Western Cape Process Controllers awarded with certificates of excellence

Ms Saskia Langner from Breede Valley Municipality was presented with a special Woman in Water Care Award during the Awards Ceremony for Water Care and Wastewater Process Controllers of Municipalities in the Western Cape.

The ceremony was hosted by the Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) in partnership with Water Institute of South Africa (WISA).

The Awards Ceremony was held in a bid to acknowledge the commendable work done by process controllers and the respective municipalities to ensure sustainability and protection of water resources, and to also provide safe drinking water to the community.

Director of Waste Water Services Regulation from DWS, Ms Mmakgang Enele and the head of Process Controllers Division Western Cape Province, Mr Dewald van Staden addressed municipal delegates about the plant and process controller classifications on the IRIS system. Different specialists in the Water Sector also informed the delegates about finding possible solutions to their daily challenges at their respective plants.

Ms Hene Debbie, Director of Water Services Regulation gave a keynote address and encouraged Process Controllers who did not receive awards to continue to do their work diligently and maintain a selfless working ethos.

The following first position winners in different categories were presented:

 Best Water Care Works Laboratory (on-site operational monitoring)- Wellington laboratory ,Drakenstein Municipality  Best Internal Laboratory (operational and compliance monitoring)- Breede Valley Laboratory, Breede Valley Municipality  Best Water Treatment Works <10ml/day- Friemersheim WWTW, Mossel Bay Municipality  Best Water Treatment Works >10ml/day- Wemmershoek Water Scheme, City of Cape Town Municipality  Best Wastewater Pond System- Herolds Bay WWTW, George Municipality  Best Wastewater Treatment Works: < 5ml/day- Klapmuts WWTW, Stellenbosch Municipality  Best Wastewater Treatment Works: 5-10ml/day- Wesfleur WWTW, City of Cape Town Municipality  Best Wastewater treatment Works >10ml/day- Stellenbosh WWTW, Stellenbosch Municipality
