Teton County Board of County Commissioners Jackson Town Council Mayor Mark Barron P0 Box 3594 Jackson, WY 83001
Dear Sirs and Madam:
I write to express my interest in becoming a member of the new Jackson Hole Travel & Tourism Joint-Powers Board.
I believe my marketing, financial, and Teton County board experience will assist the new board in effectively exercising its powers and duties, while achieving its goals.
As treasurer of Teton County’s Integrated Solid Waste & Recycling Division Advisory Board, I’ve spent five-plus years providing fiscal and budgetary oversight on a $3.5 million operating budget. I would like to provide the same type of financial supervision to our Travel & Tourism Board to assure that our lodging tax funds are spent wisely, prudently, for the purposes intended, and within budget.
Prior to moving to Jackson Hole in 1994 I spent seven years in sales and marketing management positions conceiving, planning, executing, and following-up on numerous promotional, print, and direct marketing campaigns to managers and executives in businesses of all sizes throughout the globe.
While my primary focus since moving to Jackson Hole has been in the areas of finance and banking, I’ve complemented my prior promotion and marketing experience with three years of booking guest reserVations at the front desk at Signal Mountain Lodge in Grand Teton National Park, a stint at Snow King Resort’s front desk, as well as time as theMarketing Project Manager for Teton Data Systems.
I’m eager to apply and build on this marketing and promotion background, while keeping an eye on the financial details, for the purpose of achieving the highest level of travel and tourism in Teton County and the Town of Jackson for the dollars spent.
I have attached a resume with additional details for your review.
Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
Daniel V. Buc an

RE: Joint Powers Tax Board
Dear Mayor Barron, Chairman Ellis, members of the Board of County Commissioners of Teton County, Wyoming, and the Council of the Town of Jackson, Wyoming:
Please accept this letter and other information attached as my formal application for a seat on the Jackson/Teton County Lodging Tax Board.
For the past 41 years I have spent my working career effectively doing exactly what this Board is tasked to accomplish, driving winter and shoulder season visitations. Details of work history and responsibilities are attached. What may not come through in my resume is that the majority of my working career was working in a remote location in the western mountain of Maine. The similarities to Jackson are quite high, small community, off the beaten path, dedicated community with high dependence on tourism. I have dealt with small and large businesses always focusing on how businesses can work together for the good of the whole. Besides working for major ski destinations I have started several small businesses as you will see in attach work history document.
Since June of 2009, I have been the Chief Marketing Officer for Jackson Hole Mountain Resort where I am responsible for establishing marketing and sales strategies and objectives for each department, product and services currently offered as well as identifying and creating new products and services to meet customer arid company needs.
Snow Conditions 888-DEEP SNO www.jacksonhole.com E-mail [email protected] Before coming to Jackson Hole, I was Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing and an officer of the American Skiing Company, headquartered in Park City, Utah. My responsibilities included providing strategic pians and direction while overseeing the marketing and sales for the 8 resorts the company owned. The resorts were: Steamboat, Colorado; The Canyons, Utah; Killington, Mount Snow and Pico in Vermont; Attitash, New Hampshire and Sunday River and Sugarloaf in Maine.
Though not a board member of either JH Air or Jackson Hole Central Reservation I have participated in these two important community-based business organizations by attending board and committee meetings to provide input and updates. The primary goal of my involvement is to work cooperatively with area businesses to grow the overall visitation to our region. Calls to local lodging properties will support my efforts to help their properties increase business, an indication that I am not singularly focused on JHMR.
As a member of the Board of Directors for the Park City Chamber and Visitor Bureau I served on their executive board for 6 years. The Chamber was charged with creating and executing a strategic marketing and sales plan funded by the county’s Transient Room Tax which is very similar to Jackson Hole’s Lodging Tax and its use.
As you examine my special event history please understand that nearly all the events were scheduled in shoulder seasons (ApriL May, June, Sept and October) to drive business during the non-peak times.
I believe strongly that my experience in destination marketing will be an asset to the Jackson/Teton County Lodging Tax Board. Personally, I would be honored to serve the community of Jackson Hole in this role.
Sincerely, Chre7 Chief Marketing Officer

Dear Joint Board Members,
Please accept my application for the JHTT Board Appointment. Below is a brief description of my experience that relates specifically to the qualifications set forth in the statement policy for the JHTT board.
Experience: • Elected and served four years as a Teton County Commissioner and liaison to the Chamber of Commerce. • Served Ten years on the Board of the Chamber of Commerce. • Owned, managed, and worked in the Retail, Restaurant, Lodging, Development, Housing Rentals, and the Service business Industry.
• 34 years of businesses ownership and experience on The Town Square, where I have consistently worked with other businesses, individuals and community entities to promote Jackson Hole in the winter, the off, and shoulder business season. • Broad community involvement, with a deep understanding of our community, values, and our economy. • As an individual, past public servant, and community member, I’m committed to the community and its values. My past valley record is a clear reflection of that.
• I understand the intricacy and the complexity of our community, and as a board
member, I would work closely with the rest of the board. I know that with honest communication and transparency, we as a board will be able to build and gain the trust of the whole community and its leadership. • I’ma visionary, entrepreneur, fiscally responsible, out of the box thinker, with unconventional international experience and old value perspectives.
Though this source of tax income is very small compared to the city and county budgets, and much smaller than the SPET income, I believe the way this resource is spent will be pivotal to the health of the community and can easily throw our community values off balance if not managed correctly.
I believe the proceeds of this tax need to be used in a transparent manner, and should almost be considered medicine for our economy to boost tourism in the off and shoulder seasons. Like medicine, we should spend the money in a timely, but measured manner in proportion to the amount needed for the job at hand. The purpose should be specific, and should be used to promote the right place at the right time, and the results should be measured and inspected closely to ensure a positive outcome. This resource must provide a first class visitor experience, improve our quality of life, and provide benefit for our entire community. to was especially • was Los curriculum For • organizations, management changing marketing I potential management, details Commons have visitors, events. organizations of Teton • Statement I could Board. I have presented and promoted numerous performance events in Teton County. • In-depth experience in recreational, arts, cultural, geo/eco-tourism and emerging markets and trends in these fields Yes — This is my strongest qualification. I believe my experience, knowledge and record of innovation in the field of cultural tourism is exceptional. I have been active in strengthening cultural tourism and heritage tourism in Teton County since the mid-1990’s. I served as Project Manager (and first Executive Director) for the Center for the Arts for thirteen years (1991-2003), overseeing the long process of building community support and partnerships, acquiring the site, design and fundraising for construction. I understood that the Center for the Ails would and should play a pivotal role in strengthening cultural tourism in our community, as a way to serve wider community goals as well as cultural development goals. “Putting the arts to work” was a key component of planning for the new Center. As part of this planning, I conducted Teton County’s first study of the economic impact of the arts (2000) and a preliminary study of cultural tourism opportunities. I received a Governors Arts Award for my role in the creation of the Center for the Arts
In 2004, 1founded Vista 360°, a non-profit organization which supports and promotes the cultures and communities of mountain people around the world. Vista 360° has a focus on supporting cultural and heritage tourism development in mountain regions as a strategy for sustainable development and community well-being. In Teton County, our program objective is to help develop our identity as a world center for mountain cultures. We see this program as a way to strengthen international tourism in our area. To this end, we produce the Jackson Hole Fire Festival every other year in June, which is a cultural exchange between our region and the Mt. Fuji region of Japan. Out goal is to expand the Jackson Hole Fire Festival to become an annual celebration of mountain cultures around the world and an anchor for a year-round tourism services program focused on serving international visitors with an interest in mountain life. We also work in the field of heritage tourism for Teton County, celebrating our own heritage. In 2010, we produced the Yellowstone Food and Heritage Festival in June. in collaboration with several Teton County partners. as a first step toward expanding our heritage tourism programs. This program also includes an emphasis on understanding and celebrating our community’s global leadership in the culture of conservation. My job as Executive Director of Vista 360° includes both new program development and partnership development to enhance Teton County’s cultural tourism and heritage tourism services, defining “culture” in the broadest way possible. My job also includes ongoing research and study in the field of cultural tourism “best practices”. As part of this effort, I have traveled to both Santa Fe and Asheville, North Carolina to study their national models for cultural tourism, especially the role of cultural festivals. I have also kept myself current in the work of the United Nations World Tourism Organization, which has developed global standards for sustainability for tourism activities, and work closely with the UN Mountain Partnership. • Experience in national park marketing No • General marketing experience in Jackson Hole Yes — I have extensive experience marketing cultural events since 1995. including marketing for Center for the Arts cultural programs and fundraising special events, festival
2 events and other Vista 360° cultural programs. such as a concert series. This marketing was directed toward both residents and visitors using the full range of marketing tools. Knowledge of the community and experience on local boards Yes— I’m active in many aspects of community life. In addition to working in the fields
of arts and culture. I also have extensive experience in other fields. PLANNING I served on the Jackson Planning Commission for four years and was the Coordinator for the Jackson/Teton County Comprehensive Plan process for 8 months in 1993-94. During the 1990’s, I was also active in a number of citizen initiatives to support planning in Teton County, including the Downtown Citizens Initiative. SOCIAL ISSUES I am currently Chairman of the Board of Directors for Jackson Hole Elders, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing alternatives to nursing home care for Teton County elders. PHILANTHROPY I served as Acting Director of the Community Foundation of Jackson Hole during an Executive Search (1997) and also assisted them with national marketing for Old Bill’s Fun Run. I’ve worked as a planning and development consultant for many community and statewide organizations, including Teton County Library, the Jackson Hole Conservation Alliance, Grand Teton Music Festival and the Wyoming Arts Council and am a member of the Wyoming Folklife Coalition. • A resident of Teton County. familiar with our community values and economy Yes -- I have lived in Teton County since 1989 and began visiting here regularly in 1980, more than thirty years of experience in our valley. I have an extensive knowledge of the economic dynamics of the non-profit sector and also co-own and co-operate a small business here in Jackson. The business, High Design, is a fashion marketing enterprise focused on launching the brands of talented young fashion designers from mountain regions in the developing world. • Commitment to and comfort with Board transparency Yes
I understand the great potential of arts and culture to enhance visitor experience and also to contribute to sustainable tourism, i.e. harnessing tourism to protect and strengthen the community assets we hold most dear. I understand culture to include all of our diverse activities. including the robust (and noisy) practice of our culture of conservation. I have a deep knowledge of our arts. heritage and creative economy sectors, as well as the challenges facing small businesses. I have a strong background in strategic planning and partnership development.
I would like to see us strengthen those sectors of geotourism now less well-developed in Teton County, drawing on proven success in other places. As a member of the Lodging Tax Board, I would seek to encourage broad community participation in strengthening and enhancing our visitor services as an important component of destination marketing — in offering rewarding and memorable experiences to our visitors, for the mutual benefit of visitors and residents alike.
Thank you kindly for your consideration of this application.
Sincerely yours.

Re: Jackson Hole Travel & Tourism Joint Powers Board - letter of application
I believe I have the experience and relationships appropriate to make a very positive contribution to the Jackson Hole Travel & Tourism Joint Powers Board. For about the last 20 years. I have focused my career on building strong personal relationships. marketing and sales. public relations and communications. I have run my own business and worked for large membership organizations. Here are some of the highlights of that experience. My detailed resume is attached.
Wyoming Network: Most recently I have launched a brand new initiative to create a donor development strategy for The Wyoming Humanities Council. This part time position was created to assist the Council in major donor cultivation, solicitation and recognition programs including corporate sponsors. My main task is to help the Council weave together a marketing and fundraising strategy to enhance the level of awareness of the good work the Council does in Wyoming. As part of this new initiative I work closely with the Wyoming Cultural Trust Director, board members, and many partners throughout Wyoming.
• Arts & Culture Network: I am an active board member of The cultural council of Jackson Hole. As a board member, I also serve as an advisor of the new Jackson Hole Public Arts Initiative with Public Art Administrator. Carrie Geraci. As the Sales & Marketing Director of Off Square Theatre Company COST”), in residence at the Jackson Hole Center for the Arts. I started from scratch to build an electronic web based brand, sales and marketing campaign. I have enjoyed collaboration with many members of the board of directors who represent the heart of the philanthropic theatre arts community in Jackson Hole. I developed innovative business partnerships to market theatre locally, regionally and nationally. Every year since OST moved into the Center for the Arts, I successfully created new actions and incentives to reach the theatre audience and develop new and lasting theatre patrons, sponsors and donors.
• Jackson Hole Business Network:
As the Sales & Marketing Director for The Jackson Hole Chamber of Commerce. I provided the inspiration and management leadership to create the Chamber’s first in house magazine, The Jackson Hole Explorer®. I helped to grow Chamber membership and revenues by taking that magazine electronic. The Explorer Online vastly added value to member listings and advertisements by connecting with the World Wide Web. I also implemented the concept of a year round presence for Jackson Hole in national and regional markets by strategic placement of advertising and high quality advertising. Therefore, we consistently and professionally marketed the new brand of the Chamber and Jackson Hole, to elevate the meaning of Respecting the Power of Place®. I helped to expand all Chamber events with new partnerships and revenue generating developments including:
r creating Taste of the Tetons® where we invited all Valley restaurants to participate on the Town Square r partnering with the dinner Rotary Club to include the wine tasting and silent auction > launching of the Fall Arts Festival Signature® wine with The Liquor Store > starting the Old West Days Brewfest® > initiation of high quality Jackson Hole Stage Stop tourism opportunity > moving the Mountain Man Rendezvous to Snow King and then to the Teton County Fair Grounds r working with the International Dog Sled Race to expand the festive offerings on the Town Square. r partnered with the founder of the Jackson Hole Weliness Festival to create: Jackson Hole Destination Weilness® r ® indicates the lasting value of new initiatives, registered by the JH Chamber ED.
