediction is) and give one member of the audience the remaining 3 half balls. You tell them to put 1 of the halves in front of each cup but they cannot put the same colour shade in front of the cup (you cannot put the pink half in front of the red cup). After the decision has been made by the audience member you can say your prediction was right about the amount of balls and their colour.

THE DISAPPEARING DIE For this trick you will need a die and a magic wand. To start you make a tight fist with left hand with thumb resting on top of it and place the die on top of your fist. Show your fist to the audience and pretend to grab the die with you right fist but let the die fall into your left fist by loosening your fist enabling the die to fall in the centre of your fist. Take your magic wand with two fingers from your left hand and as you are doing this you drop the die into your pocket. Tap lightly on the top of your right fist and open it to show the die magically disappeared from your hand. MAGICAL KNOT Tie a knot putting the right end over the left end. Now you are going to knot the rope into a messy knot by putting the right end through the bottom loop and pulling it all the way through away from you. Now slowly pull the ends apart.

THE AMAZING CARD TRICK You will need a full deck of cards to perform this trick. To start you need to flip the bottom card of the deck. Spread the cards out for the audience in a fan so that they cannot see the flipped card. Ask someone from the audience to pick a card from the deck. While they are looking at the card, flip the deck again so the bottom has been flipped so it looks like the top of the deck. Slowly flip the bottom card so it will be the flipped card so it will be chosen. This way the audience member puts their card back in the deck it will be the only card which will be upside down in the entire deck. You can shuffle the cards as long as you want to give the illusion that you are making it harder to find the card, but in fact you will be able to find it easily because it will be the only card in the entire deck facing the wrong way!

THE MAGIC CARD TRICK To do this trick you will need 11 cards from your deck of cards. You want to lay down your cards in this order 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, Ace, Joker, 10, 9, 8, 7. Then let someone move the cards one at a time from right to left. Wave your hand over the cards and silently count 7 cards over from the left to right. Turn the 7th card over. It doesn’t matter how many cards they move over, this will always work. Always count 7 cards over (starting with the set-up above) and it will be the number of cards they moved. If they decide not to move any at all, the card will be a joker and this tells you they didn’t move any cards at all.

WHERE DID THE KNOT COME FROM? This trick requires a piece of rope. To start tie a knot in one end of the rope. Make sure you hide this end of rope in your hand and bring the other end of the rope up next to it. Shake your hand as if you are trying to knot it. Say abracadabra and blow in your hand and drop the end with the knot and it looks like you have tied a knot in the rope using one hand.

THE RUBBER WOBBLY PENCIL Hold your pencil very loosely between the tips of your thumb and finger. Move your hand very quickly and this will give the illusion that the pencil is like rubber, bending back and forth.

THE MAGIC WAND AND MAGIC FABRIC This trick requires your wand and purple fabric. Place the fabric over your left fist and put an indent between your finger and thumb. You will be able to drop your wand all the way through even though there is no hole in the purple fabric. The trick starts when you poke the cloth between your fingers and thumb your middle finger goes towards the back. This allows you to make a circle with your finger and thumb and the cloth will go in between them, making it appear that the wand is magically going through the fabric!

THE DISAPPEARANCE For this trick you will need someone to help you from the audience but make sure the rest of the audience isn’t aware that this person is helping you! To start, you will put a die in the palm of your hand and cover it with a piece of fabric. Wave your hand over it and say abracadabra, then tell your audience that it has disappeared. Have members of your audience (and your secret helper) look under the piece of fabric. The audience will laugh when they realise it is still there and you will seem puzzled as if you are confused as to why it didn’t work, but really this is part of the trick. Make sure that your secret helper looks last and secretly take the die from your hand without anyone noticing. Say abracadabra again and pull the fabric off showing that the die has disappeared. The audience will not understand how it happened!

THE DISAPPEARING KNOT For this trick you will need rope and a piece of string. Start by tying a piece of string around the rope so there is a loop on one side. Hold the rope and slide it through the loop and then back through as if it will create a knot. Then pull the two ends of the rope and the thread will break and the knot will disappear in the rope!

