Trekking Camps Soonwaldsteig

Equipment Recommendation

Since the camps are located a bit away from streets, towns and other infrastructure you should take along common trekking equipment.

Booking confirmation Please do not forget to print your booking confirmation and carry it with you. The camp supervisor and the responsible forest ranger are authorized to send-away persons not having a booking confirmation.

Hiking maps For orientation, we recommend using a 1:25,000 scaled hiking map. For the Soonwald- Nature Reserve there is a set of maps available, "Naturpark Soonwald-Nahe" (2nd edition 2012, ISBN 978-3-89637-376-2) which can be purchased from the Federal State Office for Surveying and Geo Information Rhineland Palatinate for € 21.90. These maps can also be ordered as individual maps at the Naheland-Touristik Shop. For the and Ochsenbaumer Höhe camps you will need map sheet 3, and for the Alteburg camp map sheet 2.

GPS device Taking along a GPS device makes it easier for you to find the camps. You can also rent a GPS device in the region for a small fee: Kur- und Touristinformation , Bahnhofstraße 4, 55566 Bad Sobernheim, phone: +49 (0)6751-81241 Touristinformation Bingen, Rheinkai 21, 55411 , phone: +49 (0)6721-184 205

Also important: Clothing/Rain protection All-weather and rainproof clothing is always of advantage. There is a reason why there are so many streams running through the Soonwald!

Sleeping Along with a tent, you should of course also have a sleeping bag, pillow, camping/sleeping mat or bivouac sack.
