Carey’s love of cricket began at an early age as she battled away with her brothers in the backyard. She soon left the backyard for her local Kingsgrove Cricket Club, and thrived as the only girl in her teams throughout her junior career. Making her first representative team at age 12, Carey was a star from an early age, going on to represent New South Wales at the under-15 and under-18 level, before making her Women’s National Cricket League debut in 2010 at age 17. After forging a solid career as a domestic cricketer, Carey was twice called into the Australia side but was unable to break into the team, instead having to wait until her third tour to make her long-awaited debut in India in March. Now looking to cement her position in the Australian side, Carey reminisces on her pathway to the highest level and the importance of underage tournaments in her development as a player. 10 PLAYER PATHWAY How did you first get involved in cricket?     Section C C.1 Risk Management and Internal Audit Internal Audit The Directorate’s Audit Committee oversees, on behalf of the Director-General, the Directorate’s governance, risk, compliance and internal control environments, and provides assurance as to their effectiveness. The Committee acts independently of management. The EDD Audit Committee Charter was reviewed and agreed (with only minor amendments) in November 2012. There were no changes to the membership of the Audit Committee during the financial year. Annual and forward audit programs are guided by governance, risk and compliance programs and are supported by an Audit Recommendations Implementation Register. The Directorate’s three-year internal audit program was agreed by the Senior Executive Committee and by the Audit Committee in November 2012, with the program including a balance of compliance and performance audits across the three years. A significant matter of interest for the EDD Audit Committee during this reporting year was the implementation of recommendations identified by the Auditor-General during the 2011-12 financial audit, to improve the control framework in place within the Directorate. By the end of the 2012-13 reporting year the majority of recommendations had been addressed and completed. The Audit Committee specifically congratulated the relevant areas of the Directorate on their work in documenting and improving governance and control processes. Four internal audits were completed during the reporting year, with a further three internal audits undertaken but not yet complete at the end of the year. The internal audits completed and presented to the EDD Audit Committee during the 2012-13 reporting year were: • Follow Up Audit – Territory Venues and Events – November 2012 • Review of credit card usage – May 2013 • Review of the payment of invoices – May 2013 • Review of salary acquittal reports – June 2013 The EDD Audit Committee met on six occasions during 2012-13.

    MEDIA RELEASE Haynes joins new faces in 2011/12 Lend Lease Breakers 1 June 2011 A number of new faces have been named in the Lend Lease Breakers squad for 2011/12, including former Victorian captain, Rachael Haynes. Selectors have chosen a squad of 22 this season. In a change from previous years, players from the Breakers Development squad will now be included in the Lend Lease Breakers squad, giving younger players more opportunity to work alongside seasoned international cricketers like Alex Blackwell, Leah Poulton and Lisa Sthalekar. Also amongst the new faces are teenagers Nicola Carey, Katie Mack and Hannah Trollip, all of whom were part of the NSW team which won the U/18 Female National Championships last summer.

While sporting franchises globally have been hit for an economic six by the pandemic, the Sixers will partner with humm, the market’s bigger interest free buy now, pay later service when WBBL|06 kicks off next Sunday. The Sixers and humm agreed to terms on a three-year deal across both WBBL and BBL teams, predominately as WBBL principal partner. Along with front of shirt branding for the WBBL team, other benefits include signage, digital rights and at-match activations. The Sixers, who are led by skipper Ellyse Perry and feature fellow international superstars Alyssa Healy, Ash Gardner and Dane van Niekerk, won the WBBL02 and 03 titles and have been the glamour team of the world’s premier women’s domestic cricket competition since its inception in 2015/16. Sixers General Manager Jodie Hawkins said the club was delighted to be able begin a new principal partnership, particularly in such a challenging time for the economy. “The Sydney Sixers are one of the country’s premier sporting clubs who pride themselves on being big and bold and we see some great synergies in that regard with humm,” Hawkins said. “Women’s cricket is absolutely thriving off the back of the women’s world cup earlier this year and we saw record numbers of girls signing up to play cricket in September.
