Frieze NYC 2018 Press Release
! Dastan is pleased to announce its participation in Frieze Art Fair New York 2018 with a presentation of works by Ardeshir Mohassess. The presentation will consist of a number of Mohassess’ drawings from the 1970s. Dastan has recently compiled and published a bilingual (Farsi/English) book incorporating the results of 3 years of research into the life and works of the artist, which will also be included in the presentation. Coming ten years after the Ardeshir Mohassess Retrospective in Asia Society Museum curated by Shirin Neshat and Nicky Nodjoumi, the presentation will seek to approach the artist’s work through the lens of New Historicism, while exploring it in relation to the power structure and society of different periods and reveal their evolutions. Traces of the artist's practice can still be found in the works of Iranian artists inside and outside Iran. The works in the presentation are selected from two of the artist’s series, “Vaqaye Etefaqie” (lit. ‘Current Events’) and “Shenasnameh” (lit. ‘Identity Card’). Ardeshir’s “Vaqaye Etefaqie” (1970-1971) uses states-people and aristocrats as subject matter and portrays them in their lavish lifestyles and pointless accomplishments. On the other hand, “Shenasnameh” (1972) presents a world of Ardeshir’s frail figures, broken and tortured under cruelty and oppression. When viewed together, these two series depict a picture of the era’s socio-political landscape —a turmoil that arguably reached its boiling point in the form of the 1979 revolution. In the words of the late Iranian poet, writer and journalist, Ahmad Shamlu (1925-2000), “Ardeshir’s typical human beings, i.e. -

The benefits for living donor recipients and the relative low risk of physical complications for donors have been well documented. The risks of impaired quality of life and particularly symptoms of chronic fatigue, however, remain less well understood and dampen the enthusiasm of living kidney donor outcomes. Material and Methods: We hypothesized that left-sided donor nephrectomy predisposes donors to symptoms of chronic fatigue due to impairment of blood supply of the left adrenal gland. We retrospectively analyzed 356 living kidney donors undergoing nephrectomy from 1998 to 2013, and aimed to address the impact of donation on physical health and quality of life using the standardized short form-8 questionnaire (SF-8). In addition, we prospectively followed 27 living kidney donors 2014/2015 for symptoms of chronic fatigue. Morning cortisol and ACTH levels were performed at baseline, in the first week, and +6 months post donation. -

Imes Alumni Newsletter
IMES ALUMNI NEWSLETTER 2015 Winter 6, Issue From the Head of IMES By Anthony Gorman Welcome again to the latest IMES Alumni Newsletter! As usual, this winter issue provides details of the IMES MSc and PhD graduations last November, always an emotional occasion for the department as well as for the graduating students themselves. The last months have been busy in the department with many enjoyable academic and social occasions. The Watt event in October which marked the 50th anniversary of Montgomery Watt’s inaugural lecture as Professor of Islamic Studies at Edinburgh stands out as a particularly memorable occasion marked by an impressive evening of lectures and a symposium the following day. Other highlights were a short series of seminars on Shi’ism (part of the larger IMES Research seminar series) as well as the programme of the Alwaleed Centre. As usual we feature a number of contributions from current and former students as well as coverage of the social activities of the postgraduate student body. One particularly impressive feature is the translation - into English and Slovene - of the poetry of Ashraf Fayadh by our PhD student Jona Fras. The History of IMES column is also dedicated to the student presence in the department. Since I have recently stepped down as Head of IMES I will also be vacating the post of Editor of the Newsletter. My thanks to all that have contributed to its production over the last three years, Professor especially to a series of fine Assistant Editors, Emese Lorencsics, Fayaz Alibhai, Farshed Kazemi Carole and, for her very capable work on this issue, Hester Gartrell. -
Vodič Kroz Program 45. FEST 2017 Preuzmite

GLOBAL DIVERSITIES Internal Diversity Iranian Germans Between Local Boundaries and Transnational Capital Sonja Moghaddari mpimmg Global Diversities Series Editors Steven Vertovec Department of Socio-Cultural Diversity Max Planck Institute for the Study of Religious and Ethnic Diversity Göttingen, Germany Peter van der Veer Department of Religious Diversity Max Planck Institute for the Study of Religious and Ethnic Diversity Göttingen, Germany Ayelet Shachar Department of Ethics, Law, and Politics Max Planck Institute for the Study of Religious and Ethnic Diversity Göttingen, Germany Over the past decade, the concept of ‘diversity’ has gained a leading place in academic thought, business practice, politics and public policy across the world. However, local conditions and meanings of ‘diversity’ are highly dissimilar and changing. For these reasons, deeper and more com- parative understandings of pertinent concepts, processes and phenomena are in great demand. This series will examine multiple forms and configu- rations of diversity, how these have been conceived, imagined, and repre- sented, how they have been or could be regulated or governed, how different processes of inter-ethnic or inter-religious encounter unfold, how conflicts arise and how political solutions are negotiated and prac- ticed, and what truly convivial societies might actually look like. By com- paratively examining a range of conditions, processes and cases revealing the contemporary meanings and dynamics of ‘diversity’, this series will be a key resource for students and professional social scientists. It will repre- sent a landmark within a field that has become, and will continue to be, one of the foremost topics of global concern throughout the twenty-first century. -

Dealing with mass migration is also a challenge for the governments of host countries and communities. Nations in the New World have shifted from welcoming and accommodating immigrants to adopting policy positions that are openly hostile. The theoretical frameworks developed to understand migration and to develop policy responses are breaking down under the acceleration of mass migration. This exegesis explores the shortcomings of these frameworks in accounting for the lived experience of migrants and refugees and discusses my artwork, which attempts to respond to this issue. -
