The project A Kvadrat exhibition to commemorate the 30th anniversary of Divina was held at Salone Internazionale del Mobile in 2014. It comprised pieces upholstered with the iconic textile by 22 leading international artists and designers.

The exhibition featured an assortment of one-of-a-kind works. These reinterpreted Divina in the context of contemporary design – as well as displaying its colour richness and suitability for multiple contexts.

Reflecting this, the works chosen for the exhibition were very diverse. They ranged from shelving, armchairs and workwear to more conceptual pieces, such as Anton Alvarez’s interlocking striped arches.

Painter, graphic artist and textile designer Finn Sködt, who is noted for his instinctive understanding of colour, developed Divina in 1984. First used by Ron Arad in his furniture designs for Moroso, the textile remains a core component of the Kvadrat collection.

Built to British Land’s Sustainability ‘Kvadrat Soft Cells provided us with a Brief for Developments, it incorporates solution that fulfilled every criterion in terms some of the most advanced construction of functionality, acoustic performance techniques and components available. and aesthetics. ’

The glass envelope of the building, combined Simon Hart, Advanced Interior Solutions with the client’s desire for glazed interior par- titions and a technical stone floor, provided the architects with a major acoustic challenge. Introducing an overhead acoustic panelling system was the only way to resolve this.

Solution Large single Soft Cells panels create an acoustic, aesthetically striking and comfort able environment. They enable the architects to introduce continuous LED lighting modules in a very tight configuration, as well as ‘services channels’. These channels facilitate the positioning of all surface-mounted items, such as sprinklers.

Furthermore, Soft Cells’ push latch system enables easy access to the ceiling voids – a crucial benefit, as access hatches were not permitted in the surrounding MF construction ceilings. Grand Theatre Tianjin, China

The idea at the heart of the two-year Architecture/Design renovation was to build a bridge between Reform Living the school’s origins, values and future. Reflecting this, the rooms combine modern Danish furniture with a reference, such as a photo or a specific colour, that links to the building’s past.

Comprising a main building and five villas, the school is spread over a large park-like area. The main building contains half of the students’ rooms and most of the common facilities, such as kitchens and classrooms.

At the school, students live together in pairs distributed in small groups. The cosy feel of the spaces they share is, in part, created by the use of dark wool textiles, dark walls and new wooden floors. Yes, but Rosemarie Trockel

The project In 2006, Museum Ludwig in Cologne presented a retrospective of the works of renowned contemporary artist Rosemarie Trockel. As a part of the exhibition, Trockel created an installation made from raw wool supplied by Kvadrat.

By suspending heavy woollen threads from the ceiling, Trockel created an internal space five metres high and 80 centimetres deep. This maze of threads was interrupted by a series of cut-outs and niches that invited the viewer to enter within.

Wool Parade Doshi Levien

The project The Wool Parade is an installation created by design studio Doshi Levien, which comprises objects upholstered with Kvadrat fabrics. Bold yet playful, it is inspired by the avant- garde parties and architectural theatre costumes of the early Bauhaus period.

The Wool Parade consists of twelve ambiguous and peculiar forms arranged in various compositions. While each has an individual character, when viewed together they are reminiscent of marionettes in a parade.

At first sight, the hollow volumes appear to be abstract geometric elements. However, on moving around the installation, the elements align momentarily in a kind of choreography, offering glimpses of characters in a strange but beguiling space.

These highlighted the suitability of the Kvadrat/Raf Simons textiles for use in fashion contexts.

Raf Simons is frequently inspired by the beauty and passion of youth, as well as by its sense of community. One highlight of the show evoked his experience of being ‘hazed’ at college, which prompted him to recreate the bold, graffiti-scrawled white lab coats of his persecutors. Mark Kenly Domino Tan A/W 2014 collection Copenhagen, Denmark

The project Mark Kenly Domino Tan took ‘materials’ – and their respective textures, colours and shapes – as inspiration for his Autumn/Winter 2014 collection.

The collection portrays a classic silhouette with a ‘higher aesthetic’. It is characterised by a play of illusory nuances. These give the materials different three-dimensional looks and a strong sense of depth.

Strokes of colour that balance a matt palette set the mood of the collection. Silhouettes are slim to emphasise femininity. Bold shapes, which trick the eye, appear to create curious body shapes, adding a touch of humour.

Solution Highfieldis used across the collection. Mark Kenly Domino Tan has also used Kvadrat textiles in his Spring/Summer collections for 2014 and 2015.
