Here are some highlights. Bob Satrom noted that $15K has been earmarked in three PARKER ROTARIANS WITH DISTRICT RESPONSIBILITIES Mike Oldham—Strategic Planning Committee and Extension Committee areas of service and there is a total of $7K allocated to our annual student scholarships. Steve Irv Buck—Water and Sanitation Committee Brown reported on at least 8 international projects totaling $9K. Larree Morgan mentioned that consideration is being given to award scholarships on the basis of need vs grades. He also stated the need to identify candidates for Young RYLA and RYLA as we have a budget to send three youths to camp this year. Sadly, we will not be hosting an Exchange Student this year since no one has stepped up to oversee this pro- gram. Li Pettett made an appeal for all members to report their service hours so that we can reach our 7,000 hour goal. She also noted that the club raised $800 in gift cards for the Parker Task Force and $500 for Project Sanctuary. 2 15 UPCOMING EVENTS

12 5 WHAT IS ROTARY?

Have you ever been asked that question? If so, were you prepared to give a concise and meaningful answer? Your Assistant Editrarian had It happen to him last weekend at a party when a friend overheard me mention Rotary.. After a few seconds and short breaths, I responded and I think I did a respectable job of explain- ing Rotary without losing the questioner’s interest or overdoing it. Today I looked to “The ABC’s of Rotary” to see if there is a good, short an- swer. This is what I found. Just 31 words that have been used since 1976 to define Rotary.

“Rotary is an organization of business and professional persons united worldwide who provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and help build goodwill and peace in the world.”
