Route 183 ran between Golders Green and Northwood (and still does) and this plate would have been located on the section 160towards Hendon bus garage in respect of buses terminating there. Hendon garage closed in 1987 and was subsequently demolished. A scarce plate in good, ex-use condition. 4 London Transport items comprising an original 1947 copy of 'LONDON TRANSPORT CARRIED ON' (the LT WW2 story) in worn condition, an official LT COMMEMORATION PACK for the last RT in 1979 (poster,35 ticket, photographs and pewter medallion) in orginal envelope and a part 1970s DESTINATION BLIND (Routemaster canopy 'PP') with roller from Northfleet (NF) garage. [3] 5 1913 London Underground MAP contained in the 1914 Union Jack Club diary. The map has a specially-designed reverse side with details of outings, fares, first & last trains etc and differs from the more commonly40 seen version in that the planned CLR extension to Ealing is not yet shown although those for the Bakerloo and Hampstead tubes are. The map is in superb condition and the diary itself is very good. [1] 6 WW2 London Underground CAR NOTICE 'What to do in Air Raids'. Paper on a hardboard backing and slightly curved to fit in the apertures above the seats. In ex-use condition with some damp stains. [1] 32 7 British Railways CARRIAGE MIRROR in original wooden frame and featuring the BR monogram under the glass. Thought to date from the 1950s. In very good, ex-carriage condition. [1] 40 8 Original London Transport Routemaster RADIATOR GRILLE ex RML 2269 and carrying registration plate CUV 269C. The first bus to carry this number entered service at Tottenham (AR) garage in 1965 and the100 final RML 2269 was withdrawn from Shepherd's Bush (S) garage in 2003 after an accident. Since refurbished, the bus still exists. This grille is believed to date from the vehicle's major refurbishment in 1992. In excellent condition. [1] 9 London Underground Circle Line 1950s/60s ENAMEL FRIEZE PLATE from a station on the northern section shared with the Metropolitan Line, whose colour appears on the lower edge with the Circle Line's 140at the top. In excellent condition, just a couple of small chips. [1] 10 Double-sided, flanged enamel BUS STOP FLAG 'By Request, Queue this side/Queue other side'. No operator's name but of the style used by Thames Valley, Aldershot & District etc. In very good, lightly-used38 condition with an excellent shine. [1] 11 London Transport ENAMEL BUS STOP PLATE for route 20 destinated Epping. A larger version of an e-plate (8'' or 20cm square) which is believed to have been located at Bus Station in the 1969-760 period. In good, ex-use condition. [1] 12 London Transport WW2 ''BUS TROLLEYBUS & TRAM ROUTES - CENTRAL AREA'', issue No 2, 1945 (May issue). A wartime issue when publishing of the usual maps stopped but the presence of large numbers of0 allied servicemen in London caused a need for some information. In the fold-out style of the pre-war maps but just a list of routes/places served and only 13,000 printed. Very few have survived. In good condition, a few foxing marks, route numbers of night services added by user. [1] 13 London Transport Buses STENCIL HOLDERS for the garage allocation and running number plates. Part no. RF 864 C6 as introduced for the modernised RFs in the mid-60s and used on most subsequent types,25 including retro-fitting to Routemasters. One ex Edmonton (EM) garage marked DMS 1274 and the other ex Bromley (TB) garage marked DMS 1265, both buses being withdrawn in 1979. In ex-vehicle condition. [2] 14 Enamel 'bullseye' STOCK-NUMBER PLATE from 1949 London Underground R47-Stock (District Line) Non-Driving Motor Car 23213. These plates were located above the inter-connecting doors at each end of45 the car. In very good ex-car condition. A 'bullseye' platform sign measuring 28'' x 26'' (71cm x 66cm) ex this Bakerloo and Northern Lines station which opened in 1906 and was340 renamed Charing Cross in 1979. Small enamel loss at some screw-holes and slight edge-wear but overall very good. [1] 20 London Underground RAILWAY MAP NO. 2 1934. An early H C Beck diagrammatic card map in excellent condition - crisp and clean. [1] 170 21 London Transport enamel bus stop E-PLATE for 'Thames Weald'. This independent operator (Dr Nesbitt Heffernan) was mainly known for its Dartford Tunnel service which linked north Kent with Romford. Plates0 for this operator are very scarce indeed. In good, ex-use condition, a coule of surface scratches. [1] 22 London Underground ENAMEL ROUNDEL SIGN from Marble Arch Station. This