DZIBILCHALTUN & PROGRESO Dzibilchaltun “The Place of Writings on Stone” is a Mayan city located only 15 kilometers from Merida. Dzibilchaltun is one of the most impressive astronomical Mayan center where you will also see an underground river (cenote). We will visit the museum, the typical Mayan house, walk along the ecological path, lined with all the trees from the region, as well as the pyramids. The Temple of the Seven Dolls stands out from the rest, this is where each year on March 21 st the equinox gives a show; finally we will visit the natural well Xlacah. Our next stop will be to in the seaport of Progreso to enjoy the beautiful beaches and cooling breezes off the Gulf of Mexico, which are great for swimming. IZAMAL “The city of the hills” located just in the center of the Yucatan Peninsula could be the most ancient colonial city and also it is known as the “City of Three Cultures”, Izamal brings together elements of the pre­Hispanic, colonial and contemporary eras, where we can find five pyramids, the main of them is Kinich Kakmo, there are other buildings as the Rabit, Kabul and Itzamatul. Izamal is considered a colonial jewel because all the buildings are painted with the yellow color and its main attractive is the convent that was built over the Mayan pyramids using the stones of them for its construction. Its founder was Fray Diego de Landa, famous because he burned the Mayan codex. CELESTUN Located 96 km from Merida on the west of Yucatan, this port of fishermen, besides having crystalline beaches, Celestun is part of the world patrimony of the biosphere reserve by the same name. A route in boat to go to the ria allow us to discover the mangroves, the island of the birds, the lagoons of Valeosera and Quintin, in this reserve live armadillos, crocodiles, ocelot, turkeys, ducks and infinity of birds, the fresh water eyes and abundant vegetation, and you can see the main attraction that is the flamingos, also called pink flamingos. When we return, we will visit the Hacienda Tepic, now a restaurant, to enjoy its delicious food.
