ARTS OLYMPUS | Presentation 04

ARTS A TIME WHOSE SHIP HAS COME .

WE’RE NOT ONLY living in turbulent times--we’re living in a pivotal age. You need only pick up the paper each day to see fingers pointing and storm clouds swirling. What’s needed is a better way to bridge people and cultures. A vessel in which to contain the goodwill innate in people of all civilizations, so it can be celebrated and shared from shore to shore. Precisely the vessel your support can help launch. NOAH’S ARK HAD ANIMALS. THIS SHIP WILL HAVE ARTISTS.

ARTISTS ARE, indeed, the antenna of the race. They provide us with the DEW Line--the Distant Early Warning of what is happening in our world . The vi sion of Arts Olympus is to tap this enormous global resource by working with creative genius, cultural ambassadors, critics and curators to gather artists of all kinds--from all cultures--and set them sailing around the globe on a big, beautiful ship with a guest list of key influencers . Here, together, they can “bear witness, pull down the stars to their own will, and make glad the heart of man.” THE WORLD’S OCEANS AS YOU’VE NEVER HEARD THEM BEFORE.

SOUND TRAVELS faster on water than it does on land, which is fitting since the goal of Arts Olympus is to let the world’s great and varied voices be heard. Musical and theatrical performances of international import will be shared. Noteworthy speakers will take the stage. The microphone will be passed to poets, writers, visionaries, and futurists. Here, opera, dance, and cultural acts of all kinds can be staged, both indoors or out, in a setting unlike any other--a stunning, unbiased, international platform uniquely positioned to reach the whole world at once and ensure the beauty and insights found in art wash up on every shore. ALL DRESSED UP AND EVERYWHERE TO GO.

ARTS OLYMPUS will be a floating city unto itself that can turn up anywhere in the world, including at some of the most exciting cultural events taking place in port cities. The ship’s spectacular arrival will add to the host cities’ fes tivities. It will contribute to the local economy. It will allow cities with small budgets to host free performances for their populace. The ship and its guests are already interested in the arts and culture, so voyages to events such as the Venice Biennial will be very enticing. But besides these premier events, Arts Olympus will make stops in smaller, poorer, third world locales where the artists can truly fascinate, draw aid and attention to people seldom ex posed to the art of other countries, and help incorporate their own culture into the continuing voyage. Vortex Immersion Media domes can bring cultural exchanges to life--on land.

A DAZZLING laser light show will illuminate the night sky as the “ship of global goodwill” pulls into port. The on-board orchestra will perform an anthem composed for each host city. Representatives from all parts of the globe will line the decks, hand in hand, in traditional costumes. Shortly the city will erupt into a “World’s Fair of the Arts” as all the artists take to land to perform in local venues and in the ship’s own “Vortex Imerssive Media Domes,” free of charge. These are pop-up domes that feature the latest in imerssive media and virtual reality technology, allowing countries to host “virtual pavilions” and offer “3D tours” of cultural landmarks that everyone should see. In the ship’s ballroom , a gala will host royalty, heads of state, philanthropists, and a multi - tude of local and international artists. A presidential address welcoming the world will be followed by cultural performances of immense national pride. All of it filmed for television and future educational programming, so everyone can recall the day that ship full of alien artists arrived. WAY WAY OFF OFF BROADWAY.

STAGING WORKS hundreds of nautical miles off-shore, in international waters, offers unique opportunities. For one, projects that deserve to be free of societal pressures--such as the need to make profit--can be shown among a wide audience of patrons who fund the arts . What makes most sense, though, is that stunning theaters, salons, and gallery spaces already exist onboard ships being targeted for charter. Much of the lighting, sound, and production equipment is also in place. Which means funding can be directed more to art and culture and less to the mechanics of presenting it.

Beautiful theaters and gallery spaces already exist on major cruise liners. LIVE FROM THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE.

ARTS OLYMPUS will afford tremendous potential for content in both television and internet programming. So much so that Arts Olympus was chosen to speak at N.A.T. P. E, the largest television convention in the world. Already, China, India and Africa have shown interest, representing an audience of over four billion people. Most countries have the equivalent of “Arts & Entertainment” and the “Discovery” channel and they are constantly trying to find innovative programing. With a different back - drop in every port, Arts Olympus will be to culture what National Geographic is to adventure. It’s no wonder “Arts and Business” in London described Arts Olympus as the “sexiest intercultural program in the world”: Our studio is the globe. A SHIP CERTAIN TO MAKE WAVES.

ARTISTS HAVE ALWAYS colored outside the lines.. That’s why a state-of-the-art media center will be at their disposal, with real-time satellite uplink and downlink for taped and live programming. A full team of production specialists will work continuously on program creation and development. The ship will originate its own programming for sale to satellite and cable networks, thereby creating a revenue stream to help sustain the ambitious effort to bring understanding and goodwill to all parts of the globe--in waves , not ripples. 139 MILLION SQUARE MILES OF EXTRA SPACE FOR INDIGENOUS PEOPLES.

SO MANY CULTURES today are marginalized, maligned, and misunder - stood. Many are corralled and cordoned off in ever-diminishing plots of land. Some are simply dispersing or disappearing all together. They deserve more. Why not give them all the oceans of the world? Why not bring their traditions, ideas, myths, and magic out into the wide open, where they can be seen and appreciated, even recorded for posterity. As it travels the globe, Arts Olympus intends to pick up all kinds of people, help them participate in an exchange of culture, and feel welcome in a place where there’s room for absolutely everyone. THEY SAY GREAT IDEAS COME OUT OF THE BLUE.

