August brought below normal precipitation for nearly all of the Western except for the western slopes of the . However, most of received near to above normal precipitation except for the Central Basin, and the and Blue . As we head into the last month of the current Water Year, the majority of is still near normal with only the Olympics, Southwest Interior and Northwest Interior areas below normal. For Eastern Washington, nearly all regions were still below normal except for the eastern slopes of the Cascades which are still near normal.

For Western Washington, the monthly percentage of normal for precipitation ranged from 19 percent in the Southwest Interior to 96 percent in the western slopes of the Cascades. The greatest amount of precipitation at the stations for the mountains, coast and interior lowlands was 2.65 inches at Diablo in the western slopes of the Cascades, 0.80 at Quillayute, and 0.85 inches at Bellingham in the Northwest Interior.

For Eastern Washington, the percentage of normal for precipitation ranged from 56 percent in the Palouse and Blue Mountains to 152 percent in the Northeast . The greatest amount of precipitation at the climate stations for the mountains and lowlands was 1.02 inches at Winthrop on the eastern slopes of the Cascades, and 1.61 at Chewelah in the Northeast region.

The outlook for September and beyond for Washington state, for the next two weeks the outlook is for above normal precipitation. The monthly outlook for September calls for below normal precipitation for the state. The three month outlook for September through November shows equal chances for above, below and near normal precipitation for Eastern Washington, with above normal precipitation expected for western half of the state.
