The mission of Jackson Hole Chamber of Commerce is to champion the interests of local business. In a community like Jackson Hole, the variety of programs and initiatives that we employ to accomplish this mission are as unique as the Members of our Chamber. In the last year, the Jackson Hole Chamber of Commerce has marked a number of milestones. A leading indicator of the strength of our programs, the Jackson Hole Chamber of Commerce earned Four Star Accreditation with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce placing the organization among the top 2% of Chambers in the United States. Membership is at an all-time high with over 40% market penetration, more than double the national average. As the home to America’s best idea, Yellowstone National Park, the Jackson Hole Chamber of Commerce has led the charge for Teton County to be recognized as a Global Sustainable Tourism Council Early Adopter, only one of six world-wide and the first Chamber to become certified sustainable. The Jackson Hole Chamber of Commerce has also been fortunate to work with the Jackson Hole Travel & Tourism Joint Powers Board to strengthen and invigorate our economy through successful events, progressive and proactive visitor services and dynamic domestic and international destination sales. Additionally, through strong community collaboration and outreach programs such as Great Until 8, Buy Local and others we are uniting a community around viable initiatives for the businesses of Jackson Hole. The Chamber is fiscally well positioned and is committed to being your business advocate. I would personally invite you to peruse the following pages and learn about the story of the Jackson Hole Chamber of Commerce and Fiscal Year 2011-12. Our Members and our community are invited to reach out to me and to other members of the Jackson Hole Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and Staff. United States Chamber of Commerce Four Star Accreditation
The Jackson Hole Chamber of Commerce received a Four Star Accreditation by the US Chamber of Commerce. This places the Jackson Hole Chamber of Commerce in the top 2% of 6,936 chambers of commerce in the United States. The Jackson Hole Chamber of Commerce is the only accredited chamber of commerce in Wyoming and part of an elite group of 152 chambers of com- merce nationwide that have been validated by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Accreditation Program as “having solid programs, demonstrating clear organiza- tional procedures, and as being a catalyst for positive action in the community.” The US Chamber of Commerce stated, “The Jackson Hole Chamber of Commerce has demonstrated a good track record of operating a successful chamber and achieving desirable results for its members. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is proud to accredit the Jackson Hole Chamber of Commerce with our 4-Star designation. Congratulations on this remarkable achievement!” The Jackson Hole Chamber of Commerce improved upon its Three Star Accreditation in 2006. Former Jackson Hole Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Tim O’Donoghue stated, “Since 2006, we have worked at continuous improvement of our Member services, organizational capabilities and performance, and effectiveness at championing the interests of local businesses, enhancing their prosperity, strengthening the economic climate of Teton County, and being an active contributor to the interests of business in the State of Wyoming. Global Sustainable Tourism Council Eary Adopters Program
Teton County, Wyoming was selected by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) to participate in the Sustainable Tourism Destination Early Adopters Program. The GSTC represents the world’s leading travel compa- nies, hotels, country tourism boards and tour operators, and agencies of the United Nations including the UN World Tourism Organization, UN Environment Program, and UN Foundation. With 24 cosigning federal agencies, local government, businesses, and nonprofits, the Cham- ber applied for Teton County to be one of the destinations chosen by the GSTC to launch the most widely accepted sustainable tourism criteria and certification standards developed for destinations. These criteria and standards address sustainable destination management; maximizing social and economic benefits to the host community and minimizing negative impacts; maximizing benefits to communities, visitors and cultural heritage and minimizing negative impacts; and maximizing benefits to the environment.
Sustainable Travel International Bronze Certification
The Jackson Hole Chamber of Commerce earned the Sustainable Travel International (STI) Bronze certification. The Jackson Hole Chamber of Commerce is the first Chamber or Destination Marketing Organization to become certified in the world by STI’s Sustainable Tourism Education Program. Joining an elite international group, the Chamber also celebrates the efforts of Alpine House Country Inn and Spa, Grand Teton Lodge Company, and the Wort Hotel for participating in Sustainable Travel International’s eco-certification program. This program recognizes the Chamber and these businesses for being sustainable and responsible businesses with best practices that address environmental, economic, and social impacts guided by the philosophy of the triple bottom line: people, planet, profit. Individual businesses and organizations may complete the STI certification process to become more sustainable, enjoy the economic benefits of becoming more sustainable, and show a commitment to sus- tainable travel and to leverage efforts to reach consumers concurrent with Teton County’s work with the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) to participate in the Sustainable Tourism Destination Early Adopters Program. The Jackson Hole Chamber of Commerce believes that special events celebrate the cultural heritage and spirit of our community that delights local residents and attracts visitors. The Jackson Hole Chamber of Commerce Special Events Department is proud to partner with the Jackson Hole Travel & Tourism Joint Powers Board to support some of the key festivals and events throughout the year. Successful events in the 2011-12 Fiscal Year will receive continued support in the next year.

