As our visual shows, it is an International Cinema Festival of documentary and fiction films with a whole programme put together by the FIDMarseille team. A year of work, of research and meetings, with more than 2500 films received and patiently viewed from no less than 94 countries. We would also like to give our heart-felt thanks to all the directors and producers for their trust in us. There are more than thirty in competition this year from all horizons with 17 countries represented, 30 international and world premieres, promising fascinating encounters and discoveries. Thank you to all the Jury members, our two presidents, Julio Bressane and Luc Moullet, along with their colleagues who are jurors for the International and National competitions, but also the different juries variously made up of librarians, cinema exhibitors, religious communities and, for the first time this year, inmates of the Marseille penitentiary centre, who each have the delicate task of awarding their own prizes. As for each edition of the festival, the official selection will be surrounded by “parallel screens”. This year, we particularly wanted to take stock of the numerous transfor- mations of the world, most notably in Arab countries, by showing images of revolutions in progress and by inviting directors to come to bear witness and show their work in progress, their pieces “under construction”. All of this, evidently, would not be possible without the ongoing assured support of our public and private sector partners whom the board of directors and all the FIDMarseille team would like to particularly thank. We are equally pleased to reaffirm our involvement, and our confidence, in the wonderful dynamic generated by Marseille Provence 2013, European Capital of Culture. I wish each and every one of you an excellent festival, with gripping moments spent in the darkness of the projection rooms, interesting meetings with the film-makers who are present in considerable numbers, fascinating debates held after screenings and all the convivial moments organised for you. 006 Aurélie Filippetti Présidente du conseil d’administration du festival Nous sommes heureux de vous retrouver, pour cette 22e édition du FIDMarseille, dans notre lieu historique, le Théâtre National de la Criée. Festival International de Cinéma, notre visuel l’affiche, documentaire ou fiction, voilà tout un programme, concocté par l’équipe du FIDMarseille. Une année de travail, de recherches, de rencontres, plus de 2500 films reçus et patiemment visionnés, qui représentent pas moins de 94 pays. Aussi tenons-nous à remercier de tout cœur tous les réalisateurs et producteurs qui nous ont fait confiance. Ils seront plus de trente en compétition cette année, venus de tous les horizons : 17 pays représentés, 30 premières internationales et mondiales, autant de rencontres passionnantes et de découvertes. Merci à tous les membres des jurys, à nos deux présidents, Julio Bressane et Luc Moullet, accompagnés de leurs collègues jurés des compétitions Internationale et Nationale, mais également aux différents jurys constitués diversement de bibliothécaires, d’exploitants, des communautés religieuses, et, depuis cette année, des détenus du centre pénitentiaire de Marseille qui auront chacun la délicate tâche de décerner les prix dont ils sont les porteurs. Comme à chaque édition, la sélection officielle sera entourée des « écrans parallèles ». Cette année, nous avons particulièrement souhaité faire état des nombreuses mutations du monde et notamment dans les pays arabes, en montrant des images des révolutions en cours, en proposant aux réalisateurs de venir témoigner et montrer leurs travaux en cours, leurs œuvres « en chantier ». Tout cela, bien évidemment, ne serait pas possible sans le soutien continu, affirmé, de nos partenaires publics et privés que le conseil d’administration, se joignant à toute l’équipe du FIDMarseille, remercie vivement. Nous nous réjouissons également de réaffirmer notre implication, et notre confiance, dans cette belle dynamique qu’est Marseille Provence 2013, capitale européenne de la culture. Each of its editions has enjoyed a notoriety with film professionals and cinephiles while its public has steadily increased. In presenting films from sixty different countries, the FID demonstrates its willing openness as well as its capacity to evolve towards new genres, in the direction of new horizons of a cinema of the real. Thus, it takes part in the cultural influence of our city and contributes to reinforcing the film industry in Marseille, the second in France. In the range of the cultural events scheduled celebrating “Marseille-Provence 2013, Capitale européenne de la culture,” – of which the FID is a partner – the cinema will have its proper place thanks to the installation of new equipment. Purchased and restored by the City of Marseille, the Château de la Buzine will open the doors, in a few weeks, of the Maison des Cinématographies de la Méditerranée.