ELASTIC TRICKERY 2 You show a rubber band around two fingers of your clenched fist- a flick and it jumps on to the other two fingers of the same hand! Really all four finger tips are through the band but only the top two knuckles. When you flick your fingers straight and bend again the rubber band jumps off the top two knuckles and down to your bottom two fingers. RIPPING TRICK Use piece of cloth that comes in the kit before risking it on a real piece of cloth. Ask someone to hold their hanky out in front of you and insert a pin. The pin is pushed through the fabric from the bottom and fastened. Note how the back of the pin is to the left. Grab it and pinch it to unfasten it, pull it firmly across and downward, and give a little push forward. No tear!

TEARING NEWSPAPER Buy two copies of a newspaper. Take two of the same sheets and fold one of them into a small parcel, which you stick to the other sheets top left. Tear the sheet by the middle place one half on top of the other, so that the page is turned to you. Repeat this until you have a paper of the same size as the prepared paper. Turn it over and unfold it: you have restored the newspaper sheet! Keep the torn pieces at the back.

BALANCING GLASS Take two playing cards from another deck so as not to spoil the ones in your magic set. The magician then makes a glass of water balance on a playing card! First fold one of them on the centre line and you glue one half against the back side of the other card. Pick up the glass filled with water and place it balanced on the card with the other card at the back side opened in a T-form. Now show the card as a normal card, pressing the flap against it.

THE TRICK DIE Hold the die between your thumb and finger with the number “6” facing the audience. Ask the audience what number is on the other side. They will say “1” because the opposite numbers of the die always adds up to “7”. They will be shocked when you turn over the die and there is a “5” on the other side. In order to do this you need to turn the die at 90 degrees angle between your fingers at the same time you turn it to show the audience.

MULTI-COLOURED BALLS For this trick you will need two different colour balls and your piece of fabric. Now show the audience the blue ball in that same palm. Make them think you are putting the blue ball under the fabric when in fact you are putting the pink one under it. Put the blue ball in your palm where the pink one used to be. Now lift the fabric up and as if by magic the audience will see a pink ball appear from under the piece of fabric!

THE ONE HAND KNOT To start, pick up the cord in one of your hands. Lower your hand and take one end of the rope between your thumb and middle finger, this will form a loop over your hand. Slide the loop and whip the rope. This will turn the loop into a knot and appear you have done this with one hand.

ROPE AND WAND TRICK To start this trick, tie the two ends of the rope together forming a loop and a knot at one end. Get someone to hold both ends of the wand out straight. Hold the end with the knot in your right fingers and with your left hand loop the other end of the rope under the wand and back so it ends up next to your right hand. With your right finger and left, secretly make a circle around one of the pieces of the rope which is currently in your left hand. Let go of the knot that was in your right fingers and pull your hands away letting the rope slide through the circle made by your finger and thumb. Now let go of the knot very quickly and it will give the illusion as if the rope is passing through the wand.

FLYING RING For this trick you need your magic wand, a ring and a translucent thread (three times longer than your wand). Tie one end of the thread to one end of your magic wand and tie the other end of the thread onto a button on your shirt. Hold the wand vertically and take your ring and slide it down the wand. When you move the wand close to your body and away from your body, the ring will go up and down the wand. When finished snap the thread!

THE EGG TRICK For this trick you will need your plastic egg, piece of fabric and thread. Start by tying the thread around the egg and hold the other end of the string behind the piece of fabric with your thumb and finger. Fold the fabric in half and tell the audience that you are going to produce an egg. Now hold the piece of fabric folded, slide the egg out on one side onto the table!

THE MAGIC KNOTTED ROPE Loop the rope in your left hand while you coil the rope with your right hand. Take the coil in your right fingers between your thumb and your finger and grip the other side with your right fingers. Pull it to the right as your left hand pulls the other side to the left and knots slowly appear on the rope. THE RINGS AND ROPE You need 3 rings and a piece of rope for this trick. Slide one of your rings on the rope and then fold the rope in half. Make sure the opening on the rope is touching the ring. Now proceed to put the other two rings on the already folded rope. Have someone hold the two ends of the string and drape it over a table. Hold the ring at the bottom and pull the ring off, at the same time the other two rings will fall off as well.

