The Trust is the incorporation of the School Behaviour and Attendance Partnership (SBAP) in North Ashfield. To date, the partnership between Ashfield School, Kirkby College, Quarrydale Academy and Sutton Community Academy has been extremely effective in lowering permanent exclusion rates and supporting young people at risk of permanent exclusion. However, our worN isn‘t exclusively about behaviour; we support students from a variety of backgrounds, and with a wide range of issues that often make access to mainstream education a challenging prospect. Our aim is to ensure that all young people in North Ashfield have the opportunity to access education and meet their potential. The partnership established the highly successful SPACE Learning Centre over four years ago, providing intervention and alternative education in North Ashfield. Since then, the work of the partnership has grown and we have recently opened a second centre to deliver a KS4 curriculum support programme. We are looking for staff who are passionate about young people and who possess the drive and determination to affect change in their lives. Applicants should be open to new ideas and challenges, and be able to adapt to the ever-changing needs of a dynamic and flexible learning environment. Initially, the post is advertised for one year. However, subject to funding arrangements there may be scope for it to become a permanent position. This will be discussed more fully to those candidates invited to interview. Yours faithfully Matt Morris Director North Ashfield Behaviour and Attendance Trust Learning Mentor Salary: Grade 3 Range 14-18 (16,231 ± 17,714) Contract: One-year Working pattern: Term Time Only Location: SPACE Learning Centre, Kirkby-in-Ashfield, NG17 7DT Closing Date: Friday 19th February 2016 Closing Time: 12 noon We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic individual who is passionate about helping children to remove the barriers to learning, raise their aspirations and help them achieve their full potential. Working in our dynamic centre for alternative provision, the Learning Mentor will be a role model for our students, and provide on-going intervention and support. 2ne of the primary responsiEilities of the Learning 0entor is to act as ”on call‘ support to teaching staff and to intervene as required. The successful candidate will work with their colleagues to devise strategies of support for individual students, and by putting the needs of the student first, will help them to develop the tools required to access their education. Alongside the pastoral role, the Learning Mentor will have the opportunity to develop provision for students based on an interest or area of expertise. Additionally, The Learning Mentor operates the KS4 minibus service to and from the centre. We welcome applications from experienced learning mentors or from those with other relevant experience of supporting young people from a range of backgrounds. This may prove an ideal opportunity to gain valuable professional experience prior to moving into teacher training. Visits to our centre are welcome. Closing Date: Friday 19th February Person Specification: Learning Mentor Qualification Criteria x Experience of working with young people from a variety of backgrounds x Suitably experienced to work with challenging behaviours in an educational environment x ICT confident and competent x Evidence of impact in education environments (desirable) x Holds a Full Driving License Experience x Experience of working with young people, ideally in an educational environment x Experience of mentoring/support work with young people including supporting challenging issues x Experience of developing resources and programmes of study x Experience of alternative provision environments (desirable) Knowledge and Understanding x Good knowledge and understanding of current issues within education Skills x Ability to deal with sensitive issues and disclosures of information in a professional manner x Able to adapt to difficult situations and circumstances x Able to de-escalate situations involving students x Excellent interpersonal skills x Values the education and personal development of every individual child x Committed to the development of young people from a range of backgrounds and social circumstances x Highly professional x Works well with others How To Apply Please complete and return the application form along with a brief introductory letter outlining your suitability.
