We put it into action the other day notifying you all about the four events this month that we need At the end of the day all were happy and tired, to say the least, as a lot of walking took place. I must say the young lads people to help with and we only got one reply. We will have to try something else, I guess! If you did get some ribbing for not being able to keep up to the old boys, LOL. have any suggestions to get YOU involved, please let us know. Speaking of volunteers, we are in DESPERATE need of both a Treasurer (James is leaving the country for a year on a Cheers and Happy Hunting Work Term) and Secretary. If you can find one evening a month and maybe a couple other hours, Please, Please let me know. We also need someone to Chair our Banquet Committee. We still have a month left to try to sell out this year’s Raffle Tickets. Please take a couple books to sell for your Club. See me. Sales are going SLOW. We need your help. The Draw date is December 20th, 2012 at our Christmas Social at the Pioneer House. 1st Prize is a Weekend Getaway for 4 (including four Spa Services) at that which is valued at $750. 2nd Prize is a WestJet Travel Voucher $500. 3rd Prize is a 120 Liter YETI Cooler, Waterproof and Bear Proof, valued at $499.99. 4th Prize is an Infra-Red Cooker (Value $159.99). 5th Prize is Celestron Binoculars 10x50 (Value $94.99). So please help us sell these. They are $5 per ticket with 2000 tickets printed. A special thanks to the local businesses that have them as well. If you get a chance, get in and patronize Roland’s Jewellery, Crystal Glass, Husky Mohawk (down town), Drayden Insurance, and Lubex (across the Highway, now known as Jiffy Lube). It is the money that we make from these fundraisers that enables us to send your kids to Narrow Lake Camp and your wives to BOW camp. We sent two youths and we will always sponsor two youth, but sometimes we have been able to send 4, all it takes is an essay. And while we are talking about camps, Narrow Lake has been doing a Winter Survival Camp that is usually between Christmas and New Year’s, and this camp shows the kids that there is a lot to do in the winter months. But the 2011 camp was only attended by four youth (two from us) and some activities were not carried out (Snowshoeing) due to lack of snow. We have a motion in the books to sponsor THREE YOUTHs to this Winter Camp. It will be first come first serve. Your President (AKA Youth Chair as well) has the application forms. Speaking of Camp, Narrow Lake Conservation Centre was really busy this summer. They had 66 youths at the first camp, 20 women at the first BOW Camp, 63 kids at the second youth camp, and 19 women at the second Bow camp. An awesome summer for Narrow Lake, so let’s get your kids to Winter Survival Camp. We have from our Club, the only Youth Winter Survival Instructor for this camp, and Jason Hinken has been a regular attendance at Narrow Lake, being a Councilor for both camps this summer and helping out with the BOW Camp as well. Our Archery Chair has us shooting out Bows in the School Gym. This is due to a lot of leg work by Justin Kaban, Karl Hauch and Murray LaRonde from the Lamont Club. These three fine gentlemen made arrangements with the

School Board, did a presentation to them, and lo & behold, we started flinging arrows in May until June and then start up again on October 11th and every second week after that (October 25th, November 8th, November 22nd. etc). Kudos to Justin as

well, who applied and received a $3644 Grant from Dow’s Community Involvement Program which we will be using to buy

archery equipment. And this summer, for all you archers, Lamont put on three different 3D Archery shoots. Hope you made it

to at least one of them. I did. MY EXPERIENCE – CINNAMON NELSON Now, if we could just get someone to step forward and fill the Range Chair with as much enthusiasm as Justin has with the

Archery Chair Position. The Range Chair is still very much open. I had a great time at the Outdoor Camp this past July. We learned how to shoot shotguns, pistols, and rifles. Most One hundred and eighty Blue Bird Houses were built at the Legacy Park Bird House Building on June 2nd (see my report in importantly, we also learned the rights and wrongs about hunting, and how to survive in the wilderness in all types of here as well). conditions. Only about 45 people showed up at the Presidents BBQ on June 6th At camp we spent the night in lean-tos that we built on our own and were provided with a certain amount of food to survive . The Family Fun Fishing Weekend on June 15th-17th was held up at Fawcett Lake again (see Grahams Report). And would with for the day. We tried out some archery using a variety of targets. Some of us even got to go up and experience shooting from a tree stand. We learned how to and how to bail yourself out of one if ever you found yourself in that situation. We someone please be interested in taking over this chair. Mr. Morin is retired and is thinking of doing more travelling and fishing outside the Province. also had plenty of free time at the water or to do other sports. The food was great too. Awards were given at the end too for We had two ladies go to the BOW program this summer in July (see their report in this Newsletter). best shooter, and archer for example. As Youth Chairman, I was really disappointed in that I had no entries for the 8th Gopher Tail Contest this summer, although

