I became a servant of this gospel by the gift of God’s grace given me through the working of his power. Alberta Camp Meeting Camp Meeting Alberta 15- 23, 2016 July Ephesians 3:7 (NIV) Message from the President Welcome to Alberta Camp Meeting 2016! When Paul wrote to the Ephesians, he commented, “I became a servant of this gospel by the gift of God’s grace…” (Ephesians 3:7), hence the theme, “Servant of Grace.” Healthy leadership is a core value our Conference embraces and Scripture is full of examples. Noah demonstrates leaders persist in doing right even if they have to stand alone, Joseph proved good leaders endure in spite of diffi culties, Moses validates that leaders accept counsel, Deborah displayed a willingness to come along side of her peo- ple when diffi cult tasks are to be accomplished, David exhibited incredible courage and Jesus reveals that a true leader is focused on serving rather than being served. Perhaps the greatest threat to healthy leadership is egotism. Lucifer, a talented leader in God’s universe succumbed to pride. It leads to self-exaltation, a desire to control and ma- Ken Wiebe President nipulation. Even Jesus’ disciples openly sought to be the greatest and Jesus reminded Alberta Conference them, “But he who is greatest among you shall be your servant” (Matthew 23:11). Ken Blanchard and Phil Hodges in their book, Lead Like Jesus make this noteworthy statement, “Most of the leadership that shapes our lives does not come from leaders with titles or an organization chart; it comes from leaders in our daily life role relation- ships” (page 10).

  • We Players Presents: the Odyssey on the Alma
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE We Players presents: The Odyssey on the Alma www.weplayers.org Contact: Ava Roy, Artistic Director [email protected] 413-441-7138 This fall, We Players presents a limited engagement of The Odyssey while underway aboard a National Historic Landmark sailing vessel. Join We Players and the San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park on an afternoon sail through the San Francisco Bay on the 1891 scow schooner Alma, as we spin yarns from Homer’s ancient epic, The Odyssey. The Alma and her Aquatic Park environs evoke a strong connection to The Odyssey and the poem’s central theme of travel, exploration, and homecoming. It is a story of a great and difficult journey, the search for self, the discovery of other worlds and people, and the ultimate journey home. We Players is excited to introduce new ways of experiencing and appreciating the waters of our local landscape, in partnership with the San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park. Join us this fall, for one of only eleven performances of The Odyssey on Alma. Less than forty seats are available for each performance. Every performance sail will be followed by a post-show discussion over a simple meal aboard historic ferryboat Eureka. The Odyssey on Alma is the first phase of We Players multi-year exploration of Homer’s epic poem; the company is presently developing an island-wide production for Angel Island, which will be presented in spring 2012. About We Players: Recently honored with a Best of the Bay editors’ pick from the San Francisco Bay Guardian, for their unique site-specific performance work, We Players presents site- specific performances that transform public spaces into realms of participatory theatre.

Session A (2:15 to 3 PM) # Presenter(s) Title Authors & AffiliAtions 1 Emma Newcomb Classifying human harassment of seals in Maine Emma Newcomb & Kristina Cammen, University of Maine state waters, 2013 to 2015 From 2013-2015, there were 1,100 marine mammal strandings reported in Maine, of which 166 involved human interaction with pinnipeds, as reported by the stranding networks Marine Mammals of Maine and Allied Whale. Human interaction is broadly classified as harassment, entanglement, boat strike, or shot. The harassment category is vague and often requires further classification. In this project, I evaluated human interaction cases from 2013-2015 in Maine to create a classification system for harassment. I analyzed the frequency of interactions for harbor, gray, and harp seals, and determined the types of interaction with each. I formulated and applied a classification system to these cases and determined harbor seal weanlings in southern Maine were most often harassed. The most frequent type of interaction was approach. By classifying human interaction and analyzing frequency, stranding networks gather information to educate the public of what to do during a stranding, and prevent future human interaction.