is one of the highly collectable, smaller-size signs measuring 24'' (60cm) across by 20'' (50cm) high, estimated to date from the1000 1980s/90s, and comes complete with brass frame. In very good condition. [1] 23 London Transport enamel BUS STOP SIGN in the smaller size (10.5'' x 10'' - 27cm x 25cm) which were located in runners on the roofs of bus shelters in the 1950s/60s. This is the 'Request' version - other variants75 are also listed in today's sale - and is in excellent condition. [1] 24 London Transport Tramways double-sided CARD FARECHART dated November 1947 for routes 68 (Waterloo Station & Greenwich) and 70 (Tooley Street & Greenwich). [1] 33 1923 District Railway MAP ''How to reach Hampton Court by UndergrounD'' aka ''The District Railway Miniature Map of London and Environs - 9th edition'', the 8th having been way back in 1908. These DR35 maps were curiously re-issued, barely updated, in the 1915-1925 period, in this case to promote travel to Hampton Court, pictures of which are on the reverse. In generally good condition, the cut-out on the left edge was done by the printer for insertion into a guidebook. [1] 34 London Transport FLEETNUMBER BONNET PLATE from WW2 STL 2672, a so-called 'unfrozen' chassis completed in 1942 by special authority of the Ministry of Supply and fitted with a Chiswick-built 'austerity'250 body. Originally painted red, the bus entered service at Watford in the Country Area, later seeing service at Godstone when it was painted green. Withdrawn from public service in 1952, it may have later been a staff bus. In very reasonable ex-vehicle condition. It was very unusual to publicise bus services during32 WW2 but this appears to be a public document, possibly due to the presence of important war-time employment along the routes. [1] 55 41 1925 London Underground MAP OF LONDON'S UNDERGROUND RAILWAYS, one of the Stingemore-designed series which ran from that year until 1932, this is the first edition with reference 694.11-5-25. A 35linen-card map and in the smaller size of the early 'Stigemores'. In used condition with some edge-wear and damp-staining where the red ink of the cover has run through to the map side. [1] 42 Pair of London Transport Central Buses GARAGE ALLOCATION PLATES for Southall, formerly Hanwell, garage (HW), as used from the 1930s until c1960. The garage was opened by the LGOC in 1925 and closed32 in 1986. In 1938, it operated the prototype RT, disguised as ST 1140, in chassis/engine trials. In ex-use condition. [2] 43 London Transport enamel bus stop E-PLATE '458 Langley, Slough, Windsor'. Thought to have been located at the Uxbridge terminus of this long-established route and probably one of just a pair. In very good,220 ex-bus stop condition with just a little street grime at the edges. In good condition apart from a little scuffing and printer's trimming at the left-hand edge. Has been re-folded. [1] 73 London Transport 'DOLLY STOP', a temporary bus stop used for diversions, emergencies etc. This is the 'head' of the stop and consists of two back-to-back enamel plates inside a steel frame. It is the 'Bus &120 Coach Request' version, a very scarce variant. A few well-executed chip repairs and a little weathering. Sign is 18'' (42cm) square,0 one-sided with a flange and fixing lugs. Two Waters (Hemel Hempstead) bus garage was designed in the Holden style and opened in 1935, closing in 1997. A few small chips touched in but otherwise in very good condition with an excellent shine. After withdrawal of all Green Line services upon the outbreak of WW2, a limited network, using25 route numbers instead of letters, was re-introduced in December 1940, only to be withdrawn again in 1942. Leaflet is in used condition with wear and some small stains but a scarce survivor. [1] 179 First edition of the Harry Beck London Underground diagrammatic, fold-out MAP printed in January 1933 with the famous inscription ''A new design for an old map....''