The Jackson Hole Travel & Tourism Joint Powers Board shows a committment to connecting visitors with the resources they need before they arrive and when they are in town. The Jackson Hole Chamber of Commerce Visitor Services Department represents a vital connection to visitors. Agents connect these visitors and many potential visitors with Chamber Members who will provide lodging, activities, dining, and more! The Jackson Hole Travel & Tourism Board supports key Visitor Ser- vices activities. Funding was primarily used for staffing at visitor center locations in the Jackson Hole Chamber of Commerce Administrative Office near Town Square and at the Jackson Hole & Greater Yellowstone Visitor Center on North Cache. Visi- tor Services agents provided assistance to more than 329,000 people who asked for business resources while in Jackson Hole, including the visitors who generated more than $559 million in destination spending in Teton County.
Destination Sales & Marketing
The Jackson Hole Chamber of Commerce Destination Sales and Marketing Committee is proud to have worked with the Jackson Hole Travel & Tourism Board to secure funding to attend Travel Trade Shows on behalf of the community in 2012- 13. The target audiences include Group Business, Individual Incentive Programs, International Business, Tour Operators, Consumers, Tour Bus Businesses. As tourism is increased, all businesses and the community can benefit economically. There are opportunities to get involved with upcoming shows. Power of Place • Old Bill’s Fun Run: This award is for those individuals and families with long-term demonstrated respect for the power of place we call Jackson Hole through dedicated, effective and exceptional action to ensure the vitality of our economy, community, and environment, our triple bottom line. Old Bill’s Fun Run is an outstanding example of community philanthropy. One nomination letter explained, “Fifteen years ago, Mr. and Mrs. Old Bill had an idea that changed the course of philanthropy and profoundly affected all of our lives by inspiring all of us to invest in local nonprofits to enrich the entire community. Old Bill’s Fun Run has raised a staggering $82.5 million for Jackson Hole nonprofits and one out of every three households participates.” The fun run has become a not-to-be-missed -an nual community celebration supported by a committee comprised of 25 representatives from local nonprofits.
Citizen of the Year • Herb & Amy Brooks: This award is based on activities benefiting the greatest number of people in the area, a singular accomplishment of great benefit to the community, or continuing service to the com- munity over a period of time. Herb & Amy Brooks volunteer for a variety of organizations, including Jackson Food Cupboard, Jackson Hole Recycling Center/Integrated Solid Waste and Recycling, Jackson Hole Boy Scouts, and St. John’s Outreach.
Green-to-Green • Jackson Hole Mountain Resort: This award is for the business that has shown a commitment to the environment by prescribing to innovative and effective environmentally conscious business practices. Jackson Hole Mountain Resort (JHMR) has set a high environmental standard for ski resorts of any size in North America by developing an ISO 14001 registered Environmental Management System (EMS) and maintaining the program under external review by KPMG for more than six years. One nomination letter commended the “commitment to ‘greening’ their operations” along with the “creativity and enthusiasm” in their approach to sustainability efforts.
Rising Star • Joe Madera: This award is for the individual, under the age of 40, who is blazing the streets of Jackson with their innovation and service – both professionally and personally. Joe Madera has been recognized for professional excellence in his role as the General Manager of Homewood Suites by Hilton Jackson Hole while also exemplifying a spirit of volunteerism that makes a difference every day in Jackson Hole. One nomination letter stated, “It is important to note Joe does not just participate, he leads grassroots efforts.” Joe volunteers for a variety of organizations, including the Rotary Lunch Club and Rotary Wine Fest, Wyoming Lodging & Restaurant Association’s Educational Foundation Board and Executive Committee, Central Wyoming College Advisory Board, the Jackson Hole Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and Marketing Committee, Jackson Hole Elk’s Club, and more. The nomination letter stressed that “Joe does not just pitch in; he contributes with extreme professionalism and commitment.”
Howdy Pardners Western Hospitality Award • Jackson Hole Jaycees: This award is for an individual or busi- ness who has repeatedly shown the visiting public what Jackson hospitality is all about. The Howdy Pardners Ambas- sador Club is pleased to recognize the Jackson Hole Jaycees, the young professionals group that works with events and projects to promote community service, social activities, and personal development. The Jaycees help to make Jackson Hole a festive destination throughout the year. In the winter they work with local businesses and organizations to hang seasonal garlands and in the summer they present the “Fire in the Hole” fireworks show.
