Detail of Engineering Programs Under Zero / Interim Phase 1 Detail of Engineering Programs Under Zero / Interim Phase Note: Following list of Engineering Programs of HEIs were approved to launch their academic sessions. However, these programs are not accredited yet. Program accreditation is subject to satisfactory compliance against accreditation criteria after the evaluation in the final year. Electrical Engineering Green signal/Permission is granted to launch the program Technology, Wazirabad (UET w.e.f Fall-2015 and onwards. Lahore) The intake must be restricted to 40 students per year. Observations of the visiting team must be addressed accordingly for onward verification during interim visit by PEC in the 2nd Year, particularly preparation of labs development, faculty hiring and other associated resources availability for next two years 2. Grand Charter College, Lahore B.Sc. Chemical Engineering Green Signal/Permission is granted to launch the program w.e.f. (Punjab University, Lahore) Intake of Batch Fall-2016 and onwards. The intake must be restricted to 40 students per year. Observations of the visiting team must be addressed accordingly for onward verification during interim visit by PEC in the 2nd year (2018), particularly Labs development, faculty hiring and other associated resources teaching-learning aids required for the next 2-3 years. 3. Imperial College of Business B.Sc. Mechatronics Engineering Green Signal/Permission is granted to launch the program w.e.f. Fall- Studies, Lahore 2014 and onwards. The intake must be restricted to 40 students per year. Observations of the visiting team must be addressed accordingly for onward verification during interim visit by PEC in the 2nd Year 2 S# Name of University/Institution Engineering Program(s) Decision of EA&QEC/EAB 4. Imperial College of Business B.Sc. Chemical Engineering Green Signal/Permission is granted to launch the program w.e.f. Fall- Studies, Lahore 2014 and onwards. The intake must be restricted to 40 students per year. Observations of the visiting team must be addressed accordingly for onward verification during interim visit by PEC in the 2nd Year 5. Minhaj University, Lahore B.Sc. Chemical Engineering Permission is granted to continue the program. However, minimum required (08) faculty must be ensured in the department before applying for accreditation visit. No application for Re-accreditation will be accepted on AC-1 (Accreditation Manual-2007) after December 2018 which was the deadline conveyed to all HEIs. Further, accreditation request will only be entertained on SAR under PEC Accreditation Manual- 2014 guidelines. The observations / concern / weak areas identified by the PEC visitation team in visit report must be addressed before applying for subsequent PEC visit. 6. NFC Institute of Engineering and B.Sc. Environmental Engineering Green Signal/Permission is granted to launch the program w.e.f. Fall- Technology, Multan 2016 and onwards. The intake must be restricted to 50 students per year. Observations of the visiting team must be addressed accordingly for onward verification during interim visit by PEC in the 2nd Year (2018), particularly Labs development, faculty Hiring and other associated resources teaching-learning aids required for the next 2-3 years. 3 S# Name of University/Institution Engineering Program(s) Decision of EA&QEC/EAB 7. NFC Institute of Engineering and B.Sc. Energy Systems Engineering Green Signal/Permission is granted to launch the program w.e.f. Fall- Technology, Multan 2016 and onwards. The intake must be restricted to 50 students per year. Observations of the visiting team must be addressed accordingly for onward verification during interim visit by PEC in the 2nd Year (2018), particularly Labs development, faculty hiring and other associated resources teaching-learning aids required for the next 2-3 years. 8. Punjab Institute of Contemporary B.Sc. Electrical Engineering Based on verification visit in light of 74th EA&QEC/EAB decision, Sciences, Lahore (affiliated with the Green Signal/Permission is granted to launch the program w.e.f. Fall- University of Punjab, Lahore) 2015 and onwards. The intake must be restricted to 40 students per year. Following observations of the visting team must be addressed and compliance be submitted to the PEC within six weeks:- a. Up gradation of Physics Lab b. Further improvement in faculty offices particularly HoD office. c. Formatting of lab manuals as suggested by the team at the time of visitation. d. Further improvement of Electronic Workshop. The institute must also address all other observations as mentioned in the report accordingly for onward verification during interim visit by PEC in the 2nd year, particularly preparation of labs development, faculty hiring and other associated resources availability for next two years. 9. Punjab Institute of Contemporary B.Sc. Chemical Engineering Permission is granted to continue the program. Sciences, Lahore (affiliated with the University of Punjab, Lahore) However, the weak areas mentioned in the visit report must be addressed and compliance/progress report be submitted before subsequent visit request. 4 S# Name of University/Institution Engineering Program(s) Decision of EA&QEC/EAB 10. Quaid-e-Azam College of B.Sc. Mechanical Engineering Permission is granted to continue the program. Engineering and Technology, Sahiwal (UET, Lahore) The observations/concern/weak areas identified by the PEC visitation team in visit report must be addressed before applying for subsequent PEC visit. No application for accreditation will be accepted on AC-1 (Manual- 2007) after December 2018, which was the deadline conveyed to HEIs. Accreditation requests will only be entertained on SAR under PEC Accreditation Manual – 2014 guidelines. 