In addition, I wrote the annual marketing plan and managed the budget for ALL of these events, sales, communication and marketing deparirnents. In summary. the new sources of revenue generated by these initiatives and partnerships I helped to create or initiate remain of solid value to the JH Chamber of Commerce.
a Valuable Tourism Experience: As a Marketing Manager at the prestigious Santa Fe Opera, I developed the annual marketing
plans and managed those plans and budgets to achieve ambitious net income goals. I worked closely with the strategic planning director and group sales manager to create a powerful sales strategy and the first successful major corporate sponsorship initiatives. These income development incentives continue to support the work of the Santa Fe Opera.
Finally, my work as founder and manager of Mosaic in Motion, a non-profit professional and ethnic dance company, gave me extensive experience in grant writing, grant research and perfomiance collaboration with many businesses and government organizations. During that time we received the Governor’sAward for Excellence in the4rts in Colorado.
My work at The Wyoming Humanities Council, the Off Square Theatre Company, the Jackson Hole Chamber of Commerce and continuing service on The Jackson Hole Cultural Council board of directors, have all helped to move forward a vision for Jackson Hole as a World Class Destination. I look forward to discussing my experience with you.

I respectfully submit my application for appointment to the Jackson Hole Travel and Tourism Joint Powers Board. Its composition should reflect diversity and experience, qualities which will bring strcngth. balance, and perspective to the newly t&rned group. I hope, and feel, that my qualifications, dedication, and experience will contribute meaningfully to this important effort.
Wc have a responsibility to the people of Jackson Hole and Teton County to use their doLlars wisely to effectively promote our community and preserve its amazing attributes. Jackson Hole is a unique community and I feel honored and privileged to share in a legacy which began as a friendship /partnership between my parents. Frank and Patty Ewing and Dick and Barbara Barker in the early ‘60s. 1began working in our family business at age 14. over the years at every task from cooks helper, to reservationist. to drivcr. to guide, etc.. and have been a principal owner/operator of Barker- Ewing scenic and whitewater trips outside GTNP since 1998.
Born and raised in Jackson 1-lole,with Wyoming family roots that go back well over a hundred years. Jam committed to this community and the promotion and protection of its natural wonders. Jackson Hole is my life and livelihood! While Fpersonally operate a seasonal summer business that employs 50 or more seasonal and 3 year round employees, each year my goal is to extend our shoulder season business, both for the sake of increased company profitability and for longer employment for our crew. I feel that -e have a responsibility to promote all 12 months of the year for people ho come to Teton County and experience the magnificence we enjoy every day all year long. A strongcr fall-winter-spring economy that can sustain well qualified employees assures a stronger workforce and a more ba]anced economy throughout the year. As operator of Barker-Ewing River Trips, my marketing approach and experience has matured and grown more far reaching over the years. Our river trip clients, from age six to eighty, are drawn to the river for an exciting but safe participatory adventure, in a beautiful outdoor setting. They are not disappointed! What they don’t expect, and generally find compelling, is a seemingly casual but unexpectedly knowledgeable discourse about the flora, fauna, geology, and early human history of the Jackson Hole country. Successfully presented. this is a win/win situation for our business, and provides the visitor with a much broader spectrum of what to see, where to go, and what to do on this visit. Possibly it will pique their interest in another visit to Jackson Hole, perhaps in an entirely different season of the year. We are fortunate to have, and work hard to justify, the repeat business of many large worldwide tours groups such as Adventures by Disney and Backroads, among many others. Perhaps the Joint Powers Board can entice such groups to consider other recreational opportunities in Jackson 1-loleand Teton County during shoulder seasons.
My involvement with the Snake River Fund began with its inception in 1998 and I have been a board member since 2006. The planning of “Legends of the Snake” and the donation of our various company sites (in the Snake River Canyon and on the Snake near South Park) and our employees for its annual benefit is an ongoing ciToil. As a founding member of the “Summit on the Snake” I helped to spearhead the Headwater Institute grant proposals which funded the educational programs for the first “Summit” in 1999 and my commitment to this very successful annual program continues today.
1 supported the Proposition 8 SPET Tax Proposal and lent my voice and support to the campaign for the Lodging Tax. I am thrilled with the voter’s confidence in the new Lodging Tax and the potential for positive business growth. I sincerely appreciate the consideration of thc joint boards and look forward to discussing my participation with you further.
If chosen for Jackson Hole Travel and Tourism Joint Powers Board, I pledge an open mind, a willingness to learn, complete transparency, and a balanced approach combined with enthusiasm to work hard for Jackson Hole. /:/‘ (; i/L ¼ I-leather L. Board of County Commissioners
P0 Box 3594
Jackson, WY83001 Gentlemen:
I hereby make application for appointment to the Jackson Hole Travel and Tourism Joint Powers Board (JHTr)
As a tourist to Jackson Hole for 14 years, and now a resident, I submit the following for your consideration:
Qualifications:
Former President and CEOof mid size specialty chemical company catering to the major cosmetic companies of the world — P & G; L’Oreal, Avon, etc.
Experienced in global “branding” and brand awareness
Experienced in global marketing utilizing all facets including Social Media
Experienced in strategic planning — short and long term
Experienced in financial management
Experienced in negotiating and consensus building
Experienced in public presentations
Experienced in public service boards — private schools in Chicago, IL
Experienced as a frequent visitor to Jackson Hole gaining much insight from use of the varied recreational, public outings, lodging, restaurants, etc. available.
Neutral Party — no bias toward specific venues Comments and Commitment: As a home owner with my wife Molly Kellyand resident since mid 2010, I seek to utilize my strengths by engaging in public service to the community.
Through my experiences in Jackson Hole, I have come to appreciate the value and integrity of the community and applaud the outstanding school system, governance of the county and town, and attention to fostering a vibrant and intermixed community. The town and county offer much in the way of
resources, some of which I have tapped into in establishing a new business based in Jackson Hole.
As tourism is the lifeline in maintaining this quality of life, it is incumbent that it be promoted aggressively utilizing current resources such as the Chamber of Commerce, and fostering creativity and integration with resources not yet tapped.
In my view, the mission of JHTTis to “get ‘em here,” and understand the experiences of the visitors. Accentuate the positives and eliminate the negatives. Make Jackson Hole a point of destination — not just passing through to or from Yellowstone.
This is by no means an easy task. I have the time and energy to serve with others on the JHTTto be a part of achieving greater visitation especially in winter and shoulder months.
I look forward to further discussing my candidacy with you and the members of the Town Council at my personal interview.