Andrea and I did some major damage to the local population. The 42nd Annual Andrew Young Memorial Junior Trap Shoot

went well on Sunday, September 9th. Court Shenfield was the winner and he will get a ticket to the Banquet in March (see my

report on that). Conference is coming up in February, and with our membership at 350, we are able to send five Voting Delegates and as

many YOUTH ones as we can handle. They have a Great Youth Program as well as Companion Program, so maybe we will th see you in Red Deer. Early Registration is December 15 , so if you want to go let me know.

Page 17 Page 4 LAND AND CABIN REPORT – DAN ROTH We had an evening work party on May 30th, just prior to the President's Dinner; that was eventually slowed by some Spring rain. We managed to get some lawn cutting, tree clearing and weed whacking done with three people in attendance. We spent the remaining evening indoors dusting the cabin interior as we enjoyed each other’s company. We wrapped up the Fall season with a work party on October 14th with a strong turnout of twelve people. We repaired the shed roof damaged by a fallen tree, brushed/logged and did some lawn cutting, cleaned up the cabin interior and winterized equipment. The woodlot is aging and a lot of the larger poplar trees have fallen by high winds and as a result tree clearing is ongoing. Members, please help yourselves to the wood pile as more wood than we can possibly use is available. The South trail is pretty clogged again with fallen trees since our last clearing effort and we’ll concentrate on a good trail clean up in the future. Come out to the cabin ….. it’s available for all members and their guests to enjoy! If you have never been there before refer to the map attached for its location on Range Road 205A. To drive in you must open the lock at the gate, and members can contact any of the Executive for the combination. Walking in from the gate is also a way to explore the area. Bring your cross country skis or snowshoes when the winter snow arrives!! And don’t forget to bring wieners to cook at the fire pit! Please don’t forget to sign the guest book inside the cabin! Enjoy!!

ARCHERY COMMITTEE – JUSTIN KABAN 43rd Annual Andrew Young Memorial Junior Trap First PlaceThird Winner, Place Winner,Court Shenfield Mark Field After a long wait, the much anticipated archery season has arrived and many archers Second Place Winner, Brady Johnson have already hit the field. Personally I have been chasing elk and mule deer with only memories of 6X6 monarchs bugling at 20 yards with no shot, and hour long stocks through canola fields, only to be busted at 50 yards. With minor disappointment, I am reminded that archery hunting is more than harvesting animals, but spending times in the great outdoors with your family and friends, while experiencing closes heart racing encounters….. in 20 degree weather. Our Club’s archery program has made leaps and bounds in the 2012. With the help of the Lamont Fish and Game Club and many volunteers, we started an indoor archery range at the Bruderheim School Gym. The range was set up every second Thursday from March to June 2012 from 7:00 to 10:00 pm. Our first season was very successful, with a total of 43 participants, of which 23 were youth. To add this, it is all free for our Club members.

This summer, the Lamont Fish and Game Club also put on three excellent 3D fun shoots, with minimal cost to the user. The course was made up of 30+ targets ranging from 10 to 50 yards, concession, competition shoots and draws for prizes were all included. Plans are in place for a few winter 3D shoots so stay tuned and get out shooting. The indoor archery range restarted in the Bruderheim School Gym on Thursday, October 11th, 2012, and will run bi-weekly until June 2013. Due to the excellent turn out during our last season, we will be splitting our youth and adult groups to allow more room for our users. Youth will participate from 7:00-8:30 pm with coaching from our volunteers, and adults from 8:30 to

10:00 pm. I would like to conclude with some excellent news for our

Archery Program. Dow Chemical Canada has awarded our archery program with grant funding through their Community Enhancement 2nd Place Winner, Brady Johnson Program. The Club was very pleased and would like to thank Dow ST Chemical Canada for their support. The funds will be used to 1 Place Winner, Court Shenfield purchase new equipment (backstop netting, arm guards, re-curve

bows, arrows, targets) to improve facilities for our users. If you

have any questions or are interested in helping out, call me (780- 936-6399. Come on out, do a little shooting and share some

stories from the field.
