On behalf of the Sabaragamuwa Provincial Council, I take this opportunity to extend my congratulations on the new publication: “Statistical Hand Book-2018 “inaugurated by the Office of the Deputy Chief Secretary (Planning).

Sabaragamuwa Province experienced very rapid development in the recent past especially in the health and education sectors. Also it is currently in the successive journey towards achieving global targets i.e. Sustainable Development Goals etc. The secret behind this scenario is not other than best practices of planning and decision making based on data and information.

I assure that this publication will significantly contribute to communicate and share much data and information among policy makers, planners, researchers and any other parties those who are involving with decision making process.

It is acceptable fact that, data is just only raw material which representing of facts, concepts or instructions in a formalized manner. Information is considered to be the output from an information system, with data (raw, unprocessed, collected "facts”) being input.
