KNIGHT CLUB: the Bat & the Crow
KNIGHT CLUB: The Bat & The Crow – One shot PAGE ONE PANEL ONE – EXT. DARK BATTLEFIELD – NIGHT This panel takes up one half of the page, vertically. The setting is a DARK and CHAOTIC BATTLEFIELD. In the foreground is MALIZAR. He is a tall, lanky, and worn-looking evil wizard in a scarred, leathery cloak. Bathed in shadow behind Malizar is his army of gruesome fiends, both human and non-human. CAPTION (top of page): In the time before the Three Crown War, before the lands of Trygia were forever lost, vast armies of unfathomable creatures battled for the right to shape the four realms in their image. The commanders of these warring factions were two wicked spell-casters of indescribable power. CAPTION (beside Malizar): Malizar the Bloodthirsty ruled legions of cruel beasts and hideous undead fiends. His mastery of the dark arts was rivaled by that of only one other. PANEL TWO – EXT. DARK BATTLEFIELD – NIGHT This panel makes up the second half of the page. In a similar setting, we see KALKUS in the foreground. He is a stocky, crook-nosed man with wild hair and an ornate feathered cloak. Bathed in similar shadow behind him is another similar army of creatures. CAPTON: (beside Kalkus): Kalkus the Dark was the only wizard to oppose Malizar’s reign and live. He ruled over an entire kingdom of twisted, otherworldly beings and wraith-like warlocks. CAPTION: (bottom of page): The two dark masters collided on countless occasions. Each confrontation brought about immense turmoil, painting entire mountains red with inhuman blood. Still, neither man would yield. -
Artificial Intelligence, Counseling, and Cognitive Psychology
DOCUMENT RESUME ED 376 423 CG 025 844 AUTHOR Brack, Greg; And Others TITLE Artificial Intelligence, Counseling, and Cognitive Psychology. PUB DATE Apr 94 NOTE 38p.; Paper presented at the Annual Meeting of the American Educational Research Association (New Orleans, LA, April 4-8, 1994). PUB TYPE Speeches/Conference Papers (150) Information Analyses (070) EDRS PRICE MF01/PCO2 Plus Postage. DESCRIPTORS *Artificial Intelligence; Cognitive Processes; *Cognitive Psychology; Computers; *Computer Simulation; *Counseling; *Counselors; Epistemology; Heuristics; Learning Processes; Logical Thinking; Simulated Environment; *Simulation ABSTRACT With the exception of a few key writers, counselors largely ignore the benefits that Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Cognitive Psychology (CP) can bring to counseling. It is demonstrated that AI and CP can be integrated into the counseling literature. How AI and CP can offer new perspectives on information processing, cognition, and helping is focused upon. Some of the various computer simulations developed by the authors along with those programs available from software publishers, are reviewed. Such programscan provide a potent means of simulating various counseling related systems. Besides providing insights into clinical practice, such simulations can offer training and supervision experiences into CP studies of systems theory, emergent properties, and emotions. The rapid evolvement of AI and CP in the last few years means that the only major barrier to opening these fields to counseling applications is ignorance of their applicability and their availability. These technologies allow counselors to experience more empirical thought experimenting environments so that therapists can test these simulations against the real world of counseling. While these technologies will never replace more traditional research paradigms, they can become an invaluable adjunctive teaching and research tool for counseling professionals. -
1.1 Biblical Wisdom
JOB, ECCLESIASTES, AND THE MECHANICS OF WISDOM IN OLD ENGLISH POETRY by KARL ARTHUR ERIK PERSSON B. A., Hon., The University of Regina, 2005 M. A., The University of Regina, 2007 A THESIS SUBMITTED IN PARTIAL FULFILLMENT OF THE REQUIREMENTS FOR THE DEGREE OF DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY in THE FACULTY OF GRADUATE AND POSTDOCTORAL STUDIES (English) THE UNIVERSITY OF BRITISH COLUMBIA (Vancouver) February 2014 © Karl Arthur Erik Persson, 2014 Abstract This dissertation raises and answers, as far as possible within its scope, the following question: “What does Old English wisdom literature have to do with Biblical wisdom literature?” Critics have analyzed Old English wisdom with regard to a variety of analogous wisdom cultures; Carolyne Larrington (A Store of Common Sense) studies Old Norse analogues, Susan Deskis (Beowulf and the Medieval Proverb Tradition) situates Beowulf’s wisdom in relation to broader medieval proverb culture, and Charles Dunn and Morton Bloomfield (The Role of the Poet in Early Societies) situate Old English wisdom amidst a variety of international wisdom writings. But though Biblical wisdom was demonstrably available to Anglo-Saxon readers, and though critics generally assume certain parallels between Old English and Biblical wisdom, none has undertaken a detailed study of these parallels or their role as a precondition for the development of the Old English wisdom tradition. Limiting itself to the discussion of two Biblical wisdom texts, Job and Ecclesiastes, this dissertation undertakes the beginnings of such a study, orienting interpretation of these books via contemporaneous reception by figures such as Gregory the Great (Moralia in Job, Werferth’s Old English translation of the Dialogues), Jerome (Commentarius in Ecclesiasten), Ælfric (“Dominica I in Mense Septembri Quando Legitur Job”), and Alcuin (Commentarius Super Ecclesiasten). -

Ridley Scott Is Re-Engineering the Iconic Xenomorph for an Alien Prequel/Sequel That’S Taking the Sci-Fi Horror Series Back to Its Fright-Filled Roots
ON SET 72 Nearly four decades after bursting onto the scene, Ridley Scott is re-engineering the iconic xenomorph for an Alien prequel/sequel that’s taking the sci-fi horror series back to its fright-filled roots. Total Film takes an express elevator to hell – aka the Sydney set of ALIEN: COVENANT – and comes face to face with a perfect organism. WORDS JORDan FARLEY TOTAL FILM | JULy 2017 ALIEN: COVENANT 73 JULy 2017 | TOTAL FILM MAKING OF idley Scott remembers Shepperton Studios like he’s just woken up from hypersleep. He remembers making movie history with Alien in 1979. Above all, he remembers his idle hands. How his own digits doubled for the finger-like legs of the facehugger twitching inside the egg. How he drew the film’s storyboards while studio suits ummed and ahhed over the budget. How he would improvise and improve set-ups until seconds before shooting, all because sitting around 74 – a common experience on film sets – would drive him “crazy”. If Ridley Scott’s own Alien memories are inextricably associated 78-year-old filmmaker’s mind for half nightmare and bland crossover franchise with idle hands, it’s only right that the his life. “Did it come about by accident… fodder. Scott famously returned to xenomorph itself, as revealed in Alien: or was it by design?” the series he launched in 2012 with Covenant, should be the product of a One thing’s for certain: intelligent Prometheus, an ambitious but flawed devil’s workshop. “Why on earth would design has rarely figured into the ad hoc prequel about the origins of humanity anyone make such a creature, and to evolution of the Alien series. -

Polygons and Practice in Skies of Arcadia
Issue 02 – 2013 Journal –Peer Reviewed ZOYA STREET Gamesbrief [email protected] Polygons and practice in Skies of Arcadia This paper features research carried out at the Victoria and Albert Museum into the design history of Sega’s 2000 Dreamcast title, Skies of Arcadia (released in Ja- pan as Eternal Arcadia). It was released by Overworks, a subsidiary of Sega, at an interesting point in Japanese computer game history. A new generation of video game consoles was in its infancy, and much speculation in the industry sur- rounded how networked gaming and large, open, tridimensional game worlds would change game design in the years ahead. Skies of Arcadia is a game about sky pirates, set in a world where islands and continents foat in the sky. I became interested in this game because it was praised in critical reviews for the real sense of place in its visual design. It is a Jap- anese Role Playing Game (JRPG), meaning that gameplay focuses on exploring a series of spaces and defeating enemies in turn-based, probabilistic battles using a system similar to that established by tabletop games such as Dungeons & Dragons. This research is based on interviews with the producer Shuntaro Tanaka and lead designer Toshiyuki Mukaiyama, user reviews submitted online over the past 10 plus years, and historically informed design analysis. It is grounded in a broader study of the networks of production and consumption that surrounded and co-produced the Dreamcast as a cultural phenomenon, technological agent and played experience. Through design analysis, oral history and archival research, in this paper I will complicate notions of tridimensionality by placing a three dimensional RPG in a broader network of sociotechnical relationships. -