BRILLIANT MINDS can float freely here. You can easily see past your navel and out over the horizon, where the future is. This wonderful wide open space could be a catalyst for breakthroughs. Not just artistic break - throughs, but environmental, social, and economical ones, too. Which is why Arts Olympus will be an ideal site for summits. The bow of this boat is going to cut through waves, red tape, bureaucracy, loggerheads, conventional thinking, and over 139 million square miles of blue space (WE COULDN’T AGREE MORE.) from which any number of ideas could pop up. THE NOTION of bringing top minds together isn’t new. From the great Arts Olympus hopes to spur cross-fertilization and perhaps even influence art salons and royal societies of 18th century Europe to the summits we a renaissance. One that springs from art and culture but informs all parts know today, gatherings of these sorts have made extraordinary contri - You of our lives, and all parts of the world. You may think we’re dreamers, butions to the betterment of our world. By gathering bright minds from but, as you can see from the like-minded thinkers on the “wish list” of as broad an array of disciplines as possible, and setting them out to sea, possible invitees above, we’re not the only ones. wow. A POW WOW TO HEAL THE SEAS.

NATIVE AMERICAN Indians know a thing or two about living in concert with nature, and it’s high time we put their insights to work. One of the events being conceived for Arts Olympus’ maiden voyage is a gathering of representatives from all tribes in a ceremonial Pow Wow in the middle of the ocean. The ship’s engines will shut down. In silence, as the sun dips its toes into the sea, the tribes will send out the healing prayer Mitakue Oyasin : “You are all my relations, my relatives, without whom I could not live. We are in the circle of life together, co-existing, co-dependent, co-creating our destiny. One, not more important than the other. One nation evolving from the other and yet each dependent upon the one above and the one below. All of us a part of the Great Mystery.” Wow, indeed. CONTEMPORARY ART IS OUT THERE.

MANY COLLECTORS today are finding it hard to imagine anything more pedestrian than an art gallery. Especially whole streets of galleries lined up one after the other, like reproductions. Artists, too, are getting out beyond the walls of cookie-cutter cubes to explore the broader possibilities of alternative spaces. So you can understand why artists, gallerists, curators, and auction houses are totally behind Arts Olympus and the notion of presenting work to a world audience in a traveling showcase under a big blue sky. They want their art to be out there. WHAT DOES ONE WEAR FOR DINNER WHEN EVERYONE ON BOARD IS CREATIVE?

CULTURAL TOURISM is the fastest growing segment of the travel industry, and no one is better placed to take advantage of it than Arts Olympus. Guests on Arts Olympus will mingle among the most interesting, creative, exotic, and culturally intelligent people in the world. Each guest ticket will include the sponsorship of one international artist’s presence on the ship, which is a fully tax- deductible way of contributing to the arts and traveling in great company. THE MOTHER SHIP OF ALL TEST RUNS.

IN JUNE OF 2010, Arts Olympus did a “dry run” of its premise by staging a four-day multi-cultural festival onboard the most famous ship in the world, The Queen Mary. In its review, the Los Angeles Times gave the event an outstanding four-and-a-half stars out of five. SINCE ITS CULTURAL SPLASH on the famous Queen Mary in Los Angeles, Arts Olympus has been meeting with the world’s premier cruise lines, all of which have expressed interest in being charter partners in this historic event. The next step is to finalize our ship choice and to come to contractual agreements with the cruise lines. These include Cunard in England, Holland America in Seattle, Royal Caribbean, Carnival, and Norwegian Cruise Lines in Miami, as well as contenders in other parts of the world. In making this decision, a number of variables come into play: passenger capacity, the number and quality of venues onboard, budgetary issues, satellite hookups for broadcasting television and Internet, to name a few. However, after making a number of on sight inspections aboard various ships an out - standing vessel has now been identified, contracts are being drafted, and plans are being set for a seven-day Inaugural Voyage from New York to Bermuda and back, scheduled for 2012. This event, watched by the world, will serve as the exciting Global Press Launch of Arts Olympus, and--just as importantly--the formal introduction of the projects Founding Sponsors. FOR INDIVIDUALS, families, trusts, and companies who want their philanthropic giving to arts and culture to achieve something new, measureable and far-reaching, Arts Olympus may be just the ticket. While funding requirements for a project this audacious are substantial, they are only so at the outset. Just as the Olympic Games got their start through visionaries and have long since become self-sustaining, Arts Olympus aims to quickly establish revenue streams through which it will be able to stay afloat entirely own its own. Sources of revenue will include tickets sales, charters, broadcasting, sponsorship programs, productions fees, and, of course, the annual budgets that all countries dedicate to promoting their culture overseas. So the search is on for a select few private or public entities with the resources to support this noble endeavor as “Founding Sponsors.” Doubtless, Arts Olympus will offer an unprece - dented level of visibility worldwide. It is an utterly unique program. One that has no closing ceremony and no final destination. Most importantly, a “Ship of Global Goodwill” offers a chance to shape the world in which we live through a platform for arts and culture that can reach us all.
