It became the second Post Top 10 hit, matching the performance of his first hit in 1976, Theme from the Rockford Files. The song is also on the UK charts (No 25). You can help Wikipedia by expanding it.vte Received from (theme) oldid'982801875 Mike Post is one of the most prolific and successful writers of television themes, and he's already had a Top 10 hit under his belt with his theme for The Rockford Files when Stephen Bochco asked him to write a theme for his new inner-city police drama Hill Street Blues. In an interview with the Archive of American Television, The Post explained that when he showed the show with Bochco and discussed the music, they decided to abandon the typical hard-driving, street sound that was typical of this kind of show in favor of something more poignant but not too sentimental. This will play the more human aspects of the show, letting the viewer know that there will be a lot of emotion to go along with the scenes of the chase and other police activities. The message went home and wrote the song in the E apartment on this piano in about 30 minutes. When him on the phone to Bochco, they both knew they were the winner. The Hill Street Blues lasted seven seasons on NBC, and the full long version of the song became a hit for the Post when it was released in 1981, during the show's first season. Television is a universally popular medium that offers a myriad of choices to viewers around the world. American programs both reflect and influence the culture of the times. Two dramatic series, The Closer and Saving Grace, were presented on the same cable network and shared genre and design. Both featured female police detectives and demonstrated an acute awareness of postmodern feminism. The Closer was very successful, yet Saving Grace, was cancelled midway through the third season. A close study of plot lines and character development in the shows will elucidate their fundamental differences that serve to explain their widely disparate reception by the viewing public.     STEPHEN J. CANNELL, 1941-2010 Stephen J(oseph) Cannell was born February 5, 1941 to Joseph Cannell, a Pasadena, California entrepreneur. Cannell struggled through his early school years, flunking three different grades of elementary, junior or senior high school, and regularly failing his English classes. Years later, when having one of his own children tested for dyslexia, he discovered that he had suffered from it his entire life. Never the less, he had a passionate love for writing, despite his difficulties with the written word, and set a goal for himself to become a best-selling author. After attending the University of Oregon on a football scholarship and meeting creative writing teachers that bolstered his confidence, Cannell married his high school sweetheart and went to work for his family’s business – driving a furniture truck all day. In the evenings, he set a rigorous writing schedule for himself – writing 5 hours a day, 7 days a week, on spec. He decided that his target market would be the burgeoning television scene, and after 6 years without a sale, he finally sold a script – to the series Ironside. After a few more sales, he caught the eye of the legendary writer/producer Jack Webb, who first hired him to be story editor and ultimately head writer for Adam-12. Cannell was contracted to Universal Television, writing and producing shows for that studio during the early-to-mid 1970s. While there, he produced Chase and wrote for and produced Toma, about real-life New York City detective David Toma. While producing Toma, Cannell and his mentor Roy Huggins (creator of Maverick, and many other tv series) wrote an episode that ended up getting rewritten to serve as a pilot for a series about an unorthodox Southern California P.I.

In many respects, the popular 1960's television series, The Fugitive perfectly captured the swelling disillusionment with authority, alienation, and discontent that soon encompassed American society. This historical/critical study provides a broad overview of the economic, social, and political climate that surrounded the creation of The Fugitive. The primary focus of this study is the analysis of five discursive topics (individualism, marriage, justice & authority, professionalism, science and technology) within selected episodes and to show how they relate to broader cultural debates which occurred at that time. Finally, this study argues that The Fui1gitive is a part of a television adventure subgenre which we may classify as the contemporary "wanderer-hero" narrative and traces its evolution through selected television series from the last three decades.     ARTIMISI, ANTHONY B., D.M.A. The Study of Jeff Porcaro's Musical Style and the Development of an Analytical Model for the Study of Drum Set Style in Popular Music. (2011) Directed by Dr. David Nelson and Dr. Kristopher Keeton. 206 pp. Jeffrey Thomas Porcaro was one of the preeminent drummers from the middle of the 1970‘s through his untimely passing on August 5, 1992. He was a founding member of the Grammy Award winning band, Toto, and the list of albums on which his drumming appears includes six hundred ninety-three entries. His willingness to help others and commitment to excellence made a lasting impact on the drumming community and the music industry as a whole. The goal of this research was to complete an analysis of Porcaro‘s drumming style. In order to accomplish this goal, a model was developed that allowed for the analysis of drum set performance based on Robert Breithaupt‘s article entitled ―Musical Considerations for Drumset Improvisation.‖ This article identified nine strategies teachers can use with young students regarding drum set improvisation. Seven of these strategies were used to form a comparative analytical model of musical elements which created a summary of drumming style implemented on Jeff Porcaro for the purposes of this paper: Dynamics, Rate of Strokes, Accents, Rests and Rhythmic Figures, Unisons, Hand-to-Foot Distribution and Special Effects. Porcaro‘s peers and colleagues identified six songs as being representative of his drumming: Boz Scaggs‘s ―Lowdown,‖ ―Lido Shuffle,‖ ―Gimme the Goods‖ and ―Jojo,‖ Steely Dan‘s ―Gaucho,‖ and Toto‘s ―Rosanna.‖ The analytical model applied to the choruses of these songs shows that Porcaro manipulated the different musical elements in a variety of way in order to build to a musical peak during the final chorus of each song.
