Tordesillas Group of Universities from Brazil, and Spain

• In 2000, the University of founded Tordesillas Group in commemoration of the fifth century of the discovery of Brazil • The Tordesillas Treaty was signed in 1494 by the reigns of Portugal and Castilla. By this Treaty, Portuguese and Castillian established an imaginary line across the territories discovered by both reigns and their respective routes of navigation. • UNESCO declared the Tordesillas Treaty “World Heritage” in the category “Memory of the World” in 2007 Tordesillas Group´s Structure

There are 3 Coordinations: 1) Portuguese Coordination in the 2) Brazilian Coordination in the University of the State of Rio de Janeiro 3) Spanish Coordination in the , which is the Executive Secretary also The Presidence alternates, annually, among the three countries. At present, the Presidence is held by the University Federal Fluminense. AIMS OF THE TORDESILLAS GROUP

• 1) to establish academic, cultural and socio-economic links among its associates. • 2) to promote multilateral coopeation activities in matters of education, science, technology and innovation, by establishing researching nets which enhance mobility of teachers, researches and students. • 3) to adopt measures to overcome impediments which obstruct educational cooperation through the recognition of degrees given by the universities members of the Group. • 4) to pursue fluent communication among its members by identifying their common objectives, aproaches and programmes in education and research. • 5) to enhance the task that universities play in the society and in the enterprise world. • 6) to take advantage of the similarities between our languages: portuguese, spanish and brasileiro. We don´t use translators in our meetings, we just make the effort and it works! Programmes

Apart from our associates fees, we have counted on the financial support of Santander Universidades.

Thanks to them, we have been able to launch the following programmes: 7 Tordesillas Doctoral Schools in different areas: In the frame of postgraduate studies, reseach teams of our universities agree on academic and scientific collaboration Psychology of the organization, coordinated by U. of Sevilla, and integrated by the univesities of Sao Paulo, of Valencia, and Lisbon Universitary Institute. Environmental Sciences and Global Alterations coordinated by the U. of Goiás, and integrated by the universities of Castilla-La Mancha, and Aveiro Organizational Engineering, coordinated by the U. of Valladolid, and integrated by the universities of Lisbon, Unisinos, Porto, Minho, Ponfificia of Rio de Janeiro and Sevilla. Nursing, coordinated by Unirio, with the participation of the universities of Granada, Federal de Pernambuco, Brasilia, Oviedo, Aveiro, Valladolid, Pública de Navarra, Federal Fluminense, Evora, Sao Carlos and Castilla-La Mancha. 7 Tordesillas Doctoral Schools in different areas:

Physics, coordinated by the U. of Sevilla and the participation of Sao Paulo, Münster, Minas Gerais, Lisbon and Granada.

Public Health, coordinated by the U. Miguel Hernández de Elche and integrated by the universities of Porto and Sao Paulo.

Languages, Cultures and Societies, coordinated by U. Presbiterian Mackenzie, and the participation of Minho and Salamanca. MOOC ´s TORDESILLAS Massive On-line Open Courses (Spanish/Portuguese)

1) “Mobile communications on the palm of your hand “, created by U. of Sao Paulo, Carlos III of Madrid and U. of Aveiro. 2) ”Education in Science for Citizens of the XXI Century”, created by U. of Málaga, Lisbon, and Cádiz. 3) “E-Competent Professionals: Keys and Strategies to innovate in the internet” These MOOC´s were chosen among the projects sent by our associates. Several editions of these MOOCS TORDESILLAS had been available for thousand of users TORDESILLAS GROUP + CAROLINA FOUNDATION

Tordesillas Group and Carolina Foundation started their collaboration in 2018.

Together they co-finance a programme of scholarships for Brazilian and Portuguese teachers of universities that belong to the Tordesillas Group who apply for a research stay in Spanish Universities of Tordesillas Group

In 2020 they will launch their third Call of Scholarships TORDESILLAS+CAROLINA ANNUAL MEETINGS

Once a year, alternating among Spain, Portugal and Brazil, we celebrate our ENCOUNTERS OF RECTORS of TORDESILLAS GROUP where we debate on different issues with the active participation of attendees. OUR NEXT EVENT:
