  • Section C C.1 Risk Management and Internal Audit
Section C C.1 Risk Management and Internal Audit Internal Audit The Directorate’s Audit Committee oversees, on behalf of the Director-General, the Directorate’s governance, risk, compliance and internal control environments, and provides assurance as to their effectiveness. The Committee acts independently of management. The EDD Audit Committee Charter was reviewed and agreed (with only minor amendments) in November 2012. There were no changes to the membership of the Audit Committee during the financial year. Annual and forward audit programs are guided by governance, risk and compliance programs and are supported by an Audit Recommendations Implementation Register. The Directorate’s three-year internal audit program was agreed by the Senior Executive Committee and by the Audit Committee in November 2012, with the program including a balance of compliance and performance audits across the three years. A significant matter of interest for the EDD Audit Committee during this reporting year was the implementation of recommendations identified by the Auditor-General during the 2011-12 financial audit, to improve the control framework in place within the Directorate. By the end of the 2012-13 reporting year the majority of recommendations had been addressed and completed. The Audit Committee specifically congratulated the relevant areas of the Directorate on their work in documenting and improving governance and control processes. Four internal audits were completed during the reporting year, with a further three internal audits undertaken but not yet complete at the end of the year. The internal audits completed and presented to the EDD Audit Committee during the 2012-13 reporting year were: • Follow Up Audit – Territory Venues and Events – November 2012 • Review of credit card usage – May 2013 • Review of the payment of invoices – May 2013 • Review of salary acquittal reports – June 2013 The EDD Audit Committee met on six occasions during 2012-13.

Submission 004 ‘INQUIRY INTO THE CONTRIBUTION OF SPORT TO INDIGENOUS WELLBEING AND MENTORING’ A SUBMISSION ON BEHALF OF THE DAVID WIRRPANDA FOUNDATION Submitted by Lisa Cunningham (CEO) Catherine Gurney (Grants Manager) Kodie Blay (Operations Manager) David Wirrpanda Foundation PO Box 508 Subiaco WA 6904 (08) 9242 6700 1 1 Submission 004 A MESSAGE FROM OUR DIRECTOR “After years of doing community work, the David Wirrpanda Foundation is a formal way of recognizing the influence sport has on the lives of our children. The Foundation is a dream come true for me. I made my debut with the West Coast Eagles in Round 5 of the 1996 AFL Season, at the age of 16 years, and played in the 2006 premiership team. My first passion isn’t sport however, its community work in helping to improve the lives of young Indigenous Australians. But using sport as a magnet to attract our young Aboriginal people into positive activities to improve their education and wellbeing is an amazing tool that must be utilised. I hope you find this submission of assistance, and agree that sport has a a vastly significant contribution to the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal people”. 2012 NAIDOC Person of the Year David Wirrpanda SUBMISSION SUMMARY - The David Wirrpanda Foundation was born from an idea our Director, David Wirrpanda, had to increase the retention and attendance of Aboriginal children in education. David, a former AFL premiership player, knew first hand how passionate his people were about sport, and how this can be used to attract Aboriginal people to positive programs.

  • Submission of Abc Alumni Limited to Senate Standing Committee on Environment and Communications
1 SUBMISSION OF ABC ALUMNI LIMITED TO SENATE STANDING COMMITTEE ON ENVIRONMENT AND COMMUNICATIONS 13 November 2018 _______________________________________________ INTRODUCTORY STATEMENT ABC Alumni Limited represents a community of former staff and supporters of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation. We campaign for properly funded, high quality, independent, ethical, and free public media in Australia. We promote excellence across all platforms through education, mentoring, public forums and scholarships. The selection of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation’s Board and Managing Director must be free of political favouritism. Funding for the ABC must be guaranteed. We welcome this inquiry into ‘allegations of political interference in the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC)’. It is vitally important that the Senate committee establishes the detail; the who, what, where and, most importantly, why of Managing Director Michelle Guthrie’s dismissal and Board Chair Justin Milne’s subsequent resignation. We are alarmed by the widely publicised allegations made by Ms Guthrie about the conduct of Mr Milne (and any possible complicity by Board directors; for example, was there a failure to act on the allegations when presented with them?). Ms Guthrie’s allegations if true, in whole or in part, clearly indicate that the current legislation and Chair/Board appointment processes fail to protect the ABC from overt and covert political interference. This makes the corporation vulnerable to punitive funding cuts that affect its ability to continue to provide the range and quality of fearless, independent broadcasting and online publishing for which it is known. These issues are fundamental to the important contribution the ABC makes to Australian society. In our view there is a need for amendments to the ABC Act and for changes to existing processes for the appointment of the Chair and Board directors.

  • British Asians and the Myths of Yorkshire Cricket.I
View metadata, citation and similar papers at core.ac.uk brought to you by CORE provided by Leeds Beckett Repository “All Yorkshiremen are from Yorkshire, but some are more ‘Yorkshire’ than Others”: British Asians and the myths of Yorkshire cricket.i This paper explores the contemporary relationship between Yorkshire cricket and South Asian communities through oral testimonies with white and British Asian cricketers within the region. The paper documents how the myths and invented traditions surrounding Yorkshire as an insular county have extended to all levels of Yorkshire cricket culture. Evidence is presented to argue that, despite the growing representation of British Asians within the Yorkshire leagues and within the structure of Yorkshire County Cricket Club, cultural and institutionalised forms of racism continue to be intrinsic to the sport. The paper presents evidence to suggest that, regardless of being committed to Yorkshire and their ‘Yorkshireness’, white Yorkshire people may never fully accept British Asians as ‘one of us’. Finally, Yorkshire cricket’s (alleged) commitment to ‘colour-blindness’ is deconstructed by presenting evidence that British Asians continue to feel marginalised by, and on the fringe of, mainstream cricket culture in Yorkshire. Yorkshire and Yorkshire cricket: An introduction There exists in England a curious cult of Northern-ness, sort of Northern snobbishness. A Yorkshireman in the South will always take care to let you know that he regards you as an inferior … the North is inhabited by 'real' people … The Northerner has 'grit', he is grim, 'dour', plucky, warm-hearted, and democratic; the Southerner is snobbish, effeminate, and lazy - that at any rate is the theory.
