2021 AMA Amateur Competition Rulebook 2021 RULEBOOK 2021 AMA Racing Rules Governing Pro/Am, Standard, ATV and Youth Competition An exclusive service to members of the American Motorcyclist Association The American Motorcyclist Association takes pride in its long record of achievement as the world’s largest sanctioning body for the sport of motorcycle competition. Since 1924 the objectives of the Association have been the same: to foster strong and fair competition, to provide reasonable guidelines for the various types of competition, and to provide an impartial competition program. The rules of competition are intended only as a guide for the conduct of the sport pursuant to uniform rules. Rules related to safety are made to make everyone concerned with safety. However, the AMA neither warrants safety if the rules are followed nor compliance with the enforcement of the rules. Moreover, each participant in competition has the responsibility to assess the safety aspects of facilities and conditions and must assume the risk of competition. Recognized and non-recognized districts, and organizations within a district, must submit any temporary or locally appropriate supplemental regulations for approval by the AMA Racing Department. Supplemental regulations may not be in conflict with national rules. In the event of a protest or appeal, the judgment will be based on information contained in the AMA national rules. The American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) prohibits discrimination in all of its programs and activities (including all AMA-sanctioned events) on the basis of race, color, national origin, creed, religion, sex, age, disability, veteran status, marital status, familial status, parental status, sexual orientation, or any other category protected by applicable state or federal law. HOW TO USE THESE RULES These rules are to be used for all types of AMA-sanctioned Amateur and Youth competition. These rules should be used in the following manner: 1. Become familiar with the definitions found in the glossary. 2. Know who may ride and how to determine their proper classification, which is found in each discipline chapter. 3. Equipment standards are listed in each discipline chapter and only apply to that chapter. 4. Chapter 1 begins with the rules that apply to Motocross followed by chapters for Off-road, and Track Racing. Special rules that pertain to each specific type of competition are listed in the appropriate chapter. A special rule takes precedence over the general rule when they differ. Example: The special rules for Observed Trials found in Section 2.3 of Chapter 2 are to be used with, and in addition to, the general rules at the beginning of the same chapter. 5. The youth rules are specific to each chapter and can be found in the proper sections of each chapter. 6. Each chapter has a section pertaining to ATVs and is to be used in addition to specific discipline rules where applicable. 7. Protest or appeal procedures are in Chapter 4. 8. Chapter 5 contains the appendices. 9. Any reference to a “motorcycle” also includes a supermini and minicycle unless noted otherwise. 10. New or changed rules will be in bold and italicized. Items that are indicated with a strikethrough are no longer valid. 11. The 2021 rules are in effect as of Jan. 1, 2021. The electronic version on AMA website supersedes printed copy.     Motorcycle Crash Causation Study: Final Report PUBLICATION NO. FHWA-HRT-18-064 FEBRUARY 2019 Research, Development, and Technology Turner-Fairbank Highway Research Center 6300 Georgetown Pike McLean, VA 22101-2296 FOREWORD The Motorcycle Crash Causation Study (MCCS), conducted through the Federal Highway Administration Office of Safety Research and Development, produced a wealth of information on the causal factors of motorcycle (MC) crashes and provides perspectives on what crash- countermeasure opportunities can be developed. This study used a crash- and control-case approach developed from the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development protocols, which as discussed in this report, has provided insights into more than 1,900 data elements that may be associated with motorcycle-crash causation. The research team produced a final report along with a 14-volume series of supplemental reports that provide an overview of the study and a summary of its observations, the data-collection forms and coding definitions, a tabulation of each data element collected from each form, and selected comparisons with previous studies. It is anticipated that readers will select those Volumes and data elements that provide information of specific interest. This final report describes the development and conduct of the MCCS and contains tabulations of the results. It provides a background of the study, various protocols used to collect the data, the study design, and a summary of the findings. This report will be of interest to individuals involved in traffic safety, safety training, crash and injury reduction, and roadway design and policymaking, as well as MC designers and safety-equipment designers, crash investigators and researchers, MC and automotive manufacturers and consumers, roadway users, and human- factors specialists.

  • Colin Seeley Colin Began His Career As an Apprentice with Harcourt
    Speaker: Colin Seeley Colin began his career as an apprentice with Harcourt Motorcycles. By 1954 and aged just 18, Colin had branched out on his own and secured premises in Belvedere, Kent, which laid the foundations for his successful dealership and workshop. During that same year, Colin also entered his first race at Brands Hatch, riding a borrowed 500cc BSA Star Twin. 1960 saw Colin and his friend acquire a sidecar outfit based on a Manx Norton which they raced for the first time that year at Snetterton. Just one year later in 1961, Colin entered his first Grand Prix event, the Isle of Man TT this time using a Matchless G50 modified and fitted with a Canterbury racing sidecar and achieved 6th place. Colin raced in numerous competitions between 1961 and 1967 including the British and world championship sidecar competitions. Using his own design of machines achieved a first place in the 1964 Dutch TT and 2nd in the Isle of Man TT sidecar competition not to mention coming close to winning the world championships. Through the mid to late 60’s Colin concentrated more and more on the design and construction of Seeley framed racing motorcycles. By the late 60’s and into the early 70s (by which time nearly all the major motorcycle manufacturers had pulled out of Grand Prix racing) the Seeley designed frame became the first choice for the privateer racers of that era. In 1969 the Mark 3 version of the Seeley racing frame was adapted to house the Norton Commando 750 motor and by that time Colin’s designs had become so successful in competition that he deservedly earned a reputation as one of the best motorcycle frame designers in the industry.
