Cultural Program for the Summer School 2020 at the IPU „Ruptures and Utopia in Present Societies. Psychanalytic Perspectives and Social Critique“

1. Boat tour on the river Spree • The evening cruise throughout the metropole Berlin offers views of the city’s most important political and historical sights. A combination of modern and historical aspects of Berlin provide a special view on the origins, development and present perspective of the city. • Famous and lesser-known sights in Berlin are presented together with historical information and interesting anecdotes. Amongst other sights, the voyage leads past the Reichstag, Federal Chancellery, Central Station, “Palace of Tears” and Museum Island.

2. Excursion to the Department of Cultural History and Theory at the Humboldt University Berlin • Round table discussion concerning the current increase of antisemitism with Prof. Dr. Liliana Feierstein • Since winter term 2018/19, Prof. Dr. Feierstein is the managing director of the Department of Cultural History and Theory and spokesperson for the Selma Stern Centre for Jewish Studies, Berlin-. • On site presentation of current research.

3. Excursion to the Center for Research on Antisemitism at the TU Berlin • Round table discussion on the emotionalization of politics with Prof. Dr. Uffa Jensen. • Prof. Dr. Jensen wrote his habilitation thesis on the transnational history of psychoanalysis in Berlin, London and Calcutta, with which he habilitated at the Free University of Berlin in 2016. He currently teaches history at the Technical University of Berlin and conducts research at the Centre for Research on Anti-Semitism. • On site presentation of current research.

4. Excursion to the House of One • Round table discussion with the initiators of the House of One, Kadir Sanic (imam), Andreas Nachama (rabbi), Gregor Hohberg (minister) and Tovia Ben Chorin (rabbi).

5. Thematic City tour with Dr. Regine Lockot • City tour following in the footsteps of Walter Benjamins and psychoanalysts in the Bavarian Quarter. While walking along different locations throughout Berlin carrying importance to Benajmins during his lifetime, the tour further guides the participants to memorial plaques for psychoanalysts who were within the direct vicinity of Sigmund Freud. • Dr. Lockot has organized the city tours “Following the traces of Psychoanalysis“ since 2002. In July 2019 she received the “Community Award in Culture“ for the project “With Freud in Berlin”.

6. Exhibition visit to the German Historical Museum, temporary exhibition “Hannah Arendt and the 20th century”. • Guided tour through the exhibition. • Round table discussion concerning the significance of Hannah Arendt’s political theory while comprehending current political (youth) movements such as “Fridays for Future”.

7. Excursion to Teufelsberg with a guided tour on the subject of surveillance and mistrust • The Teufelsberg (engl. “Devil’s Mountain”) is a fabricated so called “rubble hill” (German expression: “Trümmerberg”) located in the west of Berlin within the locality . Located on this hill is a United States armed forces’ , originating from the Cold War. In 2012 the association „Initiative Kultur-DENK-MAL Berliner Teufelsberg g. e. V.“ was created as a platform for voluntary work within arts, culture, nature and history. It serves as a cross-regional exchange platform and think- tank for culture, art, history, technology, nature and new economic models.
