We compiled the information contained in these pages to provide nurses in the Commonwealth with a quick reference guide to RN-BSN programs. This is not a comprehensive directory – with the proliferation of on-line RN-BSN programs nationwide, nurses in Virginia have opportunities to attend schools almost anywhere in the country or even the world. The programs included here are either located in Virginia or have a strong student presence in Virginia. As the directory is updated and revised, new programs will certainly be added. The presence of a program in this directory does not indicate endorsement of the program by any organization or individual. The purpose of the directory is to provide a brief summary of information of interest to potential RN-BSN students, employers, educators, and academic advisors. Metropolitan Area Working Paper 2014-02 by Joanna Biernacka-Lievestro Graduate Research Assistant Introduction The Washington, D.C. metropolitan area is one of the leading hubs for higher education in the United States. A 2012 study by the Martin Property Institute,1 which analyzed the Census Bureau’s 2010 American Community Survey data, places metropolitan Washington, D.C. as the fourth largest college town in the United States, following only New York City, Los Angeles and Chicago. The Washington, D.C. region surpassed other metropolitan areas with high concentrations of college students, such as Philadelphia, Boston, Dallas-Fort Worth, Miami, San Francisco and Atlanta. This research shows that there are at least 93 institutions of higher education operating in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. This report presents data on these institutions’ enrollment and employment by type and location. Due to reporting limitations, data were only available for 78 of these institutions. As of the Fall 2012 semester, the 78 analyzed universities and colleges enrolled approximately 338,000 graduate and undergraduate students and employed about 70,600 faculty and staff. It must be emphasized that the numbers of students and employees are underestimated due to missing data for the 15 schools and because it is expected that the list of public and private universities and colleges compiled for this research is not exhaustive.2 1 Florida Richard.

Jake Belue from the Office of the Attorney General was also present. EXECUTIVE SESSION In accordance with §2.2-3711 (A) (1) of the Code of Virginia, the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia convened in executive session at 8:05 p.m. to discuss personnel matters related to the Executive Director. The Executive Committee reconvened from the executive session at 9:00 a.m. A roll call vote was taken on a resolution certifying that to the best of each member’s knowledge only public business matters lawfully exempted from open meeting requirements and only such public business matters as were identified in the motion by which the closed meeting was convened were heard, discussed, or considered in the executive session.