Many thanks for your consideration. tnninfrr Contact Information:

I have lived in the valley for over 15 years now. I came here for the good life and never left. I graduated Cornell University Hotel & Restaurant Management School in 1996 with a degree in marketing and Food and Beverage. I am your guy for this position. I care about bringing people to Jackson and keeping them here. I care about their experience. All I have done is figure out ways to make money in the shoulder seasons. I have a catering company that does special events. I served on the board of the Teton Literacy program, JR land Trust, Off Square Theatre Company, Wyoming Restaurant & Lodging Association and a few others... I have dropped most of my commitments due to work, however I am ready to get back on a board where I can make a difference. I have 2 children and want to see them have the best recreational opportunities possible. I coached the JR high school soccer team for 5 years as a volunteer. I have since hired many of my former players. I have the marketing background and ability to get through to people that you want on this committee. I do not have an involvement in a Hotel, so I have no horse in the game. I can work with people as good as anyone, please give me this opportunity I believe I will make a difference. Gavin Fin will help promote Jackson and spend our tax dollars intelligently. Thank you for your time and look forward to the interview

Jackson Hole Travel & Tourism Joint Powers Board;
I have lived full time in Jackson Hole since graduating from Gettysburg College in 1997.
Since coming to Jackson I have worked exclusively in the food and beverage industry. I have been the managing partner of EFCWYwhich operates E.leaven Food Company on Center
Street since 2006. Prior to that, I was the general manager at the Cadillac Grille for 5 years and a server at the Cadillac Grille for three years before managing.
I am very familiar with and understand resorts markets and their shoulder season having lived in Virginia Beach or Jackson Hole my entire life. Through my restaurant I have been very involved with the Farmers Market and there planning and promotions. Over the past few years I have worked with Maureen Murphy and others on promotions with the Jackson Hole Chamber of Commerce. In addition to running all phases of our restaurant including financial, I have placed our homemade breads and pastries into 15 other retail restaurants and hotels, as well as three local grocery stores. Over the last three years I have worked with local snowmobile tour companies that have breakfast at E.leaven Food
Company and take our box lunches into the parks. I am constantly working with National
Tour groups such as Go Ahead tour and Globus which also eat with us. Last summer I was granted permission from the Jackson Hole Private Airport Board to deliver food to private planes which lead to a contract with Net Jets services.
I reside in Cotton Wood Park with my husband and two young children. This would be the first community board that I have served on. I see this as a good opportunity to utilize my skill set for the betterment of the community. With my strong people skills, my knowledge and understanding of retailing and knowing multitudes of people in the valley, I feel that I would make a very strong member of the Jackson/Teton County Lodging Tax Board.
Thank you for your consideration, Molly Frobouck 3/4/2011 Sc

Re: Application for Jackson Hole Travel &Tourism Joint Powers Board
Dear Councilors and Commissioners,
Having recently relocated to Jackson from Fishtail, Montana where I served as
a member of Montana’s Yellowstone Country Board, I have followed with interest the lodging tax initiativeand the process surrounding the creation of the new Jackson
Hole Travel & Tourism Joint Powers Board. I have a strong background in the hospitality industry and in project management where my work included marketing,
sales, promotion and publicity, yet I see my participation on the Yellowstone Country Board as of the most potential benefit to the JHTT Board.
The Yellowstone Country (YC) Board was created by Montana’s governor appointed Tourism Council. Itgeographically encompasses the five Montana counties that surround Yellowstone National Park and its primary role is to determine how that region’s share of lodging tax revenue is used to promote travel and tourism within the region. It is a non-profit corporation with its own bylaws but subject to Department of Commerce regulations in the use of accommodation tax funds. YC uses a variety of marketing and promotion methods including its own website (YellowstoneCountry.net), publications, joint ventures, consumer advertising, publicity, telemarketing and cooperative projects with area Chambers of Commerce and Visitor Information Centers. Areas of focus overall for YC included geotourism, winter and shoulder season promotion, extending stays within the region, promoting special events, and developing and promoting authentic travel experiences including cultural and historical events.
I served on the board for four years until my relocation to Wyoming
necessitated my resignation last July. As is typical, I served on various committees at different times. I chaired the marketing committee which was responsible for drafting the annual marketing plan and served on the Executive Committee; the Publicity Committee which included organizing and conducting press trips, and the Website committee which was responsible for prioritizingthe work of a full-time programmer, search engine optimization and website and layout changes.
A large portion of my career was in the hospitality industry which began with three years in Yellowstone National Park at four locations within the park working at the front desk, central reservations and retail management at Old Faithful Inn. After earning a Hotel, Lodging and Tourism Degree from Northern Arizona University while
working for the LittleAmerica chain, Ijoined Westin Hotels and then Four Seasons Hotels.
After opening the Four Seasons in Boston which was a mixed use property
comprised of 264 hotel rooms, 100 condominium residences, a spa and retail space I founded a consulting practice that specialized in supporting developers of mixed-use buildings. That led to interesting opportunities in international development project
management where my responsibilities included marketing and sales. In one year I brought in 50% of my firm’s new business. Mytechnical specialty in international development is helping local governments in the former Soviet Union and Eastern Europe improve service delivery and citizen participation. Typicallysuch projects include large public education and press components.
Both my work in the hotel industry and in international development provided experience in special event planning and promotion. Such events have ranged from sit down dinners for up to 2000, conferences for several hundred, press clubs, study tours for foreign counterparts to visit the U.S. and project tours for press and dignitaries. The scope of such work has ranged from concept development, logistics, and developing course materials to escorting tours.
As indicated in the attached brief form of my résumé, I have served on a number of civic and professional boards. Having taught citizen participation in my
international work I am practiced in embracing transparency and value it.
One of my family’s reasons for relocating to Jackson included my planned
transition from international development back into the hospitality industry. Iam currently looking for an appropriate position in visitor services.
While we are new to Jackson, my family and I have lost no time in experiencing a wide variety of the delights this area offers. Our activities have ranged from the 4 of July Parade, book clubs, Teton Science School programs, four winter sports, dog sled races, library special programs and classes, four summer sports, rodeos, the county fair, non-profit fund raising events, GTMF events, and farmers
markets to sumo wrestling! I have in depth knowledge of Yellowstone National Park and its facilities and am weekly enhancing my knowledge of Grand Teton Park. In
addition, I am well on my way towards achieving my goal of trying every restaurant in the area.
I look forward to the opportunity to meet with you to learn more about your vision for the JHTT Board and to answer any questions you may have of me.
Sincerely,

Dear Town Council & County Commissioners,
Please accept my Letter of Application for the Jackson Hole Travel & Tourism Joint Powers Board.
Following my initial 20 years in the hotel & restaurant industry, I moved to Jackson in 2002 as General
Manager of the Snake River Lodge. Since 2007, I currently serve as Vice President of Operations for Terra Resort Group, overseeing our three locally based properties; Hotel Terra, Teton Mountain Lodge, and the Inn at Jackson Hole.
Combined, both positions over the past 9 years have allowed me the opportunity to work not only closely with our local lodging partners, but also with our travel and tourism community across the state. Our goal has always been to bridge our own sales & marketing efforts, currently exceeding over $1 million in annual expenditures, with the collective initiatives offered by JH AIR,JH Central Reservations, JH Chamber of Commerce, Wyoming Travel & Tourism (WTT), and Wyoming Lodging & Restaurant Association (WLRA),to name a few.
During our economic boom years and more recent recessionary times, it is a strategy that has allowed our hotels and Jackson Hole as a destination to stay either ahead or at par with other competitive
Mountain West resort locations. I would bring the same spirit of collaboration to ourioint Powers Board in using our respective sales & marketing experiences for the greater good of our destination.