11. The Superior College, Lahore B.Sc. Computer Engineering Green Signal/Permission is granted to launch the program w.e.f. Jan/Feb 2014 and onwards. The intake must be restricted to 40 students. Observations of the visiting team must be addressed accordingly for onward verification during interim visit by PEC in the 2nd year. 12. Times School of Engineering, B.Sc. Electrical Engineering Green Signal/Permission is granted to launch the program w.e.f. Fall- Multan (GC University, Lahore) 2014 and onwards. The intake must be restricted to 40 students per year. The institution is allowed to admit 5 extra students purely on merit with No Tuition fee. Observations of the visiting team must be addressed accordingly for onward verification during interim visit by PEC in the 2nd year. 13. University of Management and Bachelor of Science in Energy Green signal/Permission is granted to launch the program w.e.f Fall- Technology, Lahore Engineering 2015 an onwards. The intake must be restricted to 40 students per year. Observations of the visiting team must be addressed, accordingly for onward verification during interim visit by PEC in the 2nd Year, particularly preparation of labs development, faculty hiring and other associated resources availability for next two years. 5 S# Name of University/Institution Engineering Program(s) Decision of EA&QEC/EAB 14. COMSATS Institute of Information B.S. Mechanical Engineering Green Signal/Permission is granted to launch the program w.e.f. Fall- Technology, Islamabad (Wah 2018 and onwards. Campus) The intake must be restricted to 80 students per year in single entry. Observations of the visitation team must be addressed before next periodic visit. 15. University of Engineering B.Sc. Bio-Medical Engineering Due to serious non-compliance on the Zero Visit as well as the Technology, Lahore requirement for Interim Visit, program be stopped for further intake (Kala Shah Kaku Campus) Fall-2020. HoD must be PhD qualified in relevant area and registered with PEC in Biomedical Engineering, rest of the faculty be hired in relevant filed of Biomedical Engineering. The Compliance on the deficiencies and weak areas mentioned in visit report must be addressed by June 2020, failing to which students enrolled be shifted to other accredited program of a university as per PEC Policy to pursue further academic progression. 16. University of Engineering and B.Sc. Textile Engineering Green Signal/ Permission is granted to launch the program w.e.f Fall- Technology (Faisalabad Campus) 2017 and onwards. The Intake must be restricted to 50 students per year. Observations of the visitation team must be addressed. 17. University of Engineering and B.Sc. Bio-Medical Engineering Green Signal/Permission is granted to launch the program w.e.f. Fall- Technology, Lahore (Narowal 2017 and onwards. However, a confirmatory visit shall be required Campus) to be conducted after six months to see necessary compliance on the prevailing PEC criteria, particularly regarding concerns shown for labs and faculty, as identified in the visit report. Methodology/Approach: A quantitative approach followed by survey research design was opted to complete the study on the competencies which are needed by library professionals for the implementation of Information Technology (IT) in the university library of Lahore, Pakistan. A total of 120 questionnaires were distributed among university librarians of Lahore. All questionnaires were sent through emails. 91 duly filled questionnaires were received by the researchers from the respondents. The response rate was 75.83%. Research limitation (s): This study is limited to the university library of Lahore, Pakistan. Key finding (s): Results of the study show that Librarians need IT skills for applying the latest technologies in their libraries.

Introduction Ranking provide complete picture to stakeholders like researchers, students, business community, parents, industry etc. to compare institutions according to different parameters of their need, such as Quality & Research etc. For the development and progress of any country, quality of higher education is the key factor. HEIs are considered to be the originators of change and progress of the nations. In order to strengthen the quality of higher education in Pakistan, Higher Education Commission (HEC) has taken various initiatives to bring the HEIs of Pakistan at par with international standards. Ranking is one of the measures to scale the success of efforts of the HEIs to achieve the international competitiveness in education, research and innovation. Rankings is a debatable subject all over the world, In spite of the difficulties associated in ranking. This is the 5th ranking of Pakistani Universities being announced by Higher Education Commission of Pakistan. Last four rankings for the year were announced in 2006, 2012, 2013 and 2015. Methodology The methodologies for ranking got improved over the period of time in the light of feedback received from HEIs and making HEC's ranking more compatible with global rankings. There is no change in the ranking criteria for the current year ( 2015 ) and criteria is the same which was used for ranking 2014.

ISSN 2289-9855 2015 EDUCATION AND COUNTERING VIOLENT EXTREMISM: A CASE STUDY OF SCHOOLS IN PAKISTAN Hussain Mohi-ud-Din Qadri Assistant Professor/Head, School of Economics, Faculty of Economics and Management Sciences, Minhaj University, Lahore [email protected] ABSTRACT There has been an increasing realization within the world community that uni-focal approach to deal with the menace of terrorism and violent extremism is not capable of delivering results as it just seeks to eradicate symptoms without necessarily trying to address the root causes that are at heart of mushroom growth of the problem. It is a battle of hearts and minds then anything else. This paper at hand explores the role of education in combating the violent extremism by using Pakistani education system as a case study. It undertakes a historical perspective of growth of the educational sector in Pakistan by delving deep into pre-partition system. The paper also shows why education has failed to cure the malaise and what can be done to render it into a force for eradication of violence based ideology. In order to present the authenticity and effectiveness of education to counter extremism, the writer also has thrown light on the three phase educational reforms movement in Indo-Pak Sub-continent’s history and it’s after effects. The paper recommends the measures to make the imparting of education a meaningful and productive process aimed at combating violent extremism.
