133 CAMILO JOSÉ CELA, CABALLERO BONALD Y LOS INICIOS DE PAPELES DE SON ARMADANS (1956-1958) CAMILO JOSÉ CELA, CABALLERO BONALD AND THE BEGINNINGS OF PAPELES DE SON ARMADANS (1956-1958) Julio Neira UNED (1956-1958) Resumen: En 1956, en pleno auge de la dictadura franquista, Camilo José Cela funda Papeles de Son Armadans en Palma de Mallorca con la pretensión de lograr una alta calidad literaria según el modelo de Revista de Occidente, la gran revista de preguerra (1923-1936) creada por José Ortega y Gasset. Para ello cuenta con la ayuda del poeta José Manuel Caballero Bonald, que actúa como subdirector y agente de la publicación en Madrid. Los contactos de ambos posibilitan una de Son Armadans Papeles amplia nómina de colaboradores de primer nivel, que, junto a la incorporación de autores exiliados y la presencia de todas las literaturas peninsulares, hacen de la revista la principal referencia intelectual de las décadas del 50 y del 60 en España. En el ámbito de la poesía, debe destacarse su atención a las nuevas promociones (Barral, Gil de Biedma, Goytisolo, etc.) y la voluntad de recuperar a los autores del Veintisiete en su conjunto, incluyendo a los más olvidados Cernuda, Prados y Altolaguirre. Se estudian los tres primeros años de la revista, hasta que motivos personales produjeron la ruptura de esa colaboración entre el novelista gallego y el poeta andaluz. Exit Exam for Spanish Majors
“TUTORIAL FOR GRADUATING MAJORS” SPANISH 3500 This course prepares majors for the completion of their requirements in the B.A. in Spanish through advising by a designated professor. The course concludes with the Written Exit Exam, a 2-hour long comprehensive exam written in Spanish. 1 credit. Pass/Fail. The exam is made up of 3 parts: 1) Literature (40 minutes);2) Culture/Civilization (40 minutes); 3) Advanced Grammar/Phonetics (40 minutes). In literature and in civilization, the candidate receives 10 topics, to choose 6 of them, and to write a paragraph for each. In Advanced Grammar/Phonetics some choices also occur, according to specific instructions. Approximately one month prior to the Written Exit Exam (scheduled during final exams week), an oral mid-term exam occurs. Both the mid-term and the final exams are based on “The Topics Lists” (see attached), and the guidance given by the “designated professor”. A jury made up of three professors examines the candidate in both cases. If the candidate fails one of the 3 parts of the written exam, that part may be retaken within 7- 10 days of the initial exam IN the same semester. PART ONE: LITERATURA I. Una aproximación al homenaje de Papeles de Son Armadans … UNA APROXIMACIÓN AL HOMENAJE DE PAPELES DE SON ARMADANS A LOS 60 AÑOS DE DÁMASO ALONSO: EL CÓMO, EL QUIÉN Y LOS TEXTOS RODRIGO PARDO FERNÁNDEZ Universidad de Granada Resumen Este trabajo pretende destacar distintas propuestas para el estudio y la comprensión de la figura de Dámaso Alonso, a partir de una aproximación al proyecto de Camilo José Cela, desde la revista Papeles de Son Armadans , y Emilio Prados de realizar una antología de la Generación del 27, que al cabo se concretó sólo en un homenaje a Vicente Aleixandre, Dámaso Alonso y Federi- co García Lorca, en conmemoración de sus 60 años (1898-1958). JUAN RAMÓN JIMÉNEZ EN CARMEN CONDE DANIEL PINEDA NOVO Doctor en Filosofía y Letras por la Universidad de Sevilla I.- VIDA, AMISTAD Y POESÍA ' En Febrero de 1983, conocí, personalmente, en Sevilla, a esta activa y medite rránea mujer. Yo la admiraba por sus libros y disertaciones en Televisión. Ya habíamos hablado por teléfono y nos habíamos carteado, pero, al tenerla frente a frente, me impactó su porte señorial, su vitalidad, su carácter, su palabra... Era mujer de mediana estatura, de facciones nobles, de ojos oscuros sin llegar a negros, de pelo plateado, de voz grave y directa, de amena conversación y sonrisa amable a flor de labios, a pesar de los recuerdos imborrables de la Guerra incivil. Vino amablemente a Sevilla a presentar mi libro, popularísimo, Las Folklóricas (Sevilla, Editorial Coponca, 1983), al que había puesto bello Prólogo -. Se presentó la obra como un gran acontecimiento público y como un atrayente especial para los medios de comunicación, en el famoso Hotel Los Lebreros, que acababa de ser expropiado a RUMASA... Y resultó un magnífico acontecimiento sociocultural, por lo atractivo de la ilustre presentadora y por las personalidades del mundo de la canción y del arte, que acudieron al acto. Centro Universitario Internacional LIT 367E Nobel Prizes in Spanish and Latin American Literature: A Critical Approach Professor: Natalia Cousté Ph.D Course information: Office: Bldg 25 (CUI-UPO) Spring 2020 Email: [email protected] Monday and Wednesday Office Hours: Monday & Wednesday 13:30-14:30hrs 12 – 13:20hrs or by appointment Course Description Annually since its foundation, the Nobel Prize in literature has awarded the contributions of men and women from many different languages and cultures. However, its history is one of controversy: major authors have been ignored by the Swedish Academy. The study will be carried out from a critical and comparative perspective within a historical and literary context. The Generation of 1927, Post- Spanish Civil War narrative or Magical Realism among other great literary tendencies will be included. Course Goals and Methodology The aim of this course is to analyze the life and the works of the Spanish and Latin American Literature Nobel Prize Winners and the Academy’s reasons for its choices. The methodology of the course will be based on lectures that will have both a theoretical component and a practical component. On the one hand, the instructor will give a set of lectures. On the other hand, students are expected to participate in in- class debates and activities about a number of readings. Learning Objectives Through this course, students will: • Be able to develop and carry out research projects, to articulate them within appropriate conceptual and methodological frameworks, and to locate, evaluate, organize, and incorporate information. • Acquire familiarity with a wide range of literary terms and categories relating to literary history, theory, and criticism, including figurative language and prosody. -

