Police and schools in the city are committed to working together to protect our young people from becoming victims of knife and weapons crime. We use a range of tactics including educational inputs and in-school searches to ensure that students are well- informed about the consequences of carrying weapons, and identify those that continue to do so. It is important that the police, schools and families work together to protect young people. To do this, parents must be aware of the warning signs and talk to children about carrying weapons. The consequences of being found in possession of a knife are serious and long lasting, affecting education, employment and travel opportunities, but most crucially, life. Some young people carry weapons because they feel it will provide protection or increase the respect they are given by their friends, but the sad fact is that they are more likely to become victims of serious violence. Parents should also be aware that girls sometimes carry or store weapons for their boyfriends or other male friends because they believe they are less likely to be stopped by the police. Their reasons are often misguided loyalty or love, but it is still a crime if they are caught carrying a knife or other weapon. Introduction and Context Introduction 1.1 Warwick District Council is one of five district and borough councils within the county of Warwickshire. The district covers four towns; Leamington Spa, Warwick, Kenilworth and Whitnash, and numerous villages. The population served is almost 140,000. 1.2 In April 2012 the Council appointed Neil Allen Associates (NAA) to support them with delivering their vision of developing a long term strategy for the provision of indoor and built sports facilities within the district. The strategy will be used to guide the future provision and management of both new and existing indoor sports facilities in Warwick District in the context of national and regional policy and local sports development needs. 1.3 At the time of the NAA appointment a study of playing pitches was well-advanced by the Council and there was a desire for the indoor strategy to complement the emerging playing pitches strategy, in order to develop an overall strategy for indoor and outdoor sport across the district. This work subsequently stalled and has been picked up additionally by NAA as part of the process, thus ensuring an integrated approach will be developed.

    Making a mark: art, craft and design education 2008/11 This report evaluates the strengths and weaknesses of art, craft and design education in schools and colleges in England. It is based principally on subject inspections of 96 primary schools, 91 secondary schools and seven special schools between 2008 and 2011. This includes five visits in each phase to focus on an aspect of good practice. The report also draws on institutional inspections, 69 subject inspections in colleges, and visits to a sample of art galleries. Part A focuses on the key inspection findings in the context of the continued popularity of the subject with pupils and students. Part B considers how well the concerns about inclusion, creativity and drawing raised in Ofsted’s 2008 report, Drawing together: art, craft and design in schools, have been addressed. Having enjoyed a close victory against the team last year, the boys were looking to get their latest season off to a positive start. Conditions were absolutely glorious and perfect for the style of rugby that this group like to play. There were bright signs right from the word go and several of the boys looked dangerous with ball in hand.
