La formazione vede il cantante, produttore e pluripremiato compositore di colonne sonore Lorenzo Esposito Fornasari (a.k.a LEF) alla voce e Carmelo Pipitone dei Marta sui Tubi alla chitarra; alla batteria e al basso, rispettivamente, Pat Mastelotto dei King Crimson e Colin Edwin dei Porcupine Tree, mostri sacri del rock internazionale ed entrambi compagni di band di Gavin Harrison. Scritto durante il tour europeo a supporto del secondo album, "Soul of an Octopus" (2017), Ramagehead è il frutto della visione collettiva della band e di univoche influenze musicali, e riflesso su più livelli della loro potente e coinvolgente esperienza nel live. Il risultato del lavoro contiene tutti gli ingredienti delle più infuocate performance degli O.R.k., con intrecci di riff scuri e pesanti, atmosfere ipnotiche e testi che rivelano il senso di disorientamento proprio del vivere moderno, in un mondo sovraccarico di informazioni, dominato da insicurezze e dalla c.d. post-verità. Blackfield – Open Mind: The Best Of Blackfield (58:20, CD, Vinyl, Digital, KScope/Edel, 2018) An dieser Stelle soll nicht das Für und Wider von „Best Of“‘- Compilations diskutiert werden. Fakt ist, dass solche Releases eben nicht für den Fan gemacht sind, denn dieser hat sowieso schon alles von seinen angebeteten Stars, sondern für solche Klientel, denen die Hitvariante des jeweiligen Akteurs vollkommen ausreicht. Diese allerdings wirklich zum Kauf zu bewegen, ist in Zeiten von Spotify & Co. ein immer schwieriger werdendes Unterfangen. Nach fünf regulären Alben geht es aber schon okay, sich mit einer Werkschau zu präsentieren. Von Porcupine Tree-Fans wurde das Sideproject von Steven Wilson, das dieser seit 2001 mit dem israelischen Musiker Aviv Geffen betrieb, immer reichlich stiefmütterlich behandelt. Und dies, weil die Songs und die Musik an sich schon tendenziell unter Pop rangieren – Pop, mit dem für Wilson und Geffen so typisch-perfekten Songwriting wohlgemerkt. „Open Mind“ enthält dann auch eine respektable Auswahl aus den von 2004 bis 2017 veröffentlichten Originalalben, wobei gewichtungstechnisch vor allen das Debüt sowie das 2017er Werk „V“ mit jeweils vier Songs gesteigerte Berücksichtigung findet.