Clefts and Bridges of Eros : East and West Side Story of the Poetry of Octavio Paz EMIL VOLEK Eyes that can see Oh what a rarity. -William Carlos Williams Towards the end of the forties, Octavio Paz (b. 1914), who was already then considered one of the most distinguished Mexican writers, entered his "violent season:" turning his back on the cherished mentors from the Contemporaneos group, he abandoned their brand of "pure poetry"-following the postsymbolist line of Paul Valery and Juan Ramon Jimmez-for one of the most virulent and daring movements of the avant-garde: surrealism. I Actually, what is surprising is that it took him so long: as he himself recalls it to Guibert (213), he came in contact with surrealists as early as 1938; during the war (Btisqueda 63), he established close friendship with their "colony" in Mexico and, when the war ended, he associated himself with their group in France. This was not the first time that surrealism was used by a leading Hispanic poet to exorcise a diehard tradition. In the late twenties, some ofthe brightest members of the so- called "Generation of 1927" -like Federico Garcia Lorca, Vicente Aleixandre, Luis Cemuda or Rafacl Alberti-took up its challenge and exploded the very same tradition of "pure !P~" which had shaped their poetic beginnings. In either case, the aesthetic lesson of "pure poetry" was not completely forgotten and left its imprint on the following surrealist phase.2 However, the historical parallel ends here: while in Spain the surrealist craze was thwarted by the oncoming cataclysms of the thirties, for Paz, the "violent season" of the fifties was but a way-station towards an even more experimental and explosive period of the sixties and seventies. -

Po piętnastu latach przerwy KSzwedzka Akademia uhonorowała Nagrodą Nobla autora wierszy, tym razem szwedzkiego poetę Tomasa Transtrómera, którego niekrzykliwa i wyrafinowana twórczość jest jak łyk źródla nej wody. Osiemdziesięcioletniego Szweda na Noblowskim Parnasie poprzedzili poeci: Wisława Szymborska (1996), Seamus Heaney (95), Derek Walcott (92) Josif Brodski (87), Jaroslav Seifert (84), Czesław Miłosz (80), Odyseas Elitis (79), Vicente Aleixandre (77) oraz Eugenio Montale (75). Mimo wszystko, to niemało jak na trzy i pół dekady. Właśnie z tej radości i dumy ludzi piszących także wierszem powitaliśmy Państwa utworem świeżo upieczonego Noblisty. Czy znajdziemy w jego słowach, jak chciał Czesław Miłosz, oca lenie lub choćby - ukojenie? Nie wiadomo. Nikt już bowiem nie zaprzecza, że Europa zbliża się do wielkiego kryzysu, który zapowiada widmo nieodległego bankructwa Grecji. -

Ivan Garcia [email protected] OBJECTIVES The aim of this Course is to explore the interaction of History and Literature, using as a point of departure an historical event which has had wide-ranging effects upon Spanish literary output: the Civil War of 1936. An overview of the cultural and literary context of the nineteen thirties will be provided, as well as of the evolution of the Civil War and its consequences for Spanish Literature between the nineteen forties and the present day. In this way, what will be sought after is a clearer understanding of the contemporary literary scenario via its development during the second half of the twentieth century. Methodology A theoretical-practical approach will be adopted in class sessions: the input-lecture on each syllabus point will be enhanced by the discussion of the readings which have been selected. Syllabus 1. The socio-political context: from Republic to Dictatorship. The antecedents of the Civil War. 2. The Spanish Civil War: literature within Spain and the literature of exile. 3. The Civil War and the contemporary Spanish novel: from the post-war period to the present day. - Narrative written from within exile: La cabeza del cordero by Francisco Ayala. - The Novel in Spain: Los santos inocentes by Miguel Delibes and La voz dormida by Dulce Chacon. 4. The Civil War and Drama: from the post-war period to the present time. - The drama of protest and grievance: Historia de una escalera by Antonio Buero Vallejo.
