Science Fiction Genre (Part I) & Fiction ABC Order by author and title of the book.
DEFINITION: A Science Fiction story tells about science, space, planets, theories of science or science experiments that have gone wrong.
Review the science fiction genre. Below are the characteristics that make a story a “fantasy”.
Time travel
New worlds or planets
Teleportation
Mind control, telepathy, and telekinesis
Aliens, extraterrestrial lifeforms
Space travel and exploration
Interplanetary battles
Parallel Universes
Mutants (science experiments going wrong)
Think about Spiderman and the Incredible Hulk. These are examples of Science Fiction because of experiments taking place in a chemistry lab and the experiments done and the outcome was negative. The end results were not expected.
Also, consider any of the Star Wars books and movies. These are science fiction as well!
Next, take a look below at some popular “science fiction” book titles below.
A Wrinkle In Time by Madeleine L’Engle
The Time Hackers, by Gary Paulsen
Next try putting these science fiction books in ABC order by author’s last name. Remember, if there are more than one book by the same author, then place those books in order by the title, skipping “a, an or the”.
It’s a challenge!
