Staff Corner Our Easter Season Happy Easter! “But, Bradley,” you say,” Easter was two weeks ago.” You’re not wrong. But as Catholics, we have a way of making seasons stretch. By example, we celebrate the Christmas season liturgically not just until Epiphany but until the Baptism of Our Lord—well into January. As a Church, we celebrate the Easter season from sun- set on Easter Vigil until Pentecost—this year on May 20. That’s seven weeks of rejoicing! Let the symbolism of the cal- endar bring you joy as well. We marched through the desert for 40 days, but on the other side is 50 days of celebration. Quite literally, the joy of Easter lasts longer than the sacrifice of Lent. So it should be in our hearts. At its roots, this season helped continue the formation of newly-welcomed Christians. But even for the seasoned Cath- olic, the language of our liturgy during this time speaks to new life and inspired discipleship. Listen to the first readings during the next month, and you will hear a series of accounts from the . These readings recount the earliest days of the Church. How did the leaders of that Church respond to circumstances? How did the earliest followers come to believe? How did Jesus’ teachings give way to actions?

Until Pentecost, Happy Easter.

Social Justice Ministry The Social Justice Ministry invites you “Come Together for Our Common Home” on Earth Day & EVERY DAY. Fun Fact: Did you know that 280 species of birds have been reported in Central Park? Earth Day is April 22nd and the focus this year is to end plastic pollution. Plastic is not bio- degradable and only about 9% is recycled. As a parish and as individuals we can reduce our plastic consumption by following the 5 Rs—Reduce, Refuse, Reuse, Recycle and Remove. Let us work together to protect our “Common Home,” the beautiful world that God has created. Processional: Christ The Lord is Risen Today 1. Christ the Lord is ris'n today, Alleluia! All on earth with angels say, Alleluia! Raise your joys and triumphs high, Alleluia! Sing, O heav'ns, and earth reply, Alleluia! 2. Lives again our glorious King; Alleluia! Where, O death, is now your sting? Alleluia! Once he died our souls to save, Alleluia! Where your victory, O grave? Alleluia! 3. Love's redeeming work is done, Alleluia! Fought the fight, the battle won. Alleluia! Death in vain forbids him rise; Alleluia! Christ has opened paradise. Alleluia! 4. Soar we now where Christ has led, Alleluia! Foll'wing our exalted head; Alleluia! Made like him, like him we rise, Alleluia! Ours the cross, the grave, the skies. Alleluia

Responsorial Psalm: Psalm 4 Lord, let your face shine on us. Lord let your face shine on us.

Offertory: Yes, God Is Real There are some things I may not know yhere are some places I can not go. But I am sure of this one thing, that God is real for I can feel Him deep within.

Chorus: Yes, God is real. He’s real in my soul. Yes, God is real for He has washed and made me whole. His love for me is like pure gold. Yes, God is real for I can feel Him in my soul.

Some folks may doubts some folks may scorn, all can desert and leave me alone. But as for me, I'll take God's part for God is real and I can feel Him in my heart.

I cannot tell just how you felt when Jesus took your sins away. But since that day, yes, since that hour, God has been real for I can feel His holy power

Communion: In The Breaking Of The Bread Refrain: We saw Him! Suddenly our eyes were opened, and we knew He was alive.

Recessional: Alleluia! Let The Holy Anthem Rise

Alleluia! Alleluia! Let the holy anthem rise, and the choirs of heaven chant it in the temple of the skies; Let the mountains skip with gladness and the joyful valleys ring with hosannas in the highest to our Savior and our King!

Alleluia! Alleluia! Like the sun from out the wave He has risen up in triumph from the darkness of the grave. He's the splendor of the nations; He's the lamp of endless day; He's the very Lord of glory who is risen up today!

Alleluia! Alleluia! Blessed Jesus, make us rise from the life of this corruption to the life that never dies. May we share with you your glory when the days of time are past, and the dead shall be awakened by the trumpet's mighty blast!

CURIOUS ABOUT THE -ADULT INITIATION You know we talk about RCIA all the time….we always want to make sure you know what that is…the RITE OF CHRIS- TIAN INITIATION FOR ADULTS is simply put, the way folks with questions about the Catholic church learn about us and if they desire, how they become Catholic. It is the most amazing gift to be a part of someone’s faith journey. We have one of the few YEAR ROUND processes in the Archdiocese of NY. That means that anyone can begin their journey by coming to ask their questions at any point in the year. It also means that we always love to have parishioners join us, helping with hospi- tality and making strangers feel welcome on any Monday night. If you have cookies in your house that you know you should- n’t be eating…why not bring them by on a Monday night and stay for the conversation? If you like to bake or want to donate a case of water…come join us for prayer and some faith talk. Get to know our inquirers and let them learn about SFDS by meeting you. We gather at 7pm in the parish house and you (and your friend with questions about the Catholic church) are always welcome. ---COVER SHEET
