Visa requirements Passport valid for at least 30 days after the intended date of departure is required by all nations. Passport must have at least one blank page for entry stamp. Passengers who also require a visa must have a passport with two blank facing pages, one for the visa and one for their entry stamp. Anyone attempting to enter Turkey without the required pages will be returned to their country of origin.

Note: Please be sure to obtain your visa at least one month before your departure to avoid any inconvenience. Make your visa application in person.

Security clearance Security Clearance is not applicable for the visitors from the US and Europe. Visitors from other countries need to check country specific requirements from the consulates that they are going to apply for.

Cell/Mobile Turkey's mobile/cell phone companies allow international roaming and phone systems cover all areas.

Electricity and plugs Turkey operates on 220 volts, 50 Hz, with round-prong European-style plugs that fit into recessed wall sockets /points.

Local currency Money can be changed at banks, bureaux de change and some hotels. and Exchange Proof of identity may be requested; therefore, it is advisable to carry a passport. Visitors are restricted to bringing in a maximum of 10.000 USD and taking out a 5.000 USD in cash.

MasterCard and Visa are preferred. American Express and Diners Club are also widely accepted.

ATMs are available all over the towns and cities including shopping malls and petrol stations, and accept all international debit and credit cards. All hotels, shops and restaurants, and even national parks and game reserves accept credit cards.

Traveler’s cheques are valid at banks, hotels, restaurants and some tourist-orientated shops. To avoid additional exchange rate charges, travelers are advised to take traveler’s cheques in Pounds Sterling or US Dollars.

Communications The international country dialling code for Turkey is +90. The outgoing code is 00, followed by the relevant country code (e.g. 0044 for the United Kingdom). City/area codes are in use, e.g. Istanbul Asia (Asia side) is (0)216 and Istanbul Europe (Europe side) is (0)212. GSM 900 and 1800 networks cover most of the country. Internet cafes are available in the main towns and resorts.
