Βασίλειος KATENDE (Tεχνικός ) Σελιδοποιός i | Page Preface About the physiognomy of the Orthodox Missionary Churches around the world , and indeed, about the physiognomy of the Orthodox Church in the African countries South of the Sahara, a lot of characteristics have been written about them in the related mission Journals. In them, however, information about the developing Orthodox Church in Uganda is missing though it is that very country that provoked the Orthodox Mission in Africa… The present volume (in icons) presents to the readers one concrete problem: The Orthodox Church in Uganda germinated from innumerable difficulties! What is remaining now? What will follow afterwards? How will it continue with its existence and its survival, amidst the contemporary political and economical changes in the universe? How will this Church in Uganda support itself and develop from here and beyond? From this immediate problem that we were faced with, we were urged to edit this brief informative volume. This volume comprises of one of our proposed offer motion not only to the poor faithful who have until now contributed to activating this Church, but also to the rich who totally doubted the becoming efforts from the natives of Uganda. During the more critical period of the struggle (1997-2012) the Orthodox Church stabilized in Uganda in 4 first regions of the country: Central (BUGANDA) with 4 peripheries Eastern (BUSOGA) with 2 peripheries Western (TORO) with 1 periphery Northern (LUO) with 2 peripheries The stabilization of the nine (9) peripheries in this period, was led by the invisible interventions of our Trinity, the ardent prayers of co-workers and the brotherly love of subscribers from all parts of the world who contributed the amount of US Dollars 6,863,707 (or EUROS 5,559,908) for the accomplishment of the work. The work covered the following sections: General essentials for the group Business accounts, mails/postages, stationeries Miscellaneous, visitors, fuel Vehicle maintenance, apparatus et cetera Priests allowances School fees for learning Youth Care for orphans Developing of Communities, Renovation – Construction Of Churches, Schools, Clinics et cetera Health care of patient In the distant villages The total of these nine peripheries are the initial Deaneries that comprise the present Holy Metropolis of Kampala and All Uganda and will gradually develop into dioceses! Besides, in the remaining regions of the country are found isolated persons or families and groups that invite us to construct new Orthodox Communities! This desired expansion of Orthodoxy in Uganda, will presuppose sufficient, internal or local spiritual and economical fermentations ii | Page Preface Διά την φυσιογνωμία των εμφανιζομένων ανά τόν κόσμο ιεραποστολικών Ορθοδόξων Εκκλησιών, και μάλιστα, δια τήν φυσιογνωμία της Ορθοδόξου Εκκλησίας στίς Αφρικανικές χώρες κάτω τής Σαχάρας, έχουν καταγραφεί πολλά χαρακτηριστικά στά σχετικά ιεραποστολικά Περιοδικά. SBH is concerned by the low rate of adopting boys relative to girls. There should be concerted efforts to cause a change in this pattern. We congratulate Livingstone and Evelyn Semakula on the successful wedding in the SBH family. We also thank all who got involved in the SBH Christmas Party and congratulate babies who received the Holy Sacrament of Baptism. Some SBH staff are traditionally given token appreciation awards. In the true sense of the word all workers in SBH indiscriminately deserve more good awards at a year end, in appreciation of their team work, commitment, dedication and sincerity. It is our request that more people of good will should donate to especially support this cause. SBH requires GOD’s providence in matters of funding development. There is a crisis in sourcing funding for development. Many funding agencies are (as a policy) not keen on financing development work of the cement and mortar type. They would rather support services, supplies, staffing, or items that are directly linked to the current betterment of orphaned children.
