Impulses for a Strong Switzerland and a Strong Europe a STRONG SWITZERLAND NEEDS a STRONG RELATIONSHIP with EUROPE Impulses for a strong Switzerland and a strong Europe A STRONG SWITZERLAND NEEDS A STRONG RELATIONSHIP WITH EUROPE Switzerland and Europe are in the midst of a world in flux. For a strong Switzerland, its relationship with Europe is key. The activities of the Europa Forum focus on annual themes. Backed by a powerful media partnership with Ringier Axel Springer Switzerland, these achieve a year-round presence featuring effective support initiatives that resonate widely. Economies are weakening, national debts are causing concern, populism is on the rise, and both Brexit with its unfore- seeable consequences and the migration crisis remain unresolved. All this carries risks for Europe – and Switzerland. DYNAMIC ENVIRONMENT The global situation is also having a negative impact. Global commercial disputes, conflicts with Russia and China‘s growing hunger for power are putting Europe on the defensive. Current challenges due to the corona pandemic do additionally influence the already fragile situation. QUO VADIS EUROPE? Is there a way out of these straits for Europe – if so, what are the possible solutions? And what about Switzerland? The European Union is the main economic partner of Switzerland. The corona crisis and its impacts demonstrate the importance of the European cooperation also in other fields. LOOKING AHEAD It all centres on the age-old question: more closeness or greater distance? The Europa Forum Lucerne has been offering guidance in an uncertain world for more than 25 years.
