The subject for this year’s stamps is ‘The Postman Van’. The prizes for the best EUROPA stamp are awarded based on the decision of the professional jury and the online vote. Magyar Posta’s entry for 2013 shows a 1914 Csonka parcel delivery van on one stamp and a Ford postman’s van on the other. Details of other postal vehicles appear in the border design. Eighty thousand copies of the miniature sheet designed by the graphic designer Zsolt Vidák were printed by the ANY Security Printing Company. Since 2003 the most beautiful EUROPA stamps have been chosen by the public. After Monaco, Greece, Iceland, Ukraine and Armenia, Magyar Posta’s new stamps won the coveted title three times in a row, in 2008, 2009 and 2010. In 2011 the organisers altered the rules of the competition and, in addition to the online vote of previous years, a seven-member expert jury also chose the most beautiful stamp. This first professional award was won by Cyprus Postal Services. On that occasion Magyar Posta’s EUROPA stamp came second in the votes cast by the public, and last year the Hungarian stamp became Europe’s best once more. EUROPA 2013 Order code: 2013110040011 (miniature sheet) 2013110060012 (FDC) Date of issue: 3 May 2013 Total face value: HUF 940 Number of copies issued: 80,000 Imperforated size of the miniature sheet: 120 x 70 mm, perforated size of the stamps: 40 x 25 mm Printed by ANY Security Printing Company Designed by Zsolt Vidák .

The national postal operator in Denmark said the disruption to its communications systems also meant that customers were unable to contact customer service regarding their inability to track their packages. Despite the problems, the company insisted yesterday that it is now back to delivering letters and parcels on time. Post & Parcel: PostNL will be increasing its prices from the beginning of August, with the basic rate for a domestic letter rising 11% to 60c. The Dutch postal service said the rate increases are necessary to counter the impacts of the country’s 8-10% annual decline in mail volumes. Letters going to European destinations will see rates rise to 96c, while letters going to the rest of the world will be charged at EUR 1. Business rates will also increase from 1st August, the company said. The basic rate for franked mail will be EUR 0.52. Despite beginning a “rigorous” series of restructuring effort and cost-saving plans, PostNL said its universal postal service is loss- making as a result of the large volume declines, while it continues to meet its obligation to guarantee mail delivery within 24 hours and maintain networks of 2,000 post offices and 15,000 mailboxes.

Marc Lautenbach said he was carrying out a thorough review of the firm after taking charge, and is now looking to reposition its portfolio of services, potentially exiting business areas that do not meet his requirements for shareholder returns. Speaking to analysts today as the company revealed gloomy first quarter results in which revenues were down 4% year-on-year and earnings per share slumped by 58%, Lautenbach said he would be creating a more “disciplined” culture at Pitney Bowes, so that it “moves forward with a greater sense of urgency”. “The only sacred cows in this company is the client and the shareholder,” he said. “There is no sacred cow in the portfolio – in order for businesses to remain part of our portfolio, they need to be strategically coherent, be a leader in the market or regenerate a return that is accretive to shareholders.” BGR: Many subscribers will be in for a surprise when the latest issue of Forbes Magazine arrives on doorsteps and newsstands.