THE MAGIC POM POM You will need 3 pom poms. To start, put two pom poms on the table and hide a third one in your right hand. Have someone in the audience come up and choose a pom pom. You then proceed to pick it up in your right hand. Take the remaining pom pom off the table and act as if you are putting it into your left hand. Open your right hand and then ask the person to open their hand. The pom pom will appear in their hand!

ESCAPE RING You will need two rings, a piece of rope and piece of fabric. The trick is to tie a knot around a ring and put a fabric cloth over it and watch the ring magically come out of the knot while the knot is in the rope. To start you must tie a knot in the rope around the ring and put the piece of cloth over it while someone from the audience holds both sides of the string. The trick is to hide a second ring in your right hand. While the ring is covered by the piece of fabric, push the ring with your thumb and finger so that it goes through the knot. The knot will still be in the rope and slide the ring to the left hand and remove the string from the grasp of the person. While doing this, show the second ring that you had hidden in your hand.

HALVING BALLS This trick you will require 3 cups and 3 ball halves. To prepare, put the cups on the table and place 1 half of the ball on each cup. Under each half of the ball, place a small piece of string. Turn around and ask someone from the audience to lift up the half off the top of one of the cups and place it back down. You will be able to tell which half has been lifted because the string that was underneath all the halves would have fallen off.

THE MAGICAL ESCAPE This trick requires a piece of rope. To start, let the string rest over the palm of one of your hands. Take the string and wrap it around your finger and back over your fingers and behind your thumb. You then have to make a twist in the opposite direction and bring it across your fingers again, behind your thumb and tuck the strand behind your other finger. Use your other hand to lift the ropes off your thumb and move them between your middle fingers. Now pull the strand that is hanging over your palm and the rope will magically come off your hand!

THE MAGICAL APPEARING EGG To start this trick you will need a light coloured string and the plastic egg that clips together. To start, you tie the string around the middle of the egg and the other end gets tied around your finger. Hold the egg between your thumb and finger. When you drop the egg it should hang by your palm making sure that no-one in the audience will be able to see it. By moving your fingers it will either appear or disappear.

CLOCK AND MAGIC DIE TRICK To perform this trick you will need a die. Ask someone from the audience to pick a number without telling you what that number is. Then tell them to find the number opposite. 6 is opposite 12, 8 is 2, etc. Now tell them to subtract the lowest number of the two from the other. Finally ask them to add 1. You tell them that you will roll the magic die and that the number that shows and the number on the surface will add up to the number they had picked. The number will always be 7.

THE IMPOSSIBLE MAGICAL KNOT Place the rope on a table in front of you and cross your arms. Use your left hand to pick up the right end of the rope. Use your right hand to pick up the left end of the rope. Unfold your arms and ‘slide’ the loop on the table: suddenly the knot appears.

ACES IN THE POCKET For this trick you will need a deck of cards. To start this trick you need to be wearing a jacket with a large pocket and you need to empty the aces from the deck and put them in your pocket, with the faces towards you. Ask someone from the audience to cut and shuffle the deck then ask them to put the cards in the same pocket as the one with the aces in it. Hold your pocket open for them making sure to conceal the aces so they can’t see them. Ask for a number between 1 and 10. Count that many cards from the top of the pile and when you get to the last number take one of the aces. Put the packet of cards on the table and rest the ace face down away from the packet. Repeat the last step until you have removed all four aces. Turn over the cards on the table to reveal the four aces. RING AND LOOP SLIP You will need a rope and a ring to do this trick. To prepare, tie the two ends of the rope together to form a loop and slide the ring on it. Then have someone from the audience come up and make a fist with their hands, having their thumbs pointed up in the air. Place a loop over their thumbs with the ring in the centre and the knotted part of the string to your right. With your thumb and finger squeeze the two ropes together near the volunteer’s right hand. Take a piece of the rope that is furthest away from you and loop it around their right thumb. Without letting go of the rope, slide the ring to your left hand and take rope from behind the ring and loop it over the volunteer’s right thumb again. Let go of the string and pull the ring that seems as if it is tied tightly within the string wrapped around the volunteer’s finger. Pull the ring and it will come off.

