Sabaragamuwa Province experienced very rapid development in the recent past especially in the health and education sectors. Also it is currently in the successive journey towards achieving global targets i.e. Sustainable Development Goals etc. The secret behind this scenario is not other than best practices of planning and decision making based on data and information. I assure that this publication will significantly contribute to communicate and share much data and information among policy makers, planners, researchers and any other parties those who are involving with decision making process. This publication dedicates a large array of data from different sources nevertheless could be used an input for creating valuable information. As we are well aware, data and information play a huge role in decision making process. It is a prerequisite for any aspect of planning process. It is acceptable fact that, data is just only raw material which representing of facts, concepts or instructions in a formalized manner. Information is considered to be the output from an information system, with data (raw, unprocessed, collected "facts”) being input. Understanding this fact, we as responsible agency for sub national level planning proudly present “Statistical Hand Book-2018”in compiling most important data required for decision making process. I believe that our effort will lead to enhance the capacity and capability of stakeholders those who are engaging in the development process in the capacity of planning, management and policy making.