. This is one of those issued after the1100 takeover by London Transport in July 1933 when the remaining stock was overprinted on the cover with the new LPTB name & address. These are less common than those issued earlier. In excellent, unmarked condition, very lightly used and therefore not quite mint. One of a small series, this variant is not70 listed by LT Museum. Linen-backed and in very good condition. [1] 219 Original 1951 London Transport POSTER MAP 'Festival of Britain'. A quad-royal sized decorative poster (artist unknown) depicting a map of inner London with the various Festival sites, special bus services,320 Underground and rail lines etc. A large version of the concurrent pocket map designed for bus stops, Underground stations etc. A pencilled 'Tooting Bdy' on the reverse suggests it was intended for that station but never posted. Has been stored folded with a little edge-wear and small partings at the fold corners. [1] 220 Original 1935 London Transport double-crown POSTER 'Garage Staff - to take care is part of your job....' by Edward E Hunt who designed a number of safety posters for LT from 1934-38. Features a lovely illustration340 of red (STL722) and green STL-type buses. One of only 150 printed and this one not in the LT Museum collection. Mounted on linen and in very good condition with a few small, light creases and a couple of small age spots only. [1] 221 Original 1938 London Transport POSTER 'A.A.A. Championships, White City' (Amateur Athletics) by Harry Blacker (1910-1999) who designed posters for London Transport in 1938/39. Size 12 1/2'' x 10 1/2''100 (32cm x 26cm) and of the type posted on the glass vestibules of Underground cars. Some scuffing to the left-hand edge but otherwise good. [1] 222 Original 1951 London Transport double-royal POSTER 'London's Past' by William Johnstone (1897-1981) who designed this one poster for LT. One part of a pair poster. [1] 226 Original 1954 London Transport double-royal POSTER 'Wild or Savage' by Betty Swanwick RA (1915-1989) who designed posters for LT from 1939-1954. This colourful poster promoted LT's guidebook 'Visitor's55 London'. Mounted on linen, the poster is in excellent condition with just a little professional repair to the corners before mounting. [1] 227 Original 1932 (pre-LPTB) Green Line Coaches Ltd POSTER MAP of Coach Routes dated 20-1-32. A quad-royal sized poster for display on bus shelters and at bus stations and garages etc. Also shows through fares.55 Has been stored folded and has a few small partings at the fold-corners but still very good overall. [1] 228 Original 1935 London Transport POSTER MAP OF Road & Rail services including Buses, trams, Underground and main-line railways. A quad-royal sized poster which shows the whole LPTB operating area. These150 would have been posted at selected bus and Underground stations, enquiry offices etc. Has been stored folded and has some short fold-partings in places and scuffed edges. A very scarce item. [1] 229 London General Omnibus Company MAP & GUIDE dated June 1913, an early example from the famous series of London bus maps which ran from 1911 to 1994. Light use but a good copy. [1] 0 230 London Underground internal use only LONDON CONNECTIONS ROUTE MAP dated January 2007 and LONDON CONNECTIONS GEOGRAPHICAL MAP dated December 2009, both showing the complete railway30 system in geographical format superimposed on a general map on one side and the central London area, in geographical format - 2007 issue and diagrammatic format - 2009 issue, on the other. Fold-out, larger-sized maps rarely seen in public. In excellent condition. [2] 231 London Transport enamel bus stop E-PLATE for routes 802/802A with an unusual diagonal split, only known on this plate and one other. The 802/802A were Stevenage industrial services and the latter only 0existed for a short period in the mid-1960s. A scarce plate in good, ex-stop condition with minor edge chipping in places. [1] 232 London Underground ENAMEL STATION FRIEZE PLATE for Charing Cross from the Bakerloo Line platforms, opened in 1906, at the original station bearing this name, re-named Embankment in 1976. Some chips0 at the edges but very reasonable overall. [1] 233 London Transport FLEETNUMBER BONNET PLATE for AEC Regent RT 2521, a green Country Area example which entered service at Crawley in 1950. The last bus to carry this number was one of those repainted125 by London Country into its short-lived green with yellow band livery when it received the LCBS-style yellow transfers on the plate. The bus finished its service at Swanley garage in 1972 and was scrapped that year. In very good ex-vehicle condition. [1] 234 London Transport enamel BUS STOP SIGN in the smaller size (10.5'' x 10'' - 27cm x 25cm) which were located in runners on the roofs of bus shelters in the 1950s/60s. This is the 'Bus & Coach Compulsory' version80 - other variants are also listed in today's sale - and is in excellent condition. [1] 235 1921 'Inner Area MAP of the Electric Railways of London', a pocket-sized card issue designed by MacDonald Gill using his own personalised style of calligraphy for the station names and