Gannon is an Ipswich Grammar School Old Boy. He began playing cricket as a junior with Ipswich Brothers and Ipswich Grammar School. Gannon made his first-class debut in a Sheffield Shield match against Tasmania in October 2010 and was added as a member of the 2011–2012 Queensland Bulls squad, on a rookie contract. In 2012 he made his Twenty20 debut in 2012 in the KFC Big Bash League but it was the 2013- 14 tournament where Gannon announced himself and became the tournaments leading wicket taker for that season combining pace at the top of the order with slow-ball varieties at the tail of the innings. Gannon’s promising start to his domestic career stalled when he was suspended by Cricket Australia for an illegal bowling action in 2013. Having re-modelled his action and been cleared to return for the 2013- 14 season Gannon had been in and out of the Queensland team until a consistent run in 2019-20 saw him become the Sheffield Shield leading wicket taker for that season.

  • Media Release 13 November 2015
Media Release 13 November 2015 VicHealth announced as first major partner for Melbourne’s two Women’s Big Bash League teams The Melbourne Stars and Melbourne Renegades today (13 November) announced VicHealth as the first major partner for both clubs’ Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) cricket teams ahead of the inaugural season, which begins next month. In a major boost for both clubs, the partnership was created through VicHealth’s Changing the Game: Increasing Female Participation in Sport program which aims to increase the number of women and girls who are physically active, raise the profile of women’s sport in the media and championing the important role women play in sports’ leadership and management. As part of the partnership, the Stars and Renegades will play for the Lanning Elliott Cup at the WBBL derby at the MCG on 2 January 2016. VicHealth CEO Jerril Rechter described the partnership as a major step towards raising the profile of women’s sport and championing the important role women play in decision making and leadership roles. “We want to change attitudes and change the game. Partnering with the Melbourne Stars and the Melbourne Renegades to support the first Women’s Big Bash League season is a major step in ensuring that women’s sport gets the recognition it deserves.” “This has been an amazing year for women’s sport in Australia. We’ve got some of the best female athletes on the planet, and they deserve better recognition. Recent VicHealth research shows that 62 per cent of Victorians think women’s sport should get more coverage in the media.

  • Sydney Sixers to Humm Into WBBL|06 Amidst the Backdrop of the COVID-19 Pandemic Two-Time WBBL Champions, the Sydney Sixers, Have
sydneysixers.com.au | SydneySixers | @SixersBBL @SixersWBBL #smashemsixers | @SixersBBL Sydney Sixers to Humm into WBBL|06 Amidst the backdrop of the COVID-19 pandemic two-time WBBL champions, the Sydney Sixers, have signed a new principal partnership with buy now, pay later fintech humm. While sporting franchises globally have been hit for an economic six by the pandemic, the Sixers will partner with humm, the market’s bigger interest free buy now, pay later service when WBBL|06 kicks off next Sunday. The Sixers and humm agreed to terms on a three-year deal across both WBBL and BBL teams, predominately as WBBL principal partner. Along with front of shirt branding for the WBBL team, other benefits include signage, digital rights and at-match activations. The Sixers, who are led by skipper Ellyse Perry and feature fellow international superstars Alyssa Healy, Ash Gardner and Dane van Niekerk, won the WBBL02 and 03 titles and have been the glamour team of the world’s premier women’s domestic cricket competition since its inception in 2015/16. Sixers General Manager Jodie Hawkins said the club was delighted to be able begin a new principal partnership, particularly in such a challenging time for the economy. “The Sydney Sixers are one of the country’s premier sporting clubs who pride themselves on being big and bold and we see some great synergies in that regard with humm,” Hawkins said. “Women’s cricket is absolutely thriving off the back of the women’s world cup earlier this year and we saw record numbers of girls signing up to play cricket in September.