RINGS ON THE ROPE This trick requires two rings and a piece of rope. To start, slide both rings on the string and grab both ends of the rope. Move the ring on the right down along the right part of the loop. Then cover the ring partially with your thumb. The right side of the loop goes over and through the ring and the left side remains under the ring. Then push the other ring and take it off the rope by letting it slip to the right hand side of the loop, then the end of the rope goes through the ring. The ring will then be free. Press the right hand part of the loop and rope with your thumb and finger. As soon as the first ring is free, you blow on the other ring, say abracadabra, open your hand and the other ring will appear!

THE BALANCING BALL To start with you will need a ball, a transparent string and the magic wand. To prepare, tie the string to one end of the magic wand. Take the end of the wand with the string tied to it, in your right hand, and hold the loose end of the string and other side of the wand in your left hand. Have someone from the audience put the ball on your magic wand and you will be able to move the ball from one end to the other because it is supported by the string. It appears as if the ball is balancing on the wand!

THE MYSTERIOUS TUNNEL This trick requires a die, wand and the cardboard tunnel. Tell the audience that you are going to change the number of the die just by passing it through the tunnel. Show the audience the tunnel when it is flattened and again when it is built up. Make sure that the hole on the bottom is covered by your thumb. Now put the die in the tunnel and use your wand to push the die through the tunnel. When the die hits the hole on the bottom of the tunnel it will flip and change the number on the die. It will appear as if the number on the die as changed when it emerges from the tunnel.

WHERE’S THE BALL? The magician leaves the room closes the door and one person from the audience has to take a ball from your magic bag/ container. Tell them to hold it against their forehead for thirty seconds. Then knock on the door. At this moment, you have told everyone to place both of their hands (in fists) onto the table. Now you can come into the room. Walk around and look at everyone. You can guess who had the ball easily. The person who had the ball will have a paler forehead than everyone else due to a decrease in blood circulation as they had their hand against their forehead for thirty seconds.

RISING RING You will need your magic wand, a ring and a black thread three times as long as the wand. Remove one tip of the wand and loop one end of the thread to it. Replace the tip and tie the other end of the thread to a button on your jacket. Place the wand in your inner jacket pocket. Take the ring from the box and YOU’RE READY TO START! Remove the wand from your pocket and hold it vertically with the tip without the thread downward. Slide the ring on the wand from top to bottom. If you make the wand move forward and you lean backwards, the ring will move up and down. When you have finished the trick, snap the thread off the wand without being seen and let someone inspect the ring.

MAGICAL FLOATING WAND Hold the wand in your left hand and with your right hand grip the left hand wrist, using the right hand index finger to hold the wand firmly in position. Tell your audience that you are going to ‘magic’ your hand so that from their view it looks like you are clutching onto your other hand. Tell your audience that for this trick you need a very steady hand and for that reason you have to magic your hand and secretly press your index finger against the wand. Move your body to make it seem like you are charging while controlling your hand. The wand is now supported and when you straighten your fingers it will ‘float’. Move your hands to make the illusion more real. MAGIC COLOURED BALLS For this trick you will need one complete ball (pink) and half ball (purple). Place the pink ball between thumb and finger of your right hand and place the purple half ball on top of the pink ball. By passing your left hand over the pink ball with the purple half ball, you hide the purple half ball in the palm of your left hand. Let the audience examine the pink ball and they will not understand how it changed colour so quickly. You show two balls between the fingers of your right hand. In the other hand you have hidden a ball of a different colour. Hide your right hand behind your left and immediately push the top ball into the bottom half and put the ball of the different colour between the 1st and 2nd fingers of your right. To the audience it looks like the ball changed colour.

MAGICAL DISAPPEARING PENNY Take your magical disappearing penny kit, insert the plastic penny into the penny holder and slide the penny holder within the plastic outer sleeve. Bear in mind that the coin holder will slide up and down to reveal and hide the coin. If you place the coin in the top holder you will turn the holder upside down, the inner tray of the penny holder will slide reveal the penny holder without the penny. Execute this trick with the penny holder within the sleeve. To do the trick show your audience that you have placed the coin within the holder, then create a show and within the movement of your hands secretly turning the holder upside down. The slider will hide the coin, when you reveal the inner penny holder it will look like to your audience you have made the penny magically disappear.

