Russell Primary School (From the desk of Mr. Cassity) RPS had a fun week with all of our school spirit themed days. Although our attendance was down a little due to sickness, we had an exciting week. Thanks to our PTA for providing the Attendance Store, as well as sno cones and popcorn for classes with 97 or above attendance for the week!! Pre-k and Kindergarten teachers got together this week to begin a collaborative effort towards smoother transitions in the months and years to come. Another great week!!!

Russell-McDowell Intermediate (From the desk of Mrs. Wright)  Our test scores for our schools and our district are AWESOME!  Harper Grizzle won the RMIS Spelling Bee and was a super representative for our school with a 2nd place finish at the Greenup Old Fashion Days Spelling Bee!  Our 4th and 5th grade students attended Greenup Old Fashion Days and danced the Virginia Reel on the streets of downtown Greenup. They also visited the courthouse and listened to community leaders talk about careers.  We honored our students of the month with a trip to Chick-fil-A. Congratulations to Josh Perkins, Caleb Pruitt and Jaden Skeens!

It has been SUPER WEEK at RMS

 Mr. Casto provided for the first time ever the PSAT for Eighth Graders. We had over 30 students take the test.  We got Spirit, Yes we do! -RMS Students and Faculty/Staff enjoyed the Homecoming themes. Ton of involvement in dress up days and parade.  Sixth Grade Girls Basketball-dominated the competition-Congratulations to Coach J and the girls on an undefeated season!  Celebrated our Custodians this week for National Custodian Day. Thank you Mr. Deere, Mrs. Potter, Mr. Crites and Mr. Deere for all you do.  Finally best of luck to Mrs. Epling we will miss you.

Russell High School (From the desk of Mrs. Chaffin)  RHS ranked 13th/228 high schools on KPREP testing. We are a DISTINGUISHED/PROGRESSING-SCHOOL OF DISTINCTION/HIGH PROGRESS SCHOOL GREAT JOB EVERYONE!!  Homecoming Parade and Bonfire was a huge success.

 ROTC cadets served our community at the Community Kitchen and Clothes Closet  Nathan Colt was nominated as a Beacon’s Best sponsored by the Greenup Beacon.  Heather Short and Jamie Nance were nominated as RHS Students of the Week.  Choirs and Orchestra performed at Greenup Old Fashion Days.

Russell Area Technology Center (From the desk of Mr. Trimble) We had a very productive and positive week here at RATC. We appreciate our teachers working hard to bring awesome learning opportunities into our building. Some of these included:

 Mr. Gibbs, of Ashland Alliance, visited Mrs. Phipps and Mrs. Wilburn’s classes on Tuesday. This was a great opportunity for them to see a different perspective on business and marketing.  Mr. Whitt visited our business law classes this week to share his experiences as a lawyer and to bring them real-life examples they can apply to what they are learning each day.  Dr. Gilliland visited Ms. Layne’s sports medicine class this week to share with them experiences from his time working in the field.  We had the community leadership development team visit RATC to learn more about the process we use in preparing our students for success in the future. It was awesome having these very dedicated and excited community members, and we were thankful to lead into some opportunities for partnerships as we move forward.  Our FBLA numbers have continued to grow. Our membership drive just completed with over 65 students involved in this organization.

Russell Preschool Program (From the desk of Mrs. Staton) We have new students starting on Monday!! Mrs. Moore is SUPER Excited for her students to start! We have just finished learning about fall and the changes that come with the season. We will be starting a fall harvest unit, investigating apples and pumpkins. This will culminate in a trip to Imel's pumpkin farm.

What’s happening at central office / district this week?  October Regular Board of Education Meeting—October 26, 2015--6:00 PM in the RHS Library. This is an open meeting and a great opportunity to learn what is going on in the district. Great leadership opportunity!
