There are several reasons for this. Previously, this was the seat of the Lazar counts aristocracy. Lazar Lukac, an Armenian from Erdelj, has bought in 1781. the huge property from the Vienna palace and was the founder of the family which ruled Ecka for whole 160 years. Their castle "Kastel", which was raised in the English style, has become the center of the social and cultural life greater than in the Beckerek itself. In this settlement, in which Serbs and Rumanians live in harmony for ages, the attention of a guest should be paid to the three buildings of spiritual and building culture: Serbian and Rumanian Orthodox and Catholic church. From Ecka you reach the same-named fishpond quickly [2 km], which is famous in Europe. Finally, Ecka has a significant place on the Fine Arts map of Yugoslavia. For four decades there is an Art Colony here and a collection of modern art today contains more than two thousand paintings and is being enriched every year. __________________________________________________________ Kastel Ecka An aristocracy castle of the Lazar counts in Ecka was built in 1820. by Lazar Agoston. Serbia Serbia has connected West with East for centuries a land in which civilisations, cultures, faiths, climates and landscapes meet and mingle. It is located in the centre of the Balkan Peninsula, in southeastern Europe. The northern portion belongs to central Europe, but in terms of geography and climate it is also partly a Mediterranean country. Serbia is landlocked but as a Danube country it is connected to distant seas and oceans. Serbia is a crossroads of Europe and a geopolitically important territory. The international roads and railway lines, which run through the countrys river valleys, form the shortest link between Western Europe and the Middle East. From the agricultural regions of the Pannonian Plain in the north, across the fertile river valleys and orchard-covered hills of umadija, the landscape of Serbia continues southward, gradually giving way to mountains rich in canyons, gorges and caves, as well as well-preserved forests.