BROKEN ROPE TRICK This is an inconspicuous sleight of hand trick. Take the broken rope trick, show your audience that the rope runs directly through the two halves of the holder. Let a member of the audience pull one side of the rope, to show that this is one piece of rope. Then with one quick movement slide the two halves of the kit, one side up and the other down. This will amaze your audience that you have been able to split one piece of rope into two separate pieces.

MIND READING Amaze your audience by making them think you are able to read their mind. Take the pack of cards from your magic set and shuffle the deck. Show your audience the deck of cards, take note of what the bottom card is and remember this card. Place the cards face down on the table (Your card is now face down on the top of the pack.) Ask a member of the audience to cut the deck of cards and flip them over and place them back on to the deck, then ask them to make a second deeper cut into the deck of cards. Then take away the upturned cards and let the participant take the top card. Then you can pretend to read their mind by saying what card this is. (This is the first card in the deck which you remembered at the beginning of the trick).

MYSTICAL CUP TRICK - CHEERS The aim to get all of the cups facing downwards in only 3 moves. In each move you will need to turn 2 cups over. You have to get all of the cups facing downwards within the three moves. The trick is all in the setup. Line the cups up in a row. Make sure you always have the two cups facing up and one cup facing down. Start with two cups facing downwards and one cup facing upwards. You will need to follow the sequence to complete their trick successfully. When setting up your friend’s cups, place two cups facing down and one facing up. You will find even if your friends copies you exactly they will end up with all of the cups facing upwards. First Move - Turn over one upward facing cup downwards and one downward facing cup upwards. Second Move - Turn over one upward facing cup downwards and one downward facing cup upwards. Third Move - Turn over the two upward facing cups downwards. You will be left with all of the cups facing downwards. Voila! You’ve completed the trick.

FOUR ACE CARD TRICK Magically reveal all aces to amaze your audience. Begin by discreetly placing the four aces at the top of the pack before you begin the trick. Then place the deck of cards on the table. Cut the deck of card in half and place them to the right of the half deck of cards. Then cut the left deck of cards in half and place it to the left of the deck you have just cut. Then cut the right deck of cards (the original deck with the aces on the top) and place them to the right of the deck of cards. Starting on the left, take the deck of card, place three cards underneath the pack one at a time, then place one card on top of each of the decks of cards starting from left to right. Then do the same with the second deck, then the third deck. you will have placed three cards on top of the right deck (which has your aces). Then place a card one at a time underneath the pack and then place one card on top of each of the decks of cards (these are the aces), when you reveal to your audience you will have magically placed three aces on the tops of all the packs of cards. BLOW THE KNOT OFF – ROPE TRICK This simple but effective trick will wow the crowd. Take the length of rope from the kit. Cut two 10cm lengths from the full length rope. You wil have 3 lengths in all. Tie a loose, simple knot in the middle of both the short lengths of rope. Don’t close the knot completely, then take your longer length of rope. About 1/3 of the way down the rope, fold it over and place the knot over the folded rope. Pull the knot securely so it’s tight. Make sure the folded piece of rope is hidden within the knot when it is placed around it. Repeat this about 2/3 down the rope with the 2nd short piece of rope. Display to your audience the rope which has two knots. Then when you blow onto the knot, discreetly pull the rope taut. This will pull the fold out of the rope and the knot will drop off. Then repeat this on the second knot.

LEVITATING RING You will need an elastic band for this trick and the small plastic ring. Firstly split the elastic band so that it is one long length and not a loop. Pinch the end of the elastic in your left hand and thread the elastic through the hole of the ring, then with your right hand hold the other end of the elastic taut. Make sure you hold the elastic a short distance from your left hand (around 6cm) then hide the excess elastic in the palm of your hand. Stretch the elastic out. To make the ring start to move, gently release the excess elastic in your right hand, as the elastic shrinks back towards your left hand it will take the ring with it. The secret is to smoothly and discreetly release the elastic.