key box text. Light 300wear to the covers but a firm and crisp example in good condition. [1] See lot 331 for the paper, full-sized version of this map. 236 Enamel 'bullseye' STOCK-NUMBER PLATE from 1938 London Underground P-stock, later OP, trailer (A-end) 013092. These plates were located above the inter-connecting doors at each end of the car. In very120 good ex-car condition. [1] 237 British Railways, Southern Region flanged ENAMEL SIGN ' WIMBLEDON AND HOLBORN VIADUCT'. Believed to have been located at a station on the Sutton Loop. Holborn Viaduct station was closed in 1990.200 Size 48'' x 18'' (123cm x 46cm). Some chips to the lettering (restored) and the edges but generally in good condition. [1] 238 London Transport enamel bus stop E-PLATE for route 217B lettered 'Sunday Enfield Ninefields' and in red on white to signify a Sundays only service. Believed to have been located at either Chase Farm Hospital170 or Oakwood Station to which points the route was extended on Sundays in the late 1970s/early 1980s. In very good ex-use condition. [1] 239 London Underground ENAMEL STATION SIGN for Chancery Lane, c1950s-60s. A 'bullseye' platform sign measuring 28'' x 22'' (71cm x 57cm) from this Central Line station opened by the Central London Railway130 in 1900. Some chips around the screw-holes and paint splashes at the top edge but otherwise very reasonable. [1] 240 1930s London Transport ENAMEL SIGN 'TROLLEYBUSES' with 3-flighted arrow of the classic 'pierced bullseye' design. A double-sided sign in its original alloy frame, believed to date from the introduction 2000of trolleybuses to replace trams in the mid-1930s and used in certain ex-Underground Group tramways areas. Not see at auction before, the only other known example is a damaged one in the LTM, Acton. In excellent condition. [1] 241 London Transport 1930s/40s enamel BUS STOP FLAG (compulsory) of the type with two enamel plates inside a bronze frame. This is one of the very early examples of its type, introduced in the 1930s, and140 evidenced by the larger, bold lettering as well as grey, rather than black, reverse sides of the plates. A very scarce example in very good condition, with polished brass frame and minor blemishes only. [1] 242 London Transport enamel bus stop Q-PLATE ''Queue this side for 486 - Queue other side for 480, 701, 725''. This would have been on a combined bus and Green Line coach stop in Dartford. ''The first passenger electric train on the Metropolitan Railway was driven by Mr Ellis with this key.'' A C Ellis was the then General Manager of the Met. This is the early post-WW2 design featuring the updated version of the LT bullseye design and was the final issue of these plates70 before they were discontinued in the 1950s. The original bus with this number entered service at Chelverton Road (AF) garage in 1940 and the last was one 500of seven painted green in 1955 for service at Hertford (HG) garage, this one even appearing on Green Line duty. This bus finished as a trainer at West Ham (WH) in 1963, being sent for scrap that year. Very reasonable, ex-vehicle condition.[1] 385 London Transport enamel bus stop E-PLATE for route 434 destinated East Grinstead, Dormansland, Edenbridge. Probably located at Crawley bus station or possibly at Three Bridges. In very good, ex-stop condition.280 [1] 386 ENAMEL BULLSEYE SIGN ''LONDON TRANSPORT'', a small 1950/60s plate (7 1/2'' x 4 1/2'' - 19cm x 11cm) from one of the large, red time-recording clocks which stood at the roadside for the conductor to hop110 off and insert a card to be punched, thereby obviating the need for a human controller at that point. One of a number in different colour schemes, these badges did away with the traditional griffins and the lettering on0 the bar but were not popular and the traditional designs subsequently returned. [1] 225 498 ''Pembroke'' driver's/conductor's CAP BADGE from this London independent bus company which operated from 1924-33, mainly with one bus and on routes 3A & 59A, the business passing to the LPTB in 300November 1933. Like several independents, the design of the badge closely followed the 'General' in both colour and use of the bar & circle. The badge is in used but very good. [1] 499 London Transport Advertising Department CAP BADGE as issued to bill-posters on the bus and underground systems from the 1930s to the 1950s. This is the earlier version of this badge with under and over-lining120 to the word 'Advertising'. In very good, lightly-used condition. See Lot 453 for the later issue of this badge.
