    Live Among the White Trash: A history of nono----manman on stage “There are no No-Man concerts scheduled for the foreseeable future.” (from the official no-man website) Anyone who has followed no-man’s career over the previous ten years or so will be acutely aware that the band does not play live. If no-man “exist” as a band at all – and their infrequent releases mean they are more an ongoing understanding between two men rather than an active unit – it is only in the studio. Over a series of uncompromising albums no-man’s music has become ever more complex, yet ironically, “live sounding” than the release which proceeded it. But this organic “liveness” is mainly an illusion; the feeling of spontaneity often the result of numerous edits and takes which only the precision of studio work can produce. Others have tried to perform equally difficult music live: Radiohead ambitiously thrusting their clicks-and- cuts post-rock upon the world’s stadiums, for example. But for a variety of reasons, no-man simply haven’t tried – at least, not since 1994 and not until a one-off performance in 2006. The only comparable case is Talk Talk’s retreat into the studio in the late 1980s. Both bands have undoubtedly crafted their best work without going near an audience. 1 But it wasn’t always so. no-man were once very much a live act, promoting singles and albums with dates and undertaking two full-blown tours – though they rarely played outside London, never went further north than Newcastle, and never played outside Great Britain.

La Brea Avenue ∙ Los Angeles, CA 90036 ∙ Tel (323) 938-5222 ∙ www.jackrutbergfinearts.com FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Jack Rutberg (323) 938-5222 [email protected] June 13 – September 30, 2015 Reflections Through Time Los Angeles, CA – Celebrated L.A. contemporary artist Ruth Weisberg is the subject of a new exhibition entitled “Ruth Weisberg: Reflections Through Time,” opening with a reception for the artist from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 13, at Jack Rutberg Fine Arts, located at 357 North La Brea Avenue in Los Angeles. The exhibition extends through September 30. “Ruth Weisberg: Reflections Through Time” expands upon the recent Weisberg exhibition at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, presented on the occasion of receiving the prestigious 2015 Printmaker Emeritus Award from the Southern Graphics Council, the largest international body of “Waterbourne,” 1973, Lithograph, 30 1/4 x 42 1/4 Inches printmakers in North America. (The SGC’s previous awardee, in 2014, was Wayne Thiebaud.) Included in “Reflections Through Time” are selected works, such as Weisberg’s iconic “Waterbourne” (1973). Here the artist joins both symbolic and literal reflections of light, and in this case, a personal passage of impending motherhood and the emergence of woman. Other works in the exhibition, including her most recent work “Harbor” (2015), engage reflections on personal history and of the convergence of art history and cultural experience. “Reflections Through Time” reveals Weisberg’s decades-long interest in re-imagining the works of past masters such as Velazquez, Watteau, Blake, Titian, Veronese, Cagnacci, Corot, and Giacometti.

Som huvudsaklig låtskrivare och producent i rockbandet Tame Impala har han skapat sig ett ”signature sound”. Eftersom många gillar hur Parkers trummor låter har det förts långa diskussioner angående produktionsprocessen. Uppsatsen ämnade att ta reda på hur Parkers produktion sett ut och vilka ljudliga artefakter det är som utgör hans sound. Resultatet visar på en väldigt nedskalad inspelning. Ofta med ett enkelt vintage-trumkit och tre till fyra mikrofoner, dämpade skinn samt en hel del kompression och distorsion. Soundet kan beskrivas som väldigt energiskt, mycket tack vare just hård kompression och distorsion. Parkers sound känns igen även utanför Tame Impala. Trummorna upplevs i många fall som mycket mer än bara ett rytminstrument. Uppsatsen förklarar hur okonventionella produktionsprocesser kan ge upphov till originella ljudliga karaktärer, vilket i slutändan kan anses en positiv konsekvens.     Steven Wilson, 17.07.18, Bonn, Kunst!Rasen Der Prince of PopProg als (teils) übellauniger Bademeister »You look wet!« Was die Galligkeit seiner Ansagen angeht, ist Steven Wilson offensichtlich bei seinem Storm Corrosion-Buddy Mikael Akerfeldt in die Lehre gegangen. Allerdings ohne die Leichtigkeit von dessen Humor kopieren zu können. Apropos Sturm und Unwetter: ein solches hatte sich unbemerkt von wetter.de und Regenradar an den Kunst!Rasen angeschlichen und alle frühzeitig Erschienenen einmal gründlich gebadet. Bis der Regen dann nachließ. Nicht nur der ausnahmsweise mal mit dem Fahrrad entlang des Rheins angereiste Autor war – wie man sagen könnte – wet to the bone, ein anderer Betreuer ließ sich von den kurzzeitig wahrnehmbaren Blitzen und Donner sogar leider komplett in die Flucht schlagen.     STEVEN WILSON – To The Bone Tour – Berlin, Tempodrom – 05. Februar 2019 - Text und Fotos: Holger Ott STEVEN WILSON, ein recht unscheinbarer Typ mit einem ebenso unscheinbaren Namen. Dennoch steckt hinter dieser kleinen hageren Gestalt ein absolut musikalisches Genie. Ein Mann, der in der Perfektion aufgeht und inzwischen seine Finger fast überall im Spiel hat, was progressive Musik angeht. Er ist in erster Linie Musiker, singt, spielt Gitarre und Keyboard, ist aber auch Produzent, gelernter Toningenieur und in den letzten Jahren der 'Master Of Remaster'. Aufgrund seiner akribischen Genauigkeit wurde er unter anderem von IAN ANDERSON (JETHRO TULL) angeheuert, um dessen gesamten Backkatalog zu überarbeiten. WILSON hat also mehr als genug Arbeit am Hacken. Trotzdem hat er noch genügend Zeit, um alle paar Jahre ein eigenes Album auf den Markt zu werfen. Letztes war 'To The Bone', unter dessen Name er seit einem Jahr tourt. Da er damit in 2018 überaus erfolgreich war, hat WILSON beschlossen, noch ein paar Termine in diesem Jahr nachzuschieben. Somit haben MIKE und ich die Gelegenheit, ihn mit seiner herausragenden Band im Berliner Tempodrom zu erleben. STEVEN WILSON spielt wieder ohne Vorprogramm. Seine Show ist so umfangreich, dass er gut darauf verzichten kann. Rund drei Stunden erwarten uns mit einer Auswahl seiner besten und bekanntesten Werke aus der PORCUPINE TREE- Ära und seiner letzten Solo Veröffentlichungen. Für meine Begriffe schwächelt 'To The Bone' ein wenig. Es mangelt mir an mitreißenden Momenten, wie sie noch auf 'The Raven That Refused To Sing' und 'Hand. Cannot. Erased.' vorhanden waren. Diese CDs kann man als Hörer in einem Stück verschlingen.
