It started when the group was welcomed by the town of Spearfish for music by the ISD Army National Guard Band, SGT Rock, and special presentations. The group then rode through the northern hills to arrive at the CrossRoads for a catered reception, meet & greet, and auction. That’s when the real action happened as Mark Halverson stepped up to purchase an original 1969 Triumph Chopper restored by Justin Gregory of JAG Old School Choppers in Florida. The event moved inside the Chip amphitheater for a military toast followed by con- certs by George Thorogood and the Destroyers and blink-182. As always, the heart of the Freedom Celebration, now in its 26th year, was the Bob Hanson Distinguished Service Awards, conferred this year on Scott Bollinger of Black Rifle Coffee, Ben Wallace, the Hanson Family and Keith Helfrich. It was a remarkable day of memory and respect. Because con- trary to what most people think, the Buffalo Chip Campground was not named in snarky reference to animal leavings found on the open western plains. It was named for Jonathan “Buffalo Chips” White. Location: Take Highway 79 N for 88 miles toward Reva, SD. LAST NIGHT’S CONCERT

Often irreverent, sometimes totally inappropriate, Blink 182’s pop punk (above and left) ignited partiers in the Chip amphitheater playing their best-known tracks. Confetti and explosive effects capped off a remarkable day during the Sturgis rally at the Buffalo Chip.

George Thorogood (right) and the Destroyers didn’t miss a lick laying down their signature boogie blues. The undeniable driving beat brought the crowd to their feet providing a party atmosphere and ensuring that when you’re at the Best Party Anywhere no one drinks alone.
