We presented the concept of an outdoor prog festival and everybody thought this was an excellent idea. The missing link was found when the director of the Openlucht Theater Valkenburg approached the Muziekgieterij to discuss possible show options for their beautiful venue. We all went to visit the location and were immediately blown away by the spectacular scenery. From this point, the festival plan came to life and with 3 14:00 - 14:45 Galigula’s Horse Caligula’s Horse offers devotees of all strains of powerful and progressive music something unique. 2015 saw the band release their third record “Bloom”, their most vivid, vibrant, and emotional work ≥ to date, melding the group’s penchant for dramatic colour with the high-energy musical drive the band has become known for across the world. The band has just announced the release of their new concept album 'In Contact' for 15th September 2017. 4 15:30 - 16:30 Iamthemorning Formed in 2010 in St Petersburg Russia, Iamthemorning features pianist Gleb Kolyadin and the charismatic vocals of Marjana Semkina. After signing with the recordlabel Kscope, they released Belighted, their fi rst record for the label in September 2014. In 2016 their new album 'Lighthouse' won the highly acclaimed ALBUM OF THE YEAR award at the prestigious PROG awards in London. Featuring on the album are guests like Gavin Harrison, Colin Edwin and Mariusz Duda. The album is recorded with help of Marcel van Limbeek (Tori Amos sound ≥engineer). 5 17:15 - 18:45 Pain of Salvation Pain of Salvation is known far and wide as one of the most vital bands in the resurgence of progressive music. Boasting incredible musicianship, a wide variety of infl uences, and a darkly poetic approach; µ Pain of Salvation has a reputation for being unpredictable, outside the box, and willing to experiment with styles. The band's latest release (early this year) is called 'In the Passing Light of Day' and it marks a return to the band's more heavy approach from the early years. The album is also a very personal album because it handles about the time (3 years ago) when the founding member Daniel Gildenlöw was hospitalised for many months because of a fl esh eating bacteria. It was a life threatening affair but luckily he came out alive. Recently also Johan Hallgren returned to take on the guitar duties again. 6 19:30 - 21:00 Gazpacho Gazpacho completely defy genre clas- sifi cation – they were once described as being “classical post ambient nocturnal atmospheric neo-progressive folk world rock”. Over the years the band delivered one highly acclaimed album after another. The most recent one is 'Molok'. ‘Molok’ the follow up to their acclaimed 2014 album Demon sees the band continue to push the boundaries for creating the most complicated and strangest concepts for a record.     Darkwater – Human (78:09, CD, Doppel-Vinyl und digital, Ulterium Reccords, 2019), Mit „Human“ stellt ein weiterer Vertreter des progressiven Metals, zu Beginn des neuen Jahres, ein neues Album vor. Gegründet 2003, veröffentlichen die Schweden Darkwater nach „Calling the Earth to Witness“ (2007) und „Where Stories End“ (2010) bereits ihr drittes Werk. Auch wenn diese Musikrichtung nicht unbedingt jedermanns Geschmack sein wird, so ist doch neidlos anzuerkennen, dass „Human“ etwas hat. Und zwar eine Menge in die Ohren gehende Melodien, die einen nicht mehr so schnell loslassen. Man könnte diese fast schon als mainstreamige, metallische Ohrwürmer bezeichnen. Es ist aber gerade diese melodische Art, die „Human“ prägt und sympathisch macht. Neben den obligatorischen härteren Gitarrenparts, finden sich selbstverständlich auch die typischen Breaks, Tempowechsel, druckvolle Perkussionsarbeit und Wechsel in der Rhythmik auf dem Album wieder. Aber nicht nur das steht für eine gelungene progressive Metalveröffentlichung. Es ist die ausgewogene Integration aller musikalischer Elemente, in die zum Teil komplexeren Songstrukturen, die gerade in diesem Fall das Besondere ausmachen. Druckvoll, atmosphärisch, harmonisch mit breiten Keyboardteppichen unterlegt, dazwischen mal akustisch und dann wieder heftig zuschlagend, das ist „Human“. Dazu, über all dem stehend, der gute und vor allem stimmige Gesang vonHenrik Båth, nicht zu aufdringlich aber doch immer präsent, der letztendlich das Gesamtbild des Albums harmonisch abrundet.     