With a career spanning 50 years, the "Godfather of British Blues” has more than 60 albums to his credit, including the all-time classic Bluesbreakers with Eric Clapton, the Grammy-nominated Wake Up Call and Stories, which debuted on the Billboard blues charts at #1. In the early ‘60s, Mayall began putting musicians together in London under the banner of The Bluesbreakers that, over the years, featured a succession of rock greats including Eric Clapton, Mick Taylor of the Rolling Stones and Fleetwood Mac’s Peter Green, John McVie and Mick Fleetwood. In 1969, with his popularity blossoming in the U.S., Mayall released an acoustic live album entitled The Turning Point, from which his song "Room to Move" was destined to become a rock classic and for which he received a Gold record. Attracted by the West Coast climate and culture, he moved to Los Angeles and began forming bands with American musicians. John Mayall was born on the 29th of November 1933 and grew up in a village not too far from Manchester, England. It was here as a teenager that he first became attracted to the jazz and blues 78s in his father's record collection. Initially it was all about guitarists such as Eddie Lang, Lonnie Johnson, Brownie McGhee, Josh White and Leadbelly. However once he heard the sounds of boogie woogie giants Albert Ammons, Pete Johnson and Meade Lux Lewis, his desire to play was all he could think of. At the age of 14 when he went to Manchester's Junior School of Art, he had access to a piano for the first time and he began to learn the basics of this exciting music. He also found time to continue learning the guitar and a couple of years later, the harmonica, inspired by Sonny Terry, Sonny Boy Williamson and Little Walter.

    Even into his eighties, John is still performing — here he is at the 2016 King Living Legend: Biscuit Blues Festival Photo by Ÿ Marilyn Stringer John Mayall The Godfather of British Blues By Mike Shivvers John Mayall told the audience at his Blues Hall of Fame piano in his early teens, the mold was cast. As a teen, John induction ceremony in May 2016 that he would continue to attended junior art school in Manchester, and began to learn perform and make music as long as he was able to do it with piano.