I have served, or currently serve on the following local & state boards: • Wyoming Travel & Tourism, 2011—2014, re-appointed by Governor Matt Mead • Wyoming Travel & Tourism, 2008—2011, appointed by Governor Dave Freudenthal • Jackson Hole Chamber of Commerce, 2007—2010 • Jackson Hole Chamber of Commerce Executive Committee, Treasurer, 2009—2010 • Wyoming Lodging & Restaurant Association (WLRA),2004—2009 • WLRAExecutive Committee, Past President 2009, President 2008, President Elect 2007, Vice President 2006, Treasurer 2005 • WLRAEducation Foundation, 2005—2010 • WLRAEducation Foundation Executive Committee, Chairman 2010, vice-Chair 2008- 2009, Treasurer 2006—2007 • Teton Village Resort District, Secretary, May— November 2007 • Jackson Hole Central Reservations, 2002 —2007

Ms. Sandy Birdyshaw Teton County Wyoming P0 Box 3594 Jackson, WY 83001
Dear Sandy,
I’d like to submit my application for a seat on the Travel & Tourism Joint Powers Board.
During my past 9 years in Jackson, I have been responsible for the sales, marketing and public relations efforts of Four Seasons Resort Jackson Hole. I understand the need to promote the valley and destination as part of the overall message to our guests and clients. Our unique selling is such a valuable tool in the marketing of destination that can be used by all of the businesses of the valley.
My education includes a Master’s Degree in Marketing from the University of Colorado along with 17 years of marketing experiences in Colorado, Of those, I spent 9 years in Telluride promoting and selling the destination in my role as Director of Marketing at The Peaks. Telluride is a unique destination and its’ remote location and seasonal nature offered a unique challenge in creating promotions for the destination. Prior to that, I worked at Copper Mountain Resort and Keystone Resort in their sales departments. This culmination of mountain experience has uniquely qualified me to recognize opportunities for the promotion and marketing of mountain communities.
I understand the seasonal needs of Jackson Hole and have been very successful in finding creative and alternative ways to promote Four Seasons. In a dynamically changing business environment. I have reduced tactical advertising costs and increased exposure of the Resort through website advertising and social media.
Four Seasons Resort Jackson Hole P0 Box 544, Teton Village, WY 83025 We have the opportunity to use the lodging tax revenue to make a difference in the exposure of the destination that impacts the success of many businesses in the valley. If elected to the Joint Powers Board I will be diligent in my efforts to promote the valley. I look forward to any questions that you might have regarding my application.
Kind Regards, I 1/trn

Re: Letter of Application for the Jackson Hole Travel and Tourism Joint Board
Ladies and Gentlemen,
It is with great interest that I submit this letter for your consideration to serve on Jackson Hole Travel and Tourism Joint Board. My background and track record in cultural tourism, special events and collaborative marketing are well suited for the position.
I am currently the Executive Director for the Grand Teton Music Festival an educational and culturalal non-profit with a board of forty members. The Festival board is made up of some of the savviest business people in country. Our practices and policies demand total fiscal transparency and full disclosure of our activities and transactions. Having worked with this group for 25 year, lam familiar with many of the fiscal best practices, which allow me to provide comprehensive reports that inform members promptly and thoroughly. Fiscal responsibility has always been one of my strengths and despite the current economy, my board had the confidence in me to approve an increased budget last year of $4.5 million, which I am pleased to report, was met. Prior to serving as the Executive Director, I was the Director of the Jackson Hole Wine Auction for 10 years negotiating contracts with many national companies that participated in hundreds of events.
Over the past five years, I have helped develop and implement an organizational strategic plan with national promotion as one of our primary goals. The strategies for this have included: high-profile and community based special events such as the Jackson Hole Wine Auction and Music In The Hole; collaborative marketing initiatives with local and national arts organizations; and promotional campaigns partnering with community and regional businesses as well as Grand Teton National Park Service. I have also had the good fortune to have lasting partnerships with the Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, all of the lodging outlets in Teton Village and many of the fine restaurants in the Valley, and collaborated with them on a variety of events, activities and promotions that benefitted our community in economic and intrinsic ways. This year we have expanded our programming to include off-season and additional winter performances that complement and enrich the offerings of other businesses, which create an added value for the visitors to Jackson Hole. We have also increased the number of kid-friendly programs to provide more activities geared toward families.
Having lived in this area for 26 years I have a great understanding of the residents and the values we all hold so dear. My husband’s family ties go back to the early homesteaders and those enduring connections have made me realize the importance of a sustainable community. For many years, I have been committed to achieving this through diverse and creative thinking. Over the years, I have served on a variety of boards and have been a member of many organizations. Currently I serve as the Treasurer for the Jackson Hole Central Reservations board and I am a member of Rotary, the Chamber of Commerce, the Cultural Council and the Teton Village Association. I have a good reputation for business and deliverable ideas. Should you need references, I can provide you with some from Community and National business leaders Arts partners.
Thank you for your consideration and I look forward to hearing from you.