Blackfield – Open Mind: The Best Of Blackfield (58:20, CD, Vinyl, Digital, KScope/Edel, 2018) An dieser Stelle soll nicht das Für und Wider von „Best Of“‘- Compilations diskutiert werden. Fakt ist, dass solche Releases eben nicht für den Fan gemacht sind, denn dieser hat sowieso schon alles von seinen angebeteten Stars, sondern für solche Klientel, denen die Hitvariante des jeweiligen Akteurs vollkommen ausreicht. Diese allerdings wirklich zum Kauf zu bewegen, ist in Zeiten von Spotify & Co. ein immer schwieriger werdendes Unterfangen. Nach fünf regulären Alben geht es aber schon okay, sich mit einer Werkschau zu präsentieren. Von Porcupine Tree-Fans wurde das Sideproject von Steven Wilson, das dieser seit 2001 mit dem israelischen Musiker Aviv Geffen betrieb, immer reichlich stiefmütterlich behandelt. Und dies, weil die Songs und die Musik an sich schon tendenziell unter Pop rangieren – Pop, mit dem für Wilson und Geffen so typisch-perfekten Songwriting wohlgemerkt. „Open Mind“ enthält dann auch eine respektable Auswahl aus den von 2004 bis 2017 veröffentlichten Originalalben, wobei gewichtungstechnisch vor allen das Debüt sowie das 2017er Werk „V“ mit jeweils vier Songs gesteigerte Berücksichtigung findet. Nah!« In July 2016 Century Media released a special reissue version of Pain of Salvation‘s classic 2002 album “Remedy Lane” entitled “Remedy Lane Re:visited (Re:mixed & Re:lived)” via InsideOut Music. Furthermore the band is working on a new studio album called “In The Passing Light Of Day”. BetreutesProggen.de took the chance and asked bandleader Daniel Gildenlöw for more details (deutschsprachige Version des Interviews). Daniel Gildenlöw, 2016 is a stirring year. You have spent a lot of time working in the studio. Your long-time label- partner InsideOut published your album “Remedy Lane Re:visited (Re:mixed & Re:lived)“ on July 1st. And the reactions are very positive. How does it feel? It feels very good. I had a good feeling about this year. As some of my fans (who follow me on Facebook) know, I named this year Garbo. I simply came to the conclusion that years need to be named, baptized. More so than many other things we choose to baptize in the modern world, I’d say. Haha. Well, in any case, Garbo is strict but just. We have this thing going, me and her. We have an understanding. (laughs) You summarized the background of this re-mix project as follows: “Jens Bogren, aka Fascination Street Studios, approached us a few years after the release of “Remedy Lane“, saying he was a fan of the band and kindly offered his services. He was later involved in “BE” and “Scarsick“, but always in the periphery, since we were taking new directions in our sound and production by then.

    Sweden ARTROCK ArtRock Sweden 2010 En årskrönika Året 2010 präglades av ett intensivt musikliv där konserter och spelningar verkar finnas i en allt större omfattning. I de mer folkrika städerna kan man ju i princip finna något att se/höra var dag i veckan. Konkurrensen om dess publik blir då naturligtvis även den hårdare, många som vågar (en eloge till er) får också svårare att få det gå ihop ekonomiskt men eldsjälarna verkar aldrig ge sig tack och lov. Det har blivit en hel del konsertrapporter och recensioner 2010 på ArtRock och ett stort tack till er skribenter som gett oss dessa. Sweden Rock Festival Norje, Sölvesborg 9-12 Juni 2010 Med över 250 albumrecensioner det gångna året har vi förhoppningsvis gett musikbranschen och er läsare så många bra och Text: Ulf Classon objektiva bedömningar eller tyckande som möjligt och naturligtvis massor med tips på kvalitativa plattor. Foto: Conny Myrberg Betyg: ett sattyg enligt mitt sett att se det hela men båda band och promotors verkar föredra det så … vi kör vidare på den in- slagna linjen. Ibland tenderar det gå inflation i höga poäng och 2010 har vi möjligen varit väl givmilda men samtidigt poängterar Trött, sliten och glad sjunker jag ner i soffan där hemma. Ännu ett besök på Sweden Rock Festival kan läggas till handlingarna och nu är här skribenterna sitt gillande och ni som känner till deras personliga smak kan lugnt införskaffa skivan i fråga. Här presenteras jag mest sugen på att ta igen förlorad sömn och få upp värmen i kroppen än att dricka öl ur plastflaska och kolla på konserter.
