  • Full Investigations and Windshield Surveys
Appendix 2: Full Investigations and Windshield Surveys During Phase III of the update project, the RCHPC sponsored the creation of nine focused investigations that explored specific aspects of Rapid City’s history. Each essay is available in full below. Each includes samples of historical documentation from newspapers and local archives as well as photographs of buildings and spaces relevant to each topic that still exist in Rapid City. The Ridgeline and the Creek: Landscape and Memory in Rapid City The Black Hills formed when a large, oblong section of igneous rock lifted through the earth’s mantle some 65 million years ago, breaking through the limestone crust to expose the large, stone center of the Hills. In and around this central ring, forests thick with ponderosa pines, blue spruce, and cedar trees cropped up. They intersperse in meadows with prairie grasses and shrubs and are home to an array of animals including deer, elk, beavers, squirrels, raccoons, skunks, rabbits, and more. Bison, grizzly bears, wolves, mountain lions, and coyote once inhabited the vast prairies surrounding the Black Hills. Most of the large predators and most of the bison were killed off or pushed out as Euro-Americans displaced early Indigenous inhabitants. Rapid City grew up at the vertex of water and stone. A long, narrow ridgeline juts from south to north. Residents can look up at the ridge from any side of town or peer down over the vast distance visible from Skyline Drive or Highway 16. The ridge forms the backbone of the Rapid City landscape and includes two main parts from south the north: Hangman’s Hill, which is traversed by Skyline Drive, and Cowboy Hill, which begins immediately north of Rapid Creek.

HOG Express Editor: Mary S Asst Editor & Photog: Pat L Road Crew: HOG Officers, Black Sheep, Dave Y San Diego HOG Spring Into Summer Ride Biggs Harley-Davidson 1040 Los Vallecitos Blvd. Suite 113, San Marcos, CA (800) 4-Harley Director We are in the middle of another great riding year. Our Activities Committee has done a very nice job of filling our calendar with interesting rides of varying lengths. They have really listened to the chapter and responded to what the membership wants. The results are shown in the popularity of the local rides. And what can I say about the long distance rides? Other chapters are even copying our rides, down to the same routes and hotels. As Bill E says, “Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.” (Well, he might not have actually said that, but I’m sure he would agree!) Our chapter is gaining a reputation for our enthusiasm and our focus on our core mission of riding and having fun. One indicator of our enthusiasm is how we all come out to the large events we put on our calendar. Last month we had the May Ride and the San Diego HOG Spring into Summer Poker Run. Our chapter came out in force and won the chapter challenges at both events. On a special note, Clint A of the May Ride actually named the May Ride chapter challenge after our own Tom M.

  • Introduction This Book Contains Rules and Technical Requirements Governing All Events That Make up the AMA Pro Flat Track Grand National Championship (GNC)
Introduction This book contains rules and technical requirements governing all events that make up the AMA Pro Flat Track Grand National Championship (GNC). The rulebook is designed to provide the information needed to prepare motorcycles for competition, plus an overview of rules that apply to the racing program. The intent of a specific rule will override a competitor’s interpretation of a rule. The intent of a rule will be determined by AMA Pro Racing. If any rule is unclear to the entrant or competitor, the entrant or competitor is advised to get written approval prior to any modifications. Requests for rule clarifications or interpretations must be submitted in writing by riders and teams to AMA Pro Racing. Any prior verbal approval from AMA Pro Racing without a written statement from the Technical Department regarding the interpretation of a rule or procedure will be deemed invalid. While every effort has been made to write these rules in a clear and unambiguous fashion, it is impossible to anticipate every circumstance. It will be the race director’s responsibility to make decisions regarding rules enforcement. By participating in an AMA Pro Racing event, each licensed participant agrees to abide by AMA Pro Racing’s rules and procedures. In addition, AMA Pro Racing licensed riders may be held responsible for the actions of their crew members. Violation of AMA Pro Racing rules and procedures can lead to forfeiture of competition licenses or event credentials, fines, points deductions, lap deductions, finishing position deductions, time penalties, disqualification and other disciplinary actions as outlined herein. For safety reasons, at any time during the calendar year AMA Pro Racing may require a Competitor to undergo a physical or psychological examination by designated medical professionals at the Competitor’s expense.

  • 2021 AMA Amateur Competition Rulebook
2021 RULEBOOK 2021 AMA Racing Rules Governing Pro/Am, Standard, ATV and Youth Competition An exclusive service to members of the American Motorcyclist Association The American Motorcyclist Association takes pride in its long record of achievement as the world’s largest sanctioning body for the sport of motorcycle competition. Since 1924 the objectives of the Association have been the same: to foster strong and fair competition, to provide reasonable guidelines for the various types of competition, and to provide an impartial competition program. The rules of competition are intended only as a guide for the conduct of the sport pursuant to uniform rules. Rules related to safety are made to make everyone concerned with safety. However, the AMA neither warrants safety if the rules are followed nor compliance with the enforcement of the rules. Moreover, each participant in competition has the responsibility to assess the safety aspects of facilities and conditions and must assume the risk of competition. Recognized and non-recognized districts, and organizations within a district, must submit any temporary or locally appropriate supplemental regulations for approval by the AMA Racing Department. Supplemental regulations may not be in conflict with national rules. In the event of a protest or appeal, the judgment will be based on information contained in the AMA national rules. Contact the AMA at (800) 262-5646 for the address of your district office. The American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) prohibits discrimination in all of its programs and activities (including all AMA-sanctioned events) on the basis of race, color, national origin, creed, religion, sex, age, disability, veteran status, marital status, familial status, parental status, sexual orientation, or any other category protected by applicable state or federal law.
