Settlement Profile: Cornwood 1 Introduction

Cornwood is located about 8 miles east of and 4 miles north-west of , in an elevated position on the fringe of the moor. The main part of the village sits above the valley of the . It stands on the junction of an old trade route between and , and Plymouth and the moor. Wool, tin and cattle were the principal

commodities. Today, china clay is a dominant local industry, although farming continues to play an important role.

The village has a good mix of local facilities for a

village of its size, including a primary school and a village hall with a good size car park.