Most Sincerely,
Tracy Jacobson

I moved to Jackson in 1997. Since 1999 I have been writing about the area for, at first, regional, and later, national publications. I have extensive experience on the editorial side of successfully selling an area as a travel destination. As a travel writer, I know what will get the attention of editors and other writers. Of course I expect the joint powers board to spend money on brochures, videos, and other promotional items, but I know well-placed articles are invaluable in promoting a community. For over a decade I’ve been pitching and writing the latter, targeting visitors of different ages, financial means. and interests. Not only do I regularly write about Jackson Hole, but also about communities and areas in ihe rest of the state. I work with Wyoming Tourism, Convention and Visitor Bureaus, Tourism Boards, and other such agencies and know what works with writers, magazines, and editors and what doesn’t. I have successfully sold articles about Jackson Hole — and other areas — featuring them during their off seasons. I have written about new restaurants, old outfitters offerings new tours, remodeled concert venues, long-standing festivals, and hometown heroes. I have been able to make a living as a freelance travel writer for a decade only because I know how’to find hidden gems and new angles in communities. That’s what I love about my job. Really, after I’ve locked in the assignment it’s not as interesting to me (please donUttell my editors this!). Some places— say Superior, Arizona, which I wrote about in the December 2010 issue of Sunset — don’t need to concern themselves with fresh angles but a place like Jackson Hole, which is already fairly well-known, does. While I do sometimes bemoan our shrinking off-season, I love Jackson Hole and want as many people to enjoy all the things.. places, and people it has to offer as possible. Following is my complete resume. Thanks in advance for your consideration. Yours, Dma Mishev Dinamishev.com Dma M. Mishev P.O. I feel incredibly fortunate to have made a living promoting tourism to Jackson Hole for the majority of my professional career, and I am excited by the opportunity to offer my knowledge and experience to the Jackson Hole Travel &Tourism Joint Powers Board. I have 12 years of experience promoting year-round recreational activities, accommodation, restaurants, bars, conference services, spa &fitness, retail/rental, and a variety of other visitor services. available to guests of Jackson Hole. Yellowstone&Grand Teton National Parks have been featured prominently in every sales &marketing plan I have executed. Environmental and community sustainability are core values that I incorporated into all promotions for Grand Targhee Resort. With each of the resort &hotel positions I have held, my responsibilities have included lead generation, development of business proposals, negotiation &execution of contracts, budgetary responsibility, yield management, competitive analysis, planning & promotion of special events, and representing the Jackson Hole community at various tourism industry functions. As a wholesale tour operator with Moguls Ski &Snowboard Tours I became familiar with bulk airline contracts and developed strong supplier relationships with resorts, hotels, and destination marketing organizations throughout the RockyMountain region, many of which I maintain to this day. Mycommitment to the community is illustrated by the variety of organizations with which I am involved. lam an active member of the Rotary Club of Jackson Hole, currently serving as Marketing Chairman for the M23 Annual Wine Fest. I have held the offices of President and VP of Education for our local chapter of Toastmasters International. I currently serve on the Membership Committee for the Jackson Hole Chamber of Commerce. And in past years I have volunteered with both the National Museum of Wildlife Art and the Bridger-Teton Chapter of the American Red Cross. In June 2010 I launched my own sales &marketing consulting business here in Jackson Hole. My decision to change careers was driven by the desire to help other companies improve the effectiveness of their marketing efforts. It is this same desire which has inspired me to apply for the Travel &Tourism Joint Powers Board. The unique perspective that I have developed over the course of my career as a group leader, wholesale tour operator, resort sales representative, hotel manager, and business consultant is a valuable asset that I would like to share with the Jackson Hole community. The fact that I am no longer employed by a company which benefits directly from the collection of tourism dollars allows me to take an unbiased approach to the allocation of LodgingTax funds. I have also directed all marketing including local radio, newspaper, national magazine, internet and a strong program of placement in editorial articles, TV and web postings. We have developed programs for many large adventure travel and institutional groups, including Back Roads, Wilderness Ventures, City Kids Wilderness Project, University of Montana Western, REI Adventures and more. In addition, we work closely with all of the major hotels and concierge services in the valley. Rendezvous River Sports & Jackson Hole Kayak School is nationally recognized for outstanding instruction, guiding, and retail service in the paddle sports industry and we are one of the few retailers in Jackson that consistently brings in customers from Eastern Idaho and the Wasatch Front. Land Development With Frank Ewing, I purchased the Hillside Motel in 1999, encompassing 2.5 acres at 945 W. Broadway. With Frank, I oversaw all of the pre-development work including; architecture and engineering, sketch plan approval, re-grading, removing and re-using the old buildings, (they are in Victor) organized the buyout and retirement of an obsolete irrigation ditch, finalized a land swap with the Town of Jackson to align Budge Drive with Scott Lane, and final approval. The approved project, including the land and building permit, were sold to Northwest Financial in 2002. The building was re-platted as commercial and residential condominiums and we bought back our individual units upon completion in 2004. The Hillside Building is one of the most visible and vibrant locations in Jackson. It is mostly owner occupied with the exception of my two tenants, Verizon Wireless and Simply Mac/ATT. Non- Profit & Stewardship Highlights Snake River Fund — I was a founding board member in1999, board chair from 2003-’06 and I am currently an active Emeritus Board Member. SRF has worked tirelessly to help keep the Snake River user fee free while continuing to provide necessary facilities and enhance and preserve the riparian environment. I have specifically worked on many projects including selling the SRF concept to the outfitting community, speaking on behalf of the fund at numerous public meetings and events, fund-raising, Summit on the Snake, the BLM land transfers, river access and more. Please see www.snakeriverfund.org for further information on this amazing grassroots river stewardship organization. Aaron Pruzan 2 Campaign for the Snake River Headwaters — I was at the first meeting when this was just a concept and became part of the leadership committee from 2003-2009. I hosted early meetings, helped solicit the lead donation, met with private land owners, met with representatives from the Forest and Park Service, presented the campaign at numerous public meetings, led question & answer sessions, helped hire a campaign director, wrote letters to members of congress, took congressional staff down the river and helped convince Senator Barrasso to take up the cause. The Craig Thomas Snake River Legacy Act was passed by Congress and signed into law in August of 2009. I will continue to actively be involved in this process as both the Park and Forest Service create new management plans. Wilson Beach Park — committee chair, 2009-present, I drafted and presented the original proposal (with Marley Vaughn & Sean O’Malley) and worked to get the Wilson Beach Park concept on the ballot as SPET Proposition 8. I presented the project at several public events, met with outfitters and helped lead and market the campaign to win public support. The proposition successfully passed in August of 2010 and I hope to continue to work through its completion. Wilson Beach Park Committee is a sub-committee of the Snake River Fund. Jackson Hole Ski Club — board member, 2001-2003, while on the board I encouraged and voted for the addition of a Free Ride team which is very successful. In addition to regular board duties I helped organize and revitalize the Town Downhill — please see Special Events below. Teton Adaptive Sports — beginning in 2008, worked with Kurt Henry to develop an adaptive paddling program. With TAS we have hosted two adaptive paddling days a summer for the past three years. This event is provided entirely free of charge and is well attended by members of the community including students from C-V and many adults from CES. All volunteers are welcome, come join us on June 19 at String Lake. Honoring Our Veterans — beginning in 2009, worked with Sandra Bockman to develop a paddling program of two days on the water for wounded veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan. We are one of several Jackson Hole businesses that have made this a huge success for HOV. The program will continue this summer. Jackson Hole Kayak Club — I founded the club in 1996 to offer an affordable opportunity for young people to experience the rivers of our area. JHKC has introduced