EXECUTIVE SUMMARY In order to develop a comprehensive planning tool, the National Park Service (NPS or Park Service) has requested the creation of a Cultural Landscape Report (CLR) and a Historic Structure Report (HSR) for five of the light stations at Apostle Islands National Lakeshore (park). The two reports have been combined into one document as outlined in Chapter 2: Methodology. The intent of this combined CLR/HSR is to guide treatment and use of the aboveground cultural resources associated with five light stations on Michigan, Outer, Devils, Long, and Sand islands. Documentation of historic significance and evaluation of integrity of the cultural landscapes provides the framework upon which treatment recommendations are based.
