The Jarolím family will take sides once more as SK Slavia Praha host Hamburger SV in Group F, with an away win spelling qualification for Martin Jol's side and the end of the line for the Czech champions. • Hamburg sit on three points after two games, having lost 1-0 at home against AFC Ajax on Matchday 3. They can atone for that slip-up by winning against Slavia, a result which would guarantee them a place in the last 32. • Slavia drew 0-0 at MŠK Žilina on 27 November to pick up their first point in the section, but they badly need a win if they are to go into their final Group F game at Ajax with their qualifying destiny still in their own hands. • This will be Slavia and Hamburg's second meeting in UEFA club competiton and their fourth in in total. • The two clubs were drawn together in the second round of the 1968/69 Inter-Cities Fairs Cup, the non-UEFA affiliated precursor to the UEFA Cup, with Hamburg winning 4-1 at home and progressing despite a 3-1 defeat in Prague. • More recently, the two teams met in the 2005/06 UEFA Cup group stage, with goals from and Emile Mpenza helping 's side win 2-0 against a Slavia team depleted by the first-half dismissal of goalkeeper Matús Kozácik at the Arena Hamburg. • The teams for that match on 15 December 2005 were: Hamburg: , Thimothée Atouba, , Raphaël Wicky (Alexander Laas, 60), , Sergej Barbarez (, 70), David Jarolím, , , , Emile Mpenza (, 63). Slavia: Matús Kozácik, Martin Latka, Stanislav Vlček (Tomáš Pešir, 80), Miroslav Holenák, Patrik Gedeon, Pavel Fořt (Aleksander Šeliga, 27), Marek Suchý, Dušan Švento, Matej Krajčík, Lukaš Jarolím, Tomáš Hrdlička (Michal Švec, 86). • Like that match, this belated return will be a big occasion in the Jarolím family, with Slavia coach Karel Jarolím likely to come face to face with his son David, a midfielder at Hamburg. • In the previous fixture, David Jarolím was also up against his older brother Lukaš, though the latter has now moved on to AC Siena in . • However, Slavia now boast another Jarolím, Karel Jarolím's 24-year-old nephew Marek, who will be eager to get to grips with his cousin.

Their last win as hosts was against FC Steaua Bucureşti in the 2007/08 UEFA Champions League group stage. • Hamburg have lost only once in their last nine European away games, with six of those matches ending in wins. • Aston Villa FC play Žilina in Thursday's other Group F game. Competition information

The UEFA Cup evolved from the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup, and was first contested as the UEFA Cup in 1971/72. Next season the UEFA Cup will be reborn as the UEFA Europa League. The new name heralds major changes to the competition, which will have a new 48-team group stage with centralised marketing of broadcast rights, a presenting sponsor and an official matchball in addition to centralised sponsorship from the knockout stage and a new logo and visual identity. • Format: The UEFA Cup group stage draw in Nyon on 7 October saw the 40 teams divided into eight groups of five. Clubs from the same association could not be drawn into the same group. Each club plays home and away alternately in its group. Three points are awarded for a win, one point for a draw and no points for a defeat. If two or more teams are equal on points on completion of the group matches, the following criteria are applied to determine the rankings. a) superior goal difference from all group matches played; b) higher number of goals scored; c) higher number of goals scored away; d) higher number of wins; e) higher number of away wins; f) higher coefficient points accumulated by the club in question, as well as its association, over the previous five seasons. The eight group-winners, the eight runners-up, and the eight third-ranked teams from the group stage qualify for the Round of 32, along with the eight sides that finish third in the eight UEFA Champions League groups, with ties to be played over two legs on 18/19 and 26 February 2009. The clubs that finish this stage in fourth and fifth position are eliminated from UEFA club competition for the season. This year's UEFA Cup final is in Istanbul on 20 May 2009. • Disciplinary information: As a rule, a player who is sent off is suspended for the next match in a UEFA club competition. The Control and Disciplinary Body is entitled to augment this punishment. In the case of repeated cautions, a player is suspended for one match after three cautions in three different matches, as well as following any subsequent odd-numbered caution (fifth, seventh, ninth, etc). Single yellow cards and pending suspensions are always carried forward either to the next stage of the competition or to another club competition in the current season. • Locally-trained players rule: In February 2005, UEFA announced the 'A' list that teams submit for UEFA club competitions will continue to be limited to 25 players, and from season 2007/08, at least six places will be reserved for players trained by the club's own football academy of which half can be players trained by other clubs from within the same association of the said club. The 'B' list will also continue to exist - involving an unlimited number of Under-21 players who have been at the club for any uninterrupted period of two years since their 15th birthday. In 2006/07, the number of locally-trained players required began at four but the current six will rise to eight in 2008/09, with up to half of each figure allowed to be association trained. A club-trained player is defined as a player who has been registered for a minimum of three seasons with the club between the age of 15 and 21, whereas an association-trained player is one who has been registered for at least three seasons by the club or by other clubs affiliated to the same association between the age of 15 and 21. • Player registration: UEFA regulations state that for all UEFA Cup matches from the start of the Round of 32, a club may register a maximum of three new eligible players within their squad of 25 for the remaining matches in the current competition. One player from the above quota of three who has played UEFA club competition matches for another competing club in the current season may exceptionally be registered, provided that the player has not been fielded by another club in the UEFA Cup this season or by a club that has transferred from the UEFA Champions League to the UEFA Cup following the group stage. • Disclaimer: Although UEFA has taken all reasonable care that the information contained within this document is accurate at the time of publication, no representation or guarantee (including liability towards third parties), expressed or implied, is made as to its accuracy, reliability or completeness.