hundreds of local kids to the lifetime enjoyment of river running. The Kayak Club has organized over 30 paddle sports events in the past 15 years that have drawn competitors and spectators from around the region and nation. In addition to traveling around Wyoming, JHKC members have traveled to numerous competitive events and for river trips in Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Utah and Quebec. Several JHKC members have gone on to experience paddle sports around the world and several also have become certified instructors who now work in the paddle sports industry. I stepped down from the board last year. American Whitewater Affiliation — board member 2002-2010, AW is the only national river stewardship and access organization that focuses on whitewater rivers. In addition to regular board duties I commented and attended meetings for re-licensing of the dam on the Bear River through the Black Canyon in Idaho, to ensure that the utility provided releases for recreational whitewater on this classic stretch. I am currently Aaron Pruzan 3 working with AW to remain a part of the Wild & Scenic process as both the Park and Forest Service create new management plans. Special Event HihIihts Wyoming Whitewater Championships — event organizer, 1997-2002, this event was part of a national circuit and attended by kayakers from across the country. Obtained Forest Service, permits, created marketing materials, announced, took care of event set up and tear down, competed and traveled to other events to compete and promote WVSTWC. Jackson Hole Ski Club Town Downhill — race director, 2002-2007, with Rick Hunt and Jamie Mackay, helped revitalize this event that truly embodies the soul of Jackson Hole as a ski town. TDH was a consistent money loser and we turned it into one of JHSC’s best fundraisers while nearly doubling the participation. I handled budgeting, fundraising, promotion, awards, helped with course prep and enjoyed competing. Now with the junior division, TDH will remain a high point of winter for years to come. I still enjoy being involved and continue to MC the event. In 1997 I helped revive the Jackson Hole Gallery Association from a period of dormancy and served as the President of the association for two terms. I am still active in the association. At The Gallery our marketing/advertising plan is a combination of local, regional and national targeting. Our client base is very diverse and includes a number of foreign citizens. We advertise/market The Gallery and our artists on a 12-month basis through the use of print publications, radio, direct mail, the Internet and are currently exploring TV. Over the years I have served on a number of boards and committees. I am familiar working within established parameters and will work toward consensus building within the group. I currently serve on the advisory boards of the Wort Hotel and the Western Design Conference. I. 4t*L Having lived in Vail for a number of years, I am familiar with other resort areas and I keep abreast of them on a daily/weekly basis. I read several of their newspapers daily and visit with friends and business owners in these areas. This information is very valuable to me in comparing their business and cultural climates with Jackson Hole. I would like to serve on this important committee. This tax, properly spent, can help the local business community thrive and aid the small businessman and the entire community. I realize that the purpose of these funds is to increase sales tax for the city and county. There will be a lot of requests and suggested uses for this money and I will be “up to the task” for these decisions. I feel I would be an asset to this group. I look forward to working with other committee members to meld all ideas for the betterment of the Jackson Hole community. As the Barnes FamilyDirector of Development and Marketing at the National Museum of Wildlife Art, Ponteir has brought a great business background, marketing experience in the tourism and hospitality industry, and a great civiccommitment to her work. She is alwaysvery wellorganized, direct, and capable of getting her ideas across, but she is also sensitive to the complexitiesof a community in which nature and wildlife mix directlywith tourism and visitor needs. Ponteir’s experience as Marketing Director for the Four Seasonshotel, plus her serviceas President of the Jackson Hole Chamber of Commerce, make her an excellent candidate. But the combination of these with her work at the Museum as an arts fundraiser and promoter giveher a special insight into both the “heads in beds” needs of tourism and the value that a strong arrayof arts and cultural institurions have for the community as a whole. Her understanding of the economic impact of the arts on Jackson Hole willservethe community well as a member of the Joint Power Board. My own experience includes a three-yearterm as commissioner of the Greater San Antonio Convention & Visitors Bureau, a body with roughly the same functions as the Joint PowersBoard. Knowingthe issuesthat arise in the work of such a body, I am confident that Ponteir will be able to servewell in this role. Sincerely,— c Js C. Zp, March 3, 2011 The Mayor and Town Council Town of Jackson. Wyoming The Board of County Commissioners Teton County. Wyoming P.0. Box 3594 Jackson, Wyoming 83001 Dear Mr. Mayor, Council members, and Commissioners, I write to apply for a seat on the Jackson Hole Travel & Tourism Joint Powers Board (JHTT). My contact information can be found in the footer of this letter. My employer is the Charture Institute, for which I serve as Executive Director. My interest in becoming a member of the JHTT stems from my belief that, if spent properly, the lodging tax proceeds can catalyze a future in which more closely links Jackson Hole’s economic interests with its overall community values. If the JHTT can make progress toward this goal over the next four years, then re-authorization of the lodging tax in 2014 will be virtually assured. Obtaining this re-authorization would be my primary goal as a JI-ITT member, and I believe it is the primary metric by which you — and the community — shouLdevaluate the JHTT’s efficacy. My column in the Jackson Hole ;Vews&Guidehas afforded me the luxury of sharing my views about the lodging tax’s importance to Jackson Hole: I published three columns on the subject before the election; another last week; and will publish yct another in next week’s paper. Rather than reiterate my already-published views, I’ll use the rest of this application to address the qualifications set forth in the Statement of Policy. Of the nine qualifications, there are three with which I have no experience: • Extensiveexperience at the executivelevel in Jackson Hole strategic and tactical marketing and sales. • Severalyears or more experience in shoulder season and/or winterpromotion. Experience in national park marketing. There are three with which I have some experience: • Experience inplanning and promotion of special events Through my work with the Charture Institute and 1% for the Tetons, I have planned, promoted, staged, and been part of numerous special events in both Jackson Hole and elsewhere. • In-depth experience in recreational, arts, cultural. geo/ecotourism, and emerging markets, and trends in thesefields Charture’s focus is on helping resort and gateway communities sustain their essential qualities. To that end. much of my work has involved understanding how Jackson Hole’s character is shaped by its recreation, arts. culture, and the like, and how national and international trends — including geo/ecotourism — might affect the community’s ability to sustain those qualities (including how to better tie them into the community’s economy). • General marketing experience in Jackson Hole. including restaurant and retail To the extent Chariure and 1% for the Tetons have been successful, one key has been developing an understanding Jackson Hole and then marketing appropriately. Post Office Box 4672 • 485 Arapahoe Lane Jackson, Wioming 83001 (307) 733-1603 (home) (307) 733-8687 (work) • [email protected] Jonathan Schechter Application to the Jackson Hole Travel & Tourism Joint Powers Board March 3, 2011 — Page 2 of 2 There are three with which 1 have siificant experience and’or demonstrable proof of supporting: Knowledge of the cornniunin: and experience on local boards Through the many facets of my professional and personal lives. I believe I have significant knowledge of the community. My experience on local boards includes eight-plus years as an elected trustee of St. John’s Medical Center, and service on a variety of other local non-profit boards, both on-going and start-ups. Resident of Teton County, familiar with our community values and economy I first moved to Teton County in 1983, and have lived here continuously since 1988. As with my response to the previous answer, I believe the many facets of my professional and personal lives have given me a clear understanding of, and familiarity with, the community’s values and economy. Commitment to and comfort with board transparency My work as a newspaper columnist has only heightened my fundamental instinct toward transparency. This commitment to, and comfort with, transparency has played out not just in my board activity, but also in the policies I’ve set for 1% for the Tetons (i.e. the only information we keep confidential is how much money any individual nicrnbcr donates, and who serves on our grants committee). One final note. I’ve written my column for the Jackson Hole News&Guide for over 15 years. During that time I’ve served on a number of boards, committees. and the likc. In no ease have I ever co-mingled my journalism with my responsibilities to that organization. In particular. I’ve never violated an organization’s confidence, written about its inner workings, or otherwise used my position within the organization to further my journalism. In fact, during my eight-plus years as a hospital trustee, I believe I wrote about St. John’s only once, on a subject unrelated to anything occurring in the board room. Should you appoint me to the JI-ITT, 1will maintain that standard. Thank you for consideration of my application. Benjamin H. Ellis, Chairman, Teton County Board of Commissioners Hon. Mark Barron, Mayor, Jackson, Wyoming DATE: March3,2011 RE: Jackson/Teton County Lodging Tax Board I would appreciate the consideration of the Town Council and Board of County Commissioners for appointment to the Jackson/Teton County Lodging Tax Board. I returned to Jackson Hole permanently in July 2010 after an absence of five years. I reside at 3548 Lake Creek Drive North in the Aspens. I resided previously in Chicago where, as the attached document describes, I served in senior and chief executive capacities in the fields of publishing, academic administration, business consulting and retained executive search. Since returning to Jackson Hole, my volunteer and professional activities include: • Co-chairing, with Commissioner Paul Perry, the first AnnualJackson Hole WinterFest, a festival of more than twenty-five events that took place February th16 — th20 • Serving as a volunteer mediator in Teton County’s Small Claims Court, under the auspices of the Center for Resolution • Serving in a volunteer capacity at the Grand Teton Music Festival’s Metropolitan Opera Broadcast Series • Membership in the Jackson Hole Rotary Supper Club • Joining the Art Association of Jackson Hole in the position of Executive Director Before specifically addressing my experience as it relates to the published criteria for appointment to the Jackson/Teton County Lodging Tax Board, I would like to note that I have had extensive experience in allocating Federal, State, local government and private funds to a variety of nonprofit, civic and private sector entities through formaL review processes. My experience includes serving as: • Executive Director of the St. Louis Commission for the Arts & Humanities; there,! led the review of applications for, and allocation of, more than $2 million over five years • A Member of two Peer Review Panels of the National Endowment for the Arts; I recommended to the National Council on the Arts allocation of more than $6 million annually in Federal funds P.O. Box 2624 Jackson, Wyoming 83001 Hon. Benjamin H. Ellis Hon. Mark Barron March 3,2011 Page Two One of twelve members of the Board of Directors of the St. Louis Economic Development Commission; I recommended allocation of City, County and Federal funds to a wide range of projects contributing to the economic development of St. Louis City and County Additionally, as Commissioner for Heritage and Urban Design of the City of St. Louis, I reviewed all permit applications for new construction and the rehabilitation of existing structures to ensure compliance with the City’s rigorous architectural standards. In the last role, in particular, debate was often contentious and the Commissions decisions frequently had significant economic impact on developers, corporations, businesses, homeowners and contractors. I am confident Fconsistently displayed a sensitive but objective attilude to all parties concerned. Finally, as a trained and certified (in Florida) mediator, I have developed an approach to resolving opposing arguments that stresses careful listening and the avoidance of bias and pre judgment regarding the issues under consideration. With respect to the specific criteria published for appointment to the Jackson/Teton County Lodging Tax Board, I offer the following experience and expertise: • Extensive experience at the executive level in Jackson Hole destination strategic and tactical marketing and sales lam confident that Jackson Hole WinterFest will be a growing, annual community event that over time, will become a “destinaUon attraction,” drawing visitors to Jackson Hole. My role in producing Jackson Hole WinterFest was both strategic and tactical in nature. • Several years of experience in shoulder season and/or winter promotion My experience in this regard is limited to one year. • Experience in planning and promotion of special events Throughout my 35-year professional career, I would estimate I have had responsibility for at least 50 special events with audiences ranging in size from twenty-five to 3,000. • In-depth experience in recreational, arts, cultural, geo/ecotourism and emerging markets and trends in these fields My experience in the fields of arts and culture are extensive and described in the attached. In the recreational arena, Fcan offer knowledge gained while working as a kayak and raft river guide on the Green and Colorado Rivers as an employee of Aspen Kayak and Raft and as a pro-patrolman on Ajax Mountain in Aspen. #. Hon. Benjamin H. Ellis Hon. Mark Barron March 3,2011 Page Three • Experience in National Park Marketing Regrettably, none whatsoever • General marketing experience inJackson Role, including retail and restaurant In the course of securing support for, and contributions to,Jackson Hole WinterFest, I became acquainted with many leaders in the retail and restaurant industries here. I would be pleased to provide members of the Town Council and Board of County Commissioners with the names of several individuals in these industries who would attest to my understanding of their marketing challenges and opportunities. • Knowledge of the community and experience on local boards I believe I have developed a very sound understanding of the unique dynamics of our community through membership in the Rotary Supper Club, serving as a mediator in Small Claims Court and as co-chair ofJackson Hole WinterFest. As the attached shows, I have served on and/or chaired the Boards of numerous nonprofit organizations elsewhere. I intend to continue a similar level of engagement in Jackson Hole. • A resident of Teton County, familiar with our community values and economy To the extent such familiarity can be gained in the time I have been resident here, I believe I have done so. • Commitment to, and comfort with, board transparency Anyone with whom I have worked (or currently work) would testify to my profound belief in, and commitment to, transparency in all things. lam candid under all circumstances and believe that sharing information to the very greatest extent possible enables others to understand how and why decisions are made. I believe a calm and rational explanation of one’s decision-making process will, 90% of the time, result at least in acceptance of the logic behind the decision. I appreciate the consideration of the Town Council and Board of County Commissioners for appointment to the Jackson/Teton County Lodging Tax Board. I am a committed and permanent resident of Jackson Hole and look forward to close engagement with the issues that will influence our community’s future and secure its well-being. Thank you. My passion for the Jackson Hole community took root quickly when I arrived in 2003 as the opening Hotel Manager of the Four Seasons Resort. I was brought to Jackson by Four Seasons because of my experiences operating hotels and resorts in highly seasonal destinations. My experience in hotel operations and destination marketing spans a 20 year career with Four Seasons in locations ranging from California, Arizona, Massachusetts and Florida. In 2003 I was asked to take the post of General Manager at the Four Seasons Palm Beach. In each location I worked closely with state and local agencies to promote these locations and the lodging offerings. In 2007 I returned to Jackson Hole to form and lead the Terra Resort Group, a Jackson Hole-based hotel management company. Terra Resort Group markets and operates Hotel Terra Jackson Hole, Teton Mountain Lodge & Spa and the Inn at Jackson Hole, all located in Teton Village. Terra Resort Group also markets and operates Topnotch Resort in Stowe, Vermont and the Casa Madrona Hotel & Spa in Sausalito, California. We also asset manage the Four Seasons Resort in Palm Beach, Florida. With over $60 million dollars in revenue under management we have become specialist in seasonal destination marketing and operations. In my position as President I oversee all facets of operations, marketing, sales and corporate strategy for our organization. I believe I have the extensive executive experience in marketing our destination, our services and our community amenities that would serve the Jackson/Teton County Lodging Tax Board well. My experience operating and marketing lodging at all levels here in Jackson (1 Five Diamond property, 2 Four Diamond properties and 1 Three Diamond property) gives me specific insight into the diverse mixture of guests that visit our incredible destination. I have a proven track record in creating value in our shoulder and winter seasons, and my commitment to our destination is reflected in the work I do sitting on both the Teton Village Resort District Board and the JH Air Board. Through my organization we have also supported the marketing efforts of Jackson Hole Central Reservations, the Chamber of Commerce and marketing partnerships with the Jackson Hole Mountain Resort. I look forward to the opportunity to answer any questions about how my experience might help support the efforts of this newly formed board